Congrats on # 3,000 Bk

Keep on posting

3,000? I feel like it was just yesterday he was at 2,000. Wait, maybe it was! laugh.gif Great to have you around BK.

I may be viewed as a voice of dissent, but I do happen to think it appropriate to save such a thread for when the member actually reaches the milestone.
GaryK
I think he's gone to sleep. No doubt he'll hit the 3,000 mark tomorrow even though it'll still be today here. So I wrote one of my Took a Walk Garykus. I didn't actually go for a real walk. But I did come up with it while walking around the house.

I took a walk
Thought about BK and Beastie
What a great pair
I like BK more though
Tiff
LOL!

Everyone loves the Beast, although he's more like a little puppy! biggrin.gif

Almost 3000, already!?! Wow, where has the time gone! He probably is sleeping and thus that is why he has not reached that milestone quite yet. By tomorrow morning he would have reached it and we can all whip out the balloons, cake, and drinks to celebrate. Or just post in the forum thread!

CONGRATS! I love your posts- they're funny and nice and encouraging and always leaves me feeling good.

It's 4:00 AM in Chandigarh and his mother insists he wake up at 9:00 AM regardless of how late he stayed up. He said good-night in our semi-private thread so I know he's asleep right now. He has the cutest smiley he posts when he's headed off to bed.

I decided to just be in advance for bk because a) He's fast when posting and cool.gif I wanted it to be special for him and I said

"Now here's your spot to make that post number 3000...goof around, say thanks or start a topic it's yours to decide"
so itt's not a thread to congratulate him per se just a place for him to post no 3000...

C'mon guys,, This was supposed to be a surprise to BK,, alright,, this shows that people will simply post anywhere to boost their post count without *even* look at what the thread is about!!!!!! if you read the first message,, the original one, it says it's for Beaskid and for him to chose what he want do to with his congratulatory thread!!!!!

and rapidly 2 members got it to just chit chat, Have some restrain before posting,, remember the general posting rules,, one of them is to not to use the forum as an IM, it's not and IM program and it's not a chat room. When it becomes a back and forth between 2 people,,, it's a chat,,, and guys keep on topic!!!

QUOTE

It wasn't that and that was way out of topic, ,,, (gary sorry, I'm not aiming specially at you,, it's just an example)

Jason had "promised" to a good friend of everyone here a surprise for his 3k post and now everything is ruined because of the act of a minority. He took some time to word it nicely he even made an haiku just in his honor, ruined! The worst is that, this kind of behavior will most likely happens again and it will be another just as good thread that will become a waist!!! guys have some self control!!!! I hope that you guys feel at least a little bad.

doesn't matter babe... they'll just goof around again...

That's what the action of 2-3 people made to the moral of one guy!! And I'm sure that those kind of feeling has been felt by others. Posting 1,000 in 2-4 months doesn't mean that you're better than the one that will take years to do it.. it might be the sign of a problem,,, writing too many post that doesn't have it's raison-d'être, along with the legitimate ones

again read the rules the forum is not to be used as a chatting room,,, Everyone should think before posting,, think about is this relevant to the thread will it bring something to it,,,
GaryK
The accepted practice here is to create a congratulatory thread AFTER the person has reached a certain milestone.

It was wrong to create a thread just to provide someone with a chance to boost their post count to a point where they reached a certain level.

And it was even more wrong to then blame us for doing exactly what you did in the first place.

Get over it!

gary the thread was about honoring the 3k post of BK,,, it was for him to write and post his 3,000th post in it,,, and decide what to do with the thread,,

Actually the accepted practice,, it to create the congratulatory thread when he's about to,,, for instance CJ started mine 2 posts before I did it. that's one example, and if you look back, I remember that it's was the same thing for others. Only when you'll start following the guidelines will you be able to talk about accepted practice,, it's not accepted to post completely off topic messages or to write posts that disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the discussion away from the focus of the forum.

