Wow, what a great chapter Steve

.
It was neat to see Joe, with the help of a beer or seven, realize to himself that though Cody is very mixed up, he really wants to hold him and make everything better (IMHO). Joe realizes that things are on the down slide with Julia, and doesn't really seem too concerned about it. I wonder how much of Joe's feelings are just that, Cody needs him and he would be willing to do anything to show that. But is that to be confused with wanting to 'be' with Cody.
My heart does go out to Cody though. It seems to be every time he is feeling good about something, which he did on a few occasions this time, something is right there to remind him that he shouldn't feel good. His thoughts of possibly getting the unreachable, Joe, came crashing down when he saw the letter on Joe's dresser.
What I think really showed how much hurt, how insecure, how lonely Cody is was summed up in his last statement:
QUOTE
"Can't you talk to your friends?" Dr. Jimenez asked as his brow furrowed in confusion.
"About football, yeah, the weather, sure," Cody answered. "Even girls, just… just not this… I have to smile for them. I can't give them a reason to go away."
So Joe recognizes Cody's ability to do everything to please others, yet he doesn't know that he is doing it cause Cody is so afraid of losing everything that he has. Pretty powerful.
Well, that is at least the way that I saw it

Once again your writing is amazing. Unfortunately he makes me want more, like right away
