So we have the stage set.  Bacchante is carrying Maidstone and Bertie's toxic letters back to England.  Santa Clarita is trying to catch up to him, while Granger is taking the overland route through Egypt.  So I'm curious as to which one of these ships/people will get home first and last?

I chose Calvert to get back first and Granger to get back last.   It just seems that George's luck has been perverse of late and I expect that to continue.   Calvert's ship was the last to make it to Amboyna and in the twists of fate I suspect he will arrive back to jolly old England first.

Of course my predictions are entirely a guess and I suspect that Mark has this all worked out already in his own inimitable style.

Since it is your story and you didn't mention Morningtons' messenger dispatched to Aleppo, he is out of it.

Due to the Somer Monkey Wrench, Bacchante will be delayed. Allowing Santa Clarita to intercept, then reaching home first with Bacchante sailing in concert. Granger, due to your time frame will probably get involved with Nelsons' Battle, thus arriving home last.

Note: I probably have it all wrong (usually do), time and the next few chapters will tell.

Well hard to guess what evil and twisted words will come tumbling out of Mark's devious mind.  I am guessing that we will have to wait and see what he has in store for us.

My guess is that Lord Granger will get in position to intercept (thanks to Sommers good sense to slow the leaders down), but get caught up in the battle and prevent Granger from catching up to Maidstone and having to kill him.

With Sommers wise advice to Fitzwilliam hopefully Calvert will save the day.

I do, since they are a font of fun and I'm such a jolly person. Although, your choices could use a bit of work as they are bland and don't mention squirrels at all. Or an appearance of the Kraken. It is a seafaring story after all.

I'm sure Mark decided not to mention squirrels only out of fear for his nuts :)

There appears to be a ground swell building of the opinion that Granger will win. Inspite of having to first Mata Hari his way through Egypt. Through the French army, then the French navy, meet up with Nelson and join the fight. Get a ship and catch up to or beat Maidstone home, who does have a two month lead. Wishful thinking?

Speaking of nuts. Have you heard about deer nuts? They are inexpensive, under a buck.

I'm guessing that this will end up in a way none of you suspect.

Before you get too creative Mark Arbour, I do recall a certain April Fools stunt that forced a heart to heart with one of your CAP characters. Imagine how scary a heart to heart with someone with a peerage can be? :pinch:

I am thinking your last comment put an abrupt end to this poll.

I have only one (really left field) thought. Bacchante becalmed in deep water, surrounded by a fleet of fifty xebecs. The end of Maidstone (and the letters) along with the loss of many of our beloved characters, the ship a Arab prize.

There's an idea.  Only Bacchante probably won't be in the Mediterranean (with xebecs).

Ok, I screwed up with the xebecs. In all of the Middle East there had to be some pirates, most likely muslim, due to the region, that had craft (not xebecs) of some sort (I know, I'm beating a dead horse).

Since my last there was one vote, so I guess my report of its' demise was a tad premature (but fading fast).

Of course, the direction Bacchante is going, there will be privateers, French and Spanish navy and heavily armed and escorted Spanish convoys.....  the number of aristocratic and important people on the ship would be a great coup in a capture scenario....

That is true, but as Bacchante is a fast ship, and Humphreys is a good seaman,  I think her chances of making it past a French or Spanish force are fairly good.

Mark, I think this one comment of yours, put the kibosh to this poll. however I still think Calvert will get back first.

Of the Named three choices you gave us, the Bacchante: H & M, should no longer count as you killed them off and destroyed the ship.

It would seem to me that Santa Clarita: Calvert are destined to arrive first. While Granger through no fault of his own  (except that he chose to stay with Nelson) will get home last. This means that I and those who voted with me, win. YAY!
