The Kandric Saga V. The Chronicles of Kadin

Recommended Posts

OK. I don't know exactly what is going on or if there are any legal ramifications of this, however, I recently came to find two stories which share disturbingly similar contents.

I first found The Kandric Saga, written by Kyle Aarons, two years ago and I absolutely LOVED the story. The author created a dynamic plot and very well rounded characters.

Today I happened upon another story in the fantasy sategory on another website. The Chronicles of Kadin was written by Rick Spencer and while reading the prologue my mind snapped back to when I read the Kandric Saga.

Let me explain the similarities I found after reading only 4 chapters of The Chronicles of Kadin.

Everything in parenthesis are The Chronicle of Kadin counterparts that go with The Kandric Saga plot points, names, and ideas.

1. An ancient race named Mithling (Asrai) became evil and started a war with all other races.

2. The power of a being with Quarter Mithling (Quarter Asrai) blood was stronger than that of full blooded Mithling (Asrai)

3. The Quarter Milthling (Asrai) who defeated the Mithlings became gods.

4. The higher races of elves and dwarves, Alphar and Garm, retreat into themselves / The higher race of elves, Alvar, retreat into their own lands while the higher race of dwarves, Damarkk, stay involved with the world

5. The Goddess Vindayin is repeated in both stories ( not technically plagiarism if Vindayin was a god someone in the past believed in in our history.

6. Kandric trained under Master Shaman Glaster / Kadin trains under Master Shaman Alaric

7. The definition of at least Druids, Shaman, Mages, and Sorcerers is exactly the same for both stories. I saw reference to Warrior Adepts as well when reading The Chronicles so I estimate the same definitions are also correct for Warrior Adepts, Animal Adepts, and Swordsmen as well

8. In The Kandric Saga Aster, Kandric's half-brother, works in a metalworking shop under Master Lannet, a Garm Animal Adept MindMaster. Chapter 4 in The Chronicles introduces a new character Kail, who works in a metalworking shop under Master LANNETT with 2 T's.

I have no idea what is going on, maybe the authors are 100% aware and are supportive of each other feeding off of their work and have an agreement to both create works in the same fantasy universe. I however, find that theory hard to believe because the one and only thing I have found to be completely different between these stories is the landmass they are happening on. The Chronicles of Kadin even have a map. Of which I searched for traces of Kandric's land.

My question is this, if there wasn't a mutual sharing of information or ideas between these two authors, who plagiarized who? because both of these works are copyrighted.

P.S. Sorry for writing a story of my own to start this thread but I wanted to present most of the similarities I have found between these 2 stories in just 4 chapters.

Yoh, concerned people here!!!

Before every one here goes off the deep end! Let me say, I have enjoyed reading both stories. One is suited for this site , but I don't think would fit in to the theme and goals of Codey's World. The other could fit in here, but I think it is where it should be, the type of story and content Codey would have approved of (as long as the Unicorns dance, rest in peace my friend).

To Kyle Aarons, one of the best on this site, thank you (chapter 30, please).

To Rick Spencer, read every chapter several times, I hope you will continue the Fantasy.

Fantasy is a field of writing that is constantly expanding and one that is always influenced by the work of others in the field. I would be remiss in not acknowledging the influence and contributions of the many great writers whose influence has contributed to this story. I am obliged to extend thanks to the original inspiration for Chronicles. Many parts of the world; its guild rank system, and its gods, are taken, with permission, from the works of Kyle Aarons. Further, as an avid reader, I cannot help but draw inferences, ideas, and concepts from great authors like J.R.R. Tolkein, David Eddings, Ursula LeGuin, Raymond Feist, Janny Wurts, R.A. Salvatore, Katherine Kurtz, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, and others too numerous to mention.

I would also be remiss in not saying “Thank You” to Graeme, Codey, Ben, Brian, and Dave, for their support, encouragement, and solid suggestions that have improved this story immeasurably.

While this work may not be up to the standard set by the giants in the field, I hope it, and the world it plays out on may, in some small way, add to the body of material known as Fantasy.

I can't see where ANYone went off half cocked or cocked. As far as I can tell, everyone did have the facts straight. And WTH, the (again) came from leftfield and was uncalled for, as far as I'm concerned.

Kyle is a super person (not saying Rick isn't, but I don't know him and never spoke to him before) and if someone was indeed plagiarizing his work, not only did he deserved to be notified, but so did this site and others that hosts the stories.

The good news is, all is well    :thankyou:

Awesome. Thanks everyone for the quick replies. The purpose for this post was just to ask a question, it wasn't to immediately accuse anyone of plagiarism. Thank you for answering my question.

I also apparently owe an apology to Rick Spencer. He clearly had his acknowledgment page on the story website I just didn't see or read it. My mistake
