My real mom (not Chris’ mom who I always blog about) was acting strange last Friday, and asking for money to pay her electric bill after I just handed over money to cover it days before… Since I’m her power of attorney, a pawn shop called and said she was pawning lots of her items, but when I called her back she didn’t answer. I continued to call until Sunday night and called the police to check on her but they couldn’t enter her home legally without a landlord’s permission. I finally got in touch with him on Tuesday morning, and had him open her front door. I thought she was probably away with friends, or didn’t pay her phone bill this month, but instead I found her slumped in her chair holding the phone, breathing shallowly.
She’s been in ICU since, and nothing is improving. The doctor told me she overdosed on pain pills and meth and I just didn’t find her in time. She has pneumonia, inhaling vomit, an infection in her lungs, failing kidnies, and brain swelling from lack of oxygen. At first, they said she was improving, but a CAT scan later, they weren’t so sure. After talking to the neurologist, he said that he is certain she’s either brain dead or suffered massive damage to the brain, but we can only wait to see when the swelling goes down. Right now, she’s comatose, unresponsive, and on life support. Chances are, she’s completely gone.
This is a hard time for me, but I’m hanging on, so don’t be afraid to talk to me like normal. I said if her heart fails for any reason, do not resuscitate, but I’m not making any decisions until I’m positive she’s not there at all.
