I loved the way you described everything in the first chapter, especially the part where he sort of dies and comes back. And the wolf ogling.

Chapter 3 was great and you left us with a cliffhanger there. I wonder what happens next.

thanks for that. gonna have to wait a while before I post anything new. I'm in the proccess of editing and re-posting everything. Haha no matter how many times to you go over something you can always comeback and find more mistakes. Plus I'm making the story look a little better. Ch1 has been re-edited and new contact info has been added to the text.

Still hoping for a little feedback from some of the more experienced authors.

Hello all!

I just read chapters 1-4 of A Cursed Life. I really enjoyed them. I can also say that while even from the very first chapter I enjoyed the story, I found each successive chapter to be more and more exciting and satisfying. I don't know if this is because you got more "into your character's heads" with time, or if, more likely, it's because the groundwork had already been laid and the action in the story could push ahead full-steam.

It seems as though Empathy has other themes and agendas running through the story, besides just the obvious narrative.

It's heavily laden with history, and seems educational on one level.

It's also steeped with philosophical concepts. There's the pondering about the way most people waste their time with things that don't matter. The celebration of learning and knowledge. The corporeal appeal that comes through hightened (better attuned?) senses. The celebration of a certain type of freedom (immortality) that can only be won by sacrifice (to never again feel the sun for example). Then on more obvious levels there's the value of family, and the importance of patience (IMO embodied by Xanthia) as a means to win out over anger/impulsiveness (embodied by Amon and the way even his aggression yielded to Xanthia's calm patience).

There's also the irony that Devon's family was slaughtered by vampire who then became his foster family only to be slaughtered by...vampires.

On the other hand perhaps I'm simply reading too much into this story. One thing's for certain though, the fact that I'm able to have so many things grasp at is indicative of a well thought out, complicated story. Excellent job, Empathy, I eagerly await the next installment.

Wow Kev, thanks for the comments, seriously I think with the way you look at stories you should be an editor or at least a beta reader.

Very good story Empathy. You've taken me where no other Vampire story has, an indepth look into the life, or death, of a vampire. You didn't stop with the beginning of his new life. You take us back and forth thru his existence.

I await the next installment.

I started reading this story last night and I couldn't get away from it. I had to force myself to leave my computer as it was already 2 in the morning haha.. and I was late for my first class..

BUT.. all worth it.

You must really enjoy writing this story, or maybe it just feels like that to me from reading it. The history you build behind each scene makes everything seem so vivid in my mind. My only complaint, and I do mean 'ONLY' would be the format in which chapters 2 through 4 are in. From what I have read, that will soon be fixed, so it's a nonissue.

The thought that this Devon was left alone with so many unanswered questions just eats me up! (well... because I want to know too!)

I'm addicted to vampire literature, always have been, and you have written a very intriguing story here that has taken a spin on things that I haven't read in the past.

I cannot WAIT to read the next chapter.

Yes ACL gets most of my attention story wise, I enjoy writing all of them but ACL is special to me. I too really enjoy vampire stories and wanted to write something myself that is a bit different than other vampire stories, for better or worse I suppose. haha. I agree, i don't like the format of the stories and I just had ch.1 changed and I think I will do the same with the other before I post pt5 (which is completed)

"It's been a while" doesn't even sum it up anymore. My apologizes, and many thanks to those readers who are hanging on and still following this story. As someone who reads stories on the net as well I know how frustrating it can be to get into a story and have it not be updated for weeks at a time. If you’re new to the story you’re just in time. I have several chapters all lined up and ready to go just a few tweaks here and there left.

With all that said, I’ll be dropping A Cursed Life 6 – Revelations and A Cursed Life 7- Last Words on you guys. 2 chapters, back to back!! 11,500+ words, over 100 paragraphs. Not a huge achievement but to go from not updating for two months to two consecutive updates is something that I like. And I haven’t forgotten about all the Bad Seed readers. Can’t thank you guys enough for all the e-mails and PMs about Bad Seed, it’s just getting started and the support is much appreciated. Be sure to e-mail me about the new chapters, want to here from you guys.

YAY, awesome job, Devin! That was a very intriguing chapter and we're finally starting to sort out why Amon is viewed as so evil. It also seemed to set the stage for many of the major issues Devon is going to have to resolve! Way to go! I'm looking forward to reading the next one

So ch. 7 went up a few days ago, and I'm putting the finishing touches on ch.8. Oh man, i'm really excited about this next chapter. A lot of history is going to be told and it's going to tie up a lot of loose ends and explain a lot.
