Just checking something. I posted this in 'author's lounge' and wasn't sure if it was the right place or not. Thought I'd try it over here.

Can anyone post in eFiction, even if you're hosted/shared hosting?

In theory, yes, but if you're a hosted/shared author, I think the expectation is that you would post on your own pages. If you want to post in eFiction as well, I would suggest including a link back to your own page to try to direct people to where your stories are located.

Thanks for the advice. There is an expectation to post on your own page, but personally, for shared members, we're not as well known and eFiction is a great place because it might be more frequented by new readers, or at least is kinda in your face to the reader, so to speak.

Including a link back to my page is a good idea. I was definitely thinking of doing that, so readers can be directed where to go in the future.

Well, I guess if there's a problem with me posting there, someone would let me know. I wanted to PM someone to ask, but I don't know who. Or perhaps I'm overthinking this, like everything else biggrin.gif

Thanks again.

For things like this, I would suggest PM'ing the Writer Support Team -- the lead is C James and Talonrider is the deputy lead. But I can see why you want to post in eFiction as well as your own page. I'll leave it up to the others if they want to weigh in with any recommendations. I'm not involved in that part of the site, so the views above are my own personal ones, and are not in any way an official position biggrin.gif

There are a lot of Hosted Authors and Shared Hosted authors that have their stories on eFiction. Most of them aren't posting updates when they have them though, but, they are still there. I personally don't see a problem with it as I think to be Hosted and Shared you have to have an already existing fan-base to participate in the forums. The quickest ways to get a fan-base here at GA is to post stories to eFiction or Nifty.. and there is no guarantee Nifty readers will come to GA and participate, but since eFiction is already affiliated with GA then there is a better chance a few fans will participate in Author forums and the discussion of a story an author wants feedback on.

Thanks. I will check with C James.

I think the reason I'm so unsure is that once hosted/shared authors got their own personal sites, they perhaps stopped posting on efiction? Which is why I haven't seen a precedence for it, and why I'm asking about it. I guess I assumed the general rule was once you had your own page, you'd go there instead of remaining on eFiction, so other authors who don't have a site has that area for themselves, you know?

And like you said, eFiction is a much better source than nifty, because Nifty readers never follow the link back here. But since eFiction is already on GA, it's easier or more convenient for them to discuss the story or get involved, and so forth. I think posting on eFiction from the start would have been a better idea. You're one smart girl, Krista, for coming back on eFiction and starting from there biggrin.gif
Maybe I should take your lead and do it in the right order.

Either way, thanks for the advice and info.
