I'm pleased to announce a new short story in my Naptown Tales series, My First Thanksgiving. Escaping with little more than the clothes on their backs, young Altef and his ammi flee oppression back home to seek a better life for themselves in America. Faced with immersion in a new and strange culture, Altef befriends a young man whom he things to be a fellow Muslim, but he soon discovers that Randy Bernstein is in fact Jewish. Confronted with issues of his own acceptance, he learns to open his mind and, as the American holiday of Thanksgiving approaches, learns he has much to be thankful for.