to provide a chance to boost their post count? Gary! please, as I said it was for him to post his 3000 post,, and start his festivities,,
talking about boost their post count,, How many post did you made in the thread before this one???? How many were IM like ones???? when you write 4 posts in less than an hour in a thread, almost any thread, you can ask yourself if what you write is appropriate

If you notice I'm not posting at a 22 per day average (of course I'll agree that not all of them are senseless),, I'm not saying that It was good for me to do it from time to time,, but I realize that a forum is not a free-for-all place,,, and NEVER have I took a thread and steered it away,,, only once had I have a day with more than 50 post,, And it was a special set of circumstance and since then, I've always made sure that my post weren't IMs

Get over it??? Even the mods thought it was good to remember the etiquette of the forum! The guidelines are good for everyone, you and me included!

here was the original post and see if it was that wrong especially for someone like BK... who's really appreciated around here...

Hey BeastKid close to 3000 heh? . Gosh 3000!!! Your posts have always been insightful , funny, smart and always ready to help out or give good advice... and I won't even start on your authors skills. Still 3000 posts means that the person showed a great deal of implication for quite some time now...

So what I wanna say is, We can only hope that you'll stay with us for as long as possible and I hope we will see you reach the 5 000 mark! You are one of the keystone of GA... without you it wouldn't be the same....

Now here's your spot to make that post number 3000...goof around, say thanks or start a topic it's yours to decide

and here's a haiiku for you

three thousands posting
smart, funny, a friendly ear

Maybe that's what CJ does. In looking back at milestone threads it seems like they only happen after someone has reached that milestone. So that's why I concluded the custom here was to wait until someone reached a milestone before starting a thread about it.

As for my posts in the thread. I made one post congratulating BK even though I disagreed with the premise of this thread. I made one comment to Tiff to let her know BK was probably asleep. It was only after I made one joking reference about this thread being a good way to increase post count, which was followed by a comment from Tim that the thread was moved to a new forum.

I am not overly concerned with my post count. I just happen to post a lot. Most of my posts are not of IM quality, and they are usually on-topic even if I make an off-topic comment or two in the process. Based on where I've seen you posting you don't get to see the longer posts I make. You've only seen my short comments which were appropriate in threads like "getting caught".

Maybe my "get over it" comment was inappropriate. If so I apologize. I was a bit upset about what seemed like accusations that I somehow sabotaged this thread.

The regular thread will be ready for opening soon. He's at like 2,994 or something like that. I'm sure by the time I wake up in the morning it will already be there. wink.gif Anyway, it is a huge milestone, one I will probably not reach for a while. cool.gif

This thread was moved to the games forum because it looked like, in essence, a thread about posting. Millennium threads are one thing, but there have been multiple member complaints about the lounge being swamped with discussions of post counts. I am certainly a past culprit on that, and did not realize the problems I was causing.

I agreed with it being moved. I said from the beginning that it was too soon. As it is, I'm sure BK will be posting his 3000th post while I'm sleeping. tongue.gif As for me, I should hope people will not jump the gun and post a similar thread for me, because it may be a few days. I am not posting as much as I normally do, so it may take a while! tongue.gif

The thread did seem to become one of them after being highjacked just like any other thread in the entire forum would be. If you look to the original set up,, it was to be a thread for BK to post his 3K post then comes the congratulations,,,,
One could also say that, all the millennium thread becomes after one day a "discussions post count", just as much as, often, the celebrate anything thread,,,Therefore shouldn't all of those gets moved in the game and humor or get a special place for those since it's not really a game nor humor....

Well, tiger,,, when this thread was originally posted,, bk was still posting and was closing in rapidly on the 3k,,, it wouldn't be the first time that we start the celebration thread when the member gets close to it.

I'm happy that we get to agree on something Sacha. Not that disagreements are always bad. It would be a boring world if everyone always agreed with everyone else.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think post count is highly overrated. It should be about quality, not quantity.

Putting milestone posts in a forum like Games and Humor would be a good way to drive home the point that post counts should not be taken as seriously as the content of a member's posts.

ADDED: Oops. I didn't notice CJ's comments at first. I'm glad you're giving this some serious consideration CJ. Thanks.
