Fourteen chapters into the story and just realized that I've never started a topic for my Wednesday Brief story "Thwarted".  So, decided that maybe it was time.  This way, the readers can actually discuss the story amongst themselves, if they'd like.

The chapters for this story are extremely short because they are being written as a part of a group I am a part of called the Wednesday Briefers.  Each Wednesday, members pick from a list of prompts and write a flash piece of between 500 and 1000 words.  "Thwarted" is the first story I'm writing as part of the group:

Thwarted

After getting out of the military, Mark is unsure what he wants to do with his life. Then he meets Trey, a current soldier in the US Army. Sometimes it seems like everything is conspiring against them. Can they make it or will they be... thwarted.

Not already reading the story but want to?

Let the discussion begin!

For some reason on the chapter page for the latest chapter it says it was posted at 10:00 AM, while on the main forum page it says 2:08 PM even though it's still a couple minutes before that now as of this post (both times Eastern).

Yeah, I noticed that too.  I think it's a glitch, so we'll see what happens!

I´ve loved reading this story. Mark and Trey are great characters and even if the story is more sad than happy, it´s a lovely story. I do love happy endings so I hope this is heading into that direction.

Can´t imagine how they are feeling. Trey is going into war and Mark just got off. They´ve only known each other a short time, now they´ll be separated for a year and there are no guarantees that Trey will come back.

Looking forward reading more  :read:

I'm so glad that you've been enjoying this story Suvitar!  I've really enjoyed writing the story up until this point though there has definitely been some rough spots for the two guys.  There is still a lot more to go, though I can't give away what's going to happen, so you'll just have to keep reading to find out what happens with them.

I've had many friends go off to war but I can't even imagine if it was my hubby going off as a ground troop in a war.  I know I'd be terrified and I'm so glad I'm not in Mark's shoes!  Thanks again for reading and for participating in my forum!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying the story!  Sorry about the delay in posting Ch. 19, things got a little crazy in my personal life, but hopefully I have things back on track.  Would love to discuss the story with the readers, so feel free to comment here as well as leaving reviews!!

Thanks for the new chapter! It was lovely as always  :)

It´s actually rather funny and sweet how scared Mark is to meet Trey´s family. Trey is a lovely person, so I´m hoping his parents are the same. Mark will need them during the time Trey is gone.

I agree that he's going to need them, but I can also understand the nervousness.  I mean, Jackie's reaction wasn't what he expected, I can only imagine how he's feeling about someone's reaction that he's never met!  Oh wait... I already know how it's going to go... hehehe....

Thank you to everyone who has waited so patiently for the updates to this story.  If you've by chance missed it, last week I posted Part XXXIV and I just posted Part XXXV this morning!  As you can tell, I'm back working on it and hopefully there won't be any more major delays.

Any thoughts on what's going to happen after this?

So far everyone has been so nice, now I´m looking forward meeting Mark´s father, he´s probably absolutely hateful person, too bad Mark mother won´t be there anymore. Couldn´t Trey have a very little accident, nothing major, just something that´d prevent him from going anywhere dangerous. Would a missing fingertip do it? I really hate the idea that they´ll be separated soon.

Glad you're looking forward to meeting Mark's father, that makes one of us!  I'm definitely not looking forward to writing his character!  I suppose Trey probably could have an accident, but that so totally wouldn't fit with the title of the story!  I think this is actually the first time I've actually had a reader request that I permanently maim one of my main characters.

I am determined to finish this story up in the near future.  No, that doesn't mean I'm going to cut corners or just suddenly end it, that does mean that I'm going to be consistently working on Thwarted in an effort to finish it up.  There's still quite a bit to go before I can call this story complete, at least another 10 chapters probably, maybe more.  Hope you enjoy the newest chapter!
