Hey guys, I've noticed on here that avatars don't really change and it lead me to two questions:
1. What does your avatar mean
2. Why did you choose it to represent you?

My avatar is of a digital hooded figure, probably representing digital death. I think it best represents how I, like the hooded figure, belong to the digital open-source underground and hope for the death of closed source systems (down with Microsoft!)

now its your turn! what does yours mean? give GA members a little more insight to you!

1. My avatar is a tiger, one of my favorite creatures and also my screen name. 2. I chose it because I am fond of tigers as they are magnificent creatures, powerful ambush predators who can take down animals twice their size. They're also beautiful and majestic. I like to think I have some of their attributes as well.

My avatar is a picture of a t-shirt for the roller coaster The Talon. It shows a set of talons about to grab something. I'd use a photo of the sign, but it would have to be cropped too much to fit.

Mine is Rodolfo Chikilicuatre, a Eurovision 2008 Participant for Spain and the reason is that he represent foreign things to be seen and enjoyed and that's what I am, a unique and foreign-born (I'm born in Germany but as an naturalized American citizen) which to be seen and enjoyed by my boyfriend, Robbie.

And no, I'm not Hispanic, I'm white

I picked my avatar on a whim out of the general icons the board provides. It's a pokemon, Abra if I remember correctly.

hmm, I really should respond in this thread like I did the username thread. Let's just say that the avatar comes from the same thing that the "Dr. Mr." comes from and really is best unsaid. As I said there, those that know, know why. Let it suffice that I like penguins.

I don't even know what manga or anime this pic is from, or who these characters are. I just thought it was hot.

My avatar is an artist's rendering of a wind farm proposed for construction in the California desert. My major in college is Mechanical Engineering and the field I want to get into is alternative energy -- be it solar, fuel cell, wind, whatever, I love it!

Its self-explanatory really.

So mine, well first off it's really my second avatar. Actually, technically speaking it's my 3rd or 4th (can't remember which for sure, but I know I had at least one other early one, but I didn't have it/them very long). My other main one was of course the pirate avatar that I had for around two years. There aren't many 'pirates' left on the site nowadays, but there were quite a few at one point!

I finally just decided it was time for an update several months ago. I picked it because I thought it suited my personality. Mostly it looks like the avatar guy is laid back and peaceful (at least that's the vibe I get from it), but also 'fun', friendly, and out-going. I feel like I have those qualities most of the time. Plus I thought the avatar was cute and roughly matched my looks: dirty blond/ash hair - I've been going for a more subdued colour recently - fairly light skin tone, and most notably an odd necklace/pendant around his neck. I'm known for wearing odd things like that around my neck and usually over an exposed collarbone/upper chest like the avatar. So I feel like it suits my style pretty well.

Ummm...well it is still on GA but I made it private when I moved down here for med school. Admins can see it but that is it. I'm not sure if I will ever bring it back but I have more than enough pics of me on GA either on my profile or in my blog.

My avatar is a picture of my Munki taking down dictation.

He's a bit old-fashioned (hence the quill pen) and not very fast, but sometimes it's useful to have him taking notes when I don't feel like working on a keyboard.

Mine is a skeleton. I actually like that pic. Mostly, because my relatives call me skinny, while I rather prefer athletic.

My avatar remembers me of a dreamland. It’s a picture taken by my daughter, the last time we went on holidays together, a few years ago. It was in “La Martinique”. She was already very ill (AIDS) and these days were like a calm, sunny day between two storms and worries. I will put some other pictures in my gallery. She would be 50 now. I know she RIP.

Mine is an example of a graphic I did utilizing a mathematical-based visualization for my media player. I do a lot of graphic arts as a hobby and it was one I was pleased with. No real in-depth reason for it.

mine is a pic of my best buddy .. my beloved cat.. well actually he is not mine, I am his slave, and he has trained me well to open the cans and rub his belly whenever he feels like. Lol. Well, i love to have him around, and I believe he loves me as well

His High Lord Anubis brought to the cyber age. I choose my avatar because I have always been fascinated by the old gods and Anubis is one of them that I really admire.

