Sometimes it is the little things in a story that make characters come to life. In this case, it was Andy's mom who just after saying that school has told her that he's gay, comes out with the following delightful line:

Follow that up with the dad coming out with a set of porno magazines and dildo, and having Andy's sister claim the magazines and his brother claiming the dildo, and I almost cracked up. Andy has an amazing family :D

Almost cracked up? LOL, I was rolling on the floor! (well bed, but same difference :boy: )

What a thoroughly amusing and delightful story! I laughed my head off, and there were definitely quite a few "awwww  " moments as well.

I'm so happy for Andy and his adorable boyfriend/best friend, and crazy supportive family :D

Great story, Linxe! :)

Thanks everyone, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I've got my sights on the carpe diem anthology now, alas, I'm a bit stuck as to where to go. Hopefully inspiration will come to me. Speaking of which, I'm wondering if I can bring Andy and his family to the next anthology as well. Kind of an Anthology Series, just, in short stories that can run on their own.

Tis a thought, just a wee thought.

As long as each story is a standalone story, there's no problem. Other people have used common characters and settings between anthology entries, so that's fine. Just make sure it is a short story that shares characters, and don't require readers to read the previous story to understand it.

i loved this! It was absolutely hysterical!

I really liked the way you took the kind of drama that makes you cringe (the classroom scene) and made it really comical... almost spoof-like.

I really enjoyed this. I think it takes a lot a skill and talent to write a short story and this one is artfully done.

I think it might have been an interesting choice if at the end, it had turned out that Tommy wasn't gay himself; but that had known about Andy and was alright with it. It could have been an interesting commentary on friendship if Tommy had said that he really cared about Andy and it didn't matter that he was gay – that their friendship was more powerful than something as inconsequential as his sexuality. But that's just a thought. I really enjoyed the story as it was.

Ps. I pictured the being sick in school part like the projectile vomit scene from Stand By Me. I really hope that was what you were going for because it was brilliant.
