It's not uncommon to have a dream about someone you're attracted to. It's happened to me more than once. It can be a good dream or a bad dream. We often do not understand why we have the dreams we have, but it's often something from our conscious minds manifesting in our subconscious minds. If you're a loon, we all are. lmaosmiley.gif

Awww sad.gif

Well it definitely sounds like a manifestation of your thoughts and fears. It doesn't sound odd at all since you've undoubtedly considered telling him in the past and naturally considered his array of possible reactions.

Dreams should be treated as just that - dreams.

A loon is a type of bird. Like the cuckoo and the dodo people use it to mean someone who is crazy or dim-witted (birds aren't held in particularly high esteem are they? laugh.gif ).

It's interesting because "loon" is similar in sound and meaning (but completely different in origin) to 'lunatic' which would also refer to someone who is crazy. As you may be aware "lunatic" and "lunacy" derive their names and meaning from the moon (lunar) which was thought to control people's minds and moods and make them crazy sometimes (full-moon business and all that). The word "ludicrous" is, I believe, another relative and also means absurd, ridiculous, or essentially crazy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "loon" is British slang. I could be wrong though... I've always heard it in British films and seen in it British books, not American ones.

If anyone is to be called a loon for his dreams it's me. The earliest dream that I can still remember vividly is one in which my mom and Batman swapped cars. So my mom was in the Batmobile and Batman was in our old 198x GMC Vandura Starcraft conversion van, dubbed "Big Blue" (yes, it was a navy blue and I loved that thing).

I've had two odd dreams about some I like recently. Despite them being odd (Anyone know the flight record for Shell Airlines? lol!) I'm glad I had them since they didn't turn out bad at all. I'm sorry you had that dream but I agree with what has been said regarding it being a manifestation of something that has been on your mind. Often times we dream of something that we've been thinking about. For me, it's entirely unrealistic (again, Shell Oil does not offer an Airline service, lol). For everyone else, dreams seem very real.

Oh and I'm very aware of that half-sleep state that you're talking about. It happens to me all the time and I think the lights on my VCR and home theater system are something else, and continue thinking so until I wake up... which usually takes several minutes.

Watch what you say about birds, Kevin. Or this bird of prey just may pay you visit. devilsmiley.gif

And speaking of dreams, I had a dream last night that I had a couple of years ago. It was just as strange as it was the first time. The main character in the dream was an author friend of mine that I've met.

You're definitely correct that it seems more a part of British parlance than American. However, I think most Americans could figure out what it meant. In any case, Old Bob didn't ask me that laugh.gif

Also, we do use the adjective version "loony" - I. E. like a loon.

While we're sharing dreams, I had an interesting one recently. I dreamt that I was giving a lecture to my Sunday school class on the book of Revelation. Unfortunately, I went off on a very long tangent about the apocalypse and everyone became quite bored.

Sounds like the preacher who dreamed he was delivering a long, boring sermon. And when he woke up, he really was.

I've been kinda lurking in this thread to see what people say about dreams, and so far it's been a neat topic. I, for one, find that dreams are usually what bothers us or is on our minds the most (subconsciously that is). I mean if we're worried about coming out to our parents, we could have a dream in which it goes horribly. Or if theres that certain guy on your mind, you could have a dream of wedding bells and such.

Many cultures look for different symbols in dreams to tell what the future is and many psychologists say that dream symbols can tell us what bothers us, good or bad, the most.

Of course this is what I have to think before i've had my coffee and can barely formulate a decent thought. Off to get coffee!
