Gene Splicer PHD
Have you all read this? HAVE YOU?? Why not? Get out a cold drink, turn on a little music, clear the schedule for a bit and dig in here: https://www.gayauthors.org/story/chris-lewis-gibson/thehousesinrossford Chris teases the story with this: "With guns in the cookie jar and condoms in the collection plate, no matter how ordinary this Indiana town may appear from the outside, inside the houses in Rossford, there’s never a dull day." These are some FUN people to read about. They're a big ole complicated family and they do some pretty unconventional, funny and sometimes heartbreaking and always well motivated things. I'm not one to gush. But I read these stories from start to (almost finished) in a day, pretty much in a sitting. It's funny. It's got great characters and an obviously fleshed out backstory. The characters are great, they evolve with the story, and the story evolves with them. It's just a great read and Chris is a great storyteller. So go give it a shot! Chris Lewis Gibson
I couldn't agree more if I wrote it myself! Oh, wait a minute... But seriously, I am posting a new section this afternoon, in fact, that's what I came online to do. Link to comment
Chris Lewis Gibson
I'm curious to know who your favorite Rossford character is, and why? I can't reveal mine, I feel like that's just not fair. Link to comment
Gene Splicer PHD
I took a day to think about it. Because this is a toughie. I like Todd for his humanity and his honesty. I like Adele because she doesn't take any shit. I like Layla because she doesn't either. Noah is great for his simplicity and the path he's on - Father Noah maybe? I could go on about Keith and Paul and blah blah blah... But it's Fenn. He's my favorite. I can relate to the guy, I guess. Just enough of a criminal to warm my heart. Link to comment
Gene Splicer PHD
Here's MY question: who's the character you like least, and, to Chris: how fun is it to write a character/arc you don't like? Link to comment
Chris Lewis Gibson
Well that is so hard because they're all my kids and there are some I really didn't like to begin with who I came to love. Fenn goes without saying. He's an alter ego and the linchpin of the whole story. Dena is a favorite of mine. I love Todd for his thoughtfulness, kindness and PATIENCE. Because Fenn is an alter ego, Todd is the sort of man I would be happiest with. There are surprise characters I did not expect to like: Noah and Bryant and Tom. Initially I didn't care for Brendan, either. I love all of them a great deal, and their arcs are the most fun because there is the most transformation in them. (though Tom actually doesn't have much of an arc. He's sort of a goof. He's really the perfect ex.) The least fun arc, but in a way the most important is Keith's. While priests who make porn are a little rare, men who lead secret lives and have to come to terms with their sexuality are all too common. Oh, and my absolute, most irredeemable, without a doubt unsavory character is Dena's father, Kevin Reardon named after and styled after a Kevin who I find almost as distasteful... Link to comment
Chris Lewis Gibson
The first of the last three chapters of the Prayers in Rossford is up. Because I divide them into two or three segments this is the beginning of the last six parts. Link to comment
Chris Lewis Gibson
Today I begin editing the third Rossford book so that its available on Kindle. Putting it up here has given me the chance to be reacquainted parts of a story that has been in my life for such a long time, and remember things I had forgotten.I'm sort of meeting people all over again with all of your for the first time. For example, It's nice to meet Casey all over again. Link to comment
Chris Lewis Gibson
Just finished a strange and almost hallucinagenic rough draft of a fantasy novel that I swear I didn't know where it was going to the end. I wonder if Rossford was like this in the inception, but I don't think so. Link to comment