In the beginning he was considered to be the God of the Underworld, till his position was “given” to Osiris. He seems to a very busy god, he watches over the mummification process and then releases the “soul” of an individual into the afterlife. From here he guides the souls to be judged (which he does by weighing the heart of an individual against the feather of truth).

I feel like such an idiot! I knew you had a monkey, and I figured that's why you had the pic, but it didn't occur to me it was an actual pic of your monkey.

Ahh, the water polo picture...It's my favourite too. Your arm is all stretched out reaching for the ball triumphently over your opponent, your abs are all tight .

My avatar was a BoyNeedsTherapy pirate special. Back in the day, Ben made a bunch of them for several GA members trying to tailor them to our physical features and they were all the rage. Sadly, I think Nate & I are the only ones still using them.

Unlike what he believes, it's not a self portrait. It's a cropped image of an echidna I took a photo of while at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary in Melbourne. It's a great place to take foreign tourists, because it is practically only Australian native animals (unlike Melbourne Zoo which has a lot of overseas animals, too, like lions, tigers, polar bears, etc).

I used to have an emu avatar, taken at Australia Zoo in Queensland (the one started by Steve Irwin), but I changed to this one a couple of years ago. Since then, CJ has assumed I'll use those spines on anyone who posts a spoiler for a story I'm reading, so I've decided to keep it. I was very tempted last year to change it to another echidna photo I've got, but it's not as good. The only reason I considered it was that it was St. Patrick's Day and the echidna in question was green (it has just come out of an algae filled dam).

If you check out my profile, you'll see a picture of a brolga, also from Australia Zoo. And my story home page photo is a King Parrot which I photographed at the same place. What can I say? I like taking photos of Australian wildlife. Unfortunately, the local kangaroos are a bit skittish. They run away too fast for me to get a good photo of them....

My avatar. Pretty simple. I like playing 'Go'. Its a popular game especially in China, Japan, and Korea. Its like chess. The particular game in my avatar is a game played by Honinbo Shusaku (one of the most famous Go players of all time).

Edit: Ah sorry. It's Heero. Maybe it was the way the hair was going which confused me. I was going to say Heero, then I saw the hairstyle and said Duo instead. Heero is awesome xD

I tried my hand at 'Go' a few months ago! I didn't really like it though. I think I had a different set of expectations about the game and I didn't care for the rules. I also didn't have much natural talent at it

Ah. Well its too bad you didn't like it. It's a fun game once you get the basics down. There aren't that many rules as such, but it all depends on how you use the rules to play that makes this game interesting for me. Im not the best at this game though. Im still in the 13-15 kyu rank stage and I've been playing for about a year or so. Granted I think my rank came down since I haven't been able to play for a while due to real life intruding. xD

My avatar is getting old. I should really think about getting another one now. The other one was of a blue flower and the rain one is only because I thought it looked pretty, no real reason behind it I guess. I haven't found that perfect one that fit my personality yet, but I'll keep looking.

Okay, my avatar is because I used to go by Faery's Delight as a pen name. I still use it for my AFF.net account. That and I like the flowers. Reminds me of my grandmother roses fav pic that I can't seem to find.

Beast from the X-men was a favorite of mine from my miss spent youth. I identified with him: BIG and DANGEROUS but intelligent and gentle. Qualities that I try to have but find them increasingly elusive.

Over time the avatar has become something of an enigma: am I the man that became a beast or a beast that became a man? I dunno anymore. Only time will tell.

Will I ever find the Beauty that can tame my rage? I doubt it. I wouldn't want someone I care about that close to the flame.

He's among my favorites as well James. I tend to like attributes of both man and beast. As for your rage, I hope you do find someone who can take you at least a little.
