The GAzette Exclusive Sneak Peek

Each month The GAzette will attempt to bring you exclusive sneak peeks at stories being written by GA authors.  These little tasters will not appear in the Sneak Peeks forum.  They won't appear anywhere else on the site.  They're exclusive previews reserved only for the GA newsletter.  This month Dom Luka has agreed to provide us with a little teaser from the next chapter of With Trust...

"Are you even sorry?” I demanded, still glaring at Joe. “Not everything was your fault and I know that, but you’re the only one who acts like we didn’t f**k up.”

“Is this about those stupid paintings again?” Joe replied, and I frowned at him.

“I don’t know,” I stated. “You tell me what this is about. You think your friends abandoned you or something?”

“I didn’t say that!” Joe snapped.

“Well it can’t all be about Milo!” I insisted. “You might not like him but he never actually did anything to you, so stop acting like such an asshole every time his name comes up!”

Joe stared at me for a very long moment, chewing at his lip. “You know what Nels?” he finally said. “You’re right. It’s not all about Milo. It’s about you, and the way that you feel the need to defend him every time his f**king name comes up! You wanna keep your friend? Go ahead. Just don’t be surprised if you’re real ones disappear because you can’t get your head out of the rich kid’s ass!”

The GA Gossip Column

Have you ever been halfway into a story by your favorite author and wondered how much more there would be to read?  Have you ever wondered what projects your favorite author is working on?  Do you ever sit and wonder what your favorite author will be bringing you next?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you have found the article for you!  Having been assigned as The GAzette roving reporter I donned my best disguise and ventured out to where GA authors love to hang out.  I meandered through the crowd.  Disguised or not I still wanted to go as unnoticed as possible.  My eyes lit up seeing all the big names around me, though I did my best to be discreet with my adoration.

I noticed Dio standing near a large potted plant, leaning against the wall and talking quietly with someone.  I knew from the look on his face he had to be talking business.  With great stealth I edged up behind the potted plant and listened intently.

I was able to ascertain that his hit story Grey Eyed Justice is planned for thirty chapters at this point, while Broken Pegasus Wings should end up at about twenty-five.  He also said that he is working on a top secret mini-series, a complete story broken up into several chapters with a tentative title of Charcoal.  Apparently, from what he said we can look forward to its release just before or on October 31st!

Next I stumbled across Dan Kirk.  Dreams of Humanity, it seems, will be as long as thirty to forty chapters and he’s not ruling out a possible sequel!  The Bully, his high school-based story, will probably be twelve to fifteen chapters.

I didn’t have to wander far to overhear NickolasJames.  I didn’t know that he was standing right behind me until I turned around and saw him talking.  Again I am in luck as he is discussing one of his current works, Bodega Bay, a story that started as a ‘Summer Anthology' entry.

He says that Kevin, his main character, is a compilation of all the men in his life: his father, his cousin, his boyfriend and himself.   Staking My Claim, the sequel to his popular hit story My Jump Off, he says is his favorite story to write.

I couldn’t believe my luck when next I found Jack Scribe talking to one of those big-name reporters.  I was lucky enough to find a hiding place nearby just as the interview was beginning.  I was able to hit record on my pocket recorder and got this word-for-word from Jack’s mouth itself!

As one of the newest Hosted Authors, I'm surely the least-read in the Hosted Author group by GA members. My stories generally feature young adults and tend to focus on romantic themes amongst the angst of everyday living...plus a few dramatic episodes.

"I'm currently finishing Chapter eleven and plan on ending the story at Chapter twenty. This is the third series that follows four men who eventually become two couples. I realise that it takes a little more effort on the part of the reader to keep track of a larger cast. But it's fun for this writer to maneuver the characters into interesting intersections and situations."

Across the room I noticed Empathy in conversation and crept over there, trying to blend into my background.  As I had hoped he was talking about his latest release, Bad Seed, a story about a teenager who goes from being the post popular kid in school to now even having his best friend hate him.  He ends up alternating between the roles of a rebellious troublemaker and the victim of hate.  He says this story is still in the works and he has no idea how long it’s going to be.

I’m lucky enough to hear him run down a brief tally of possible future works as I eavesdrop.  These include tentative plans for sequels to both A Cursed Life and An Angel Among Them.  There’s also talk of him dabbling in the world of Star Wars fanfiction.  Another story is planned about a character who suffers a great loss and can’t seem to get past it, though the reasons aren’t as obvious as they seem.

As I turned away from that conversation I noticed a folded up piece of paper lying in the middle of the floor, obviously dropped by one of the partygoers.  I quickly made my way to it before anyone else could grab it.  Once I had it safely in my clutches, I found an out of the way corner and opened it up.  My hands trembled and my eyes lit up with excitement as I realised this paper was a rundown of everything RHawes16 is working on!  The following is exactly what I read on that lucky piece of paper!

"Replay: the story is in the final chapters now and there is about to be a big upheaval. Chester will be revealing his "other worldly" theory about the cause of the time-shifts, but is he right? Two main characters will not survive to the final chapter, but who? An event will take place before the end of the story that will tear Billy and Josh apart, but will it be forever?

"Anthology Entry: entitled The Beast of Gallows Point and features a werewolf, though it's more a story about acceptance and love than a real horror story. It's also a prequel to a series of stories planned for release next year, The Shadows Series, about a boy who, after his family is brutally murdered, is sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the town of Gallows Point, but the town holds a dark and evil secret."

After another couple of hours and getting no more juicy information, I was just leaving the party when I saw Viv standing outside.  Sure I’d get a little juicy information on her stories, I lingered in the shadows, my ears on full alert.  It wasn’t long before I heard that chapter twenty-two of From Behind Those Eyes has just gone up, with about three to five chapters left to go.

Well, there it is, the scoop on what our authors are working on and some sneak peeks at what you can expect in the future from them.  Be sure to check back next month for more updates brought to you by The GAzette's one and only roving reporter.

Author Interview

Every month The GAzette will be bringing you an exclusive interview with a different author featured at GA.  We racked our brains trying to decide which author to approach for the inaugural edition of the newsletter, but in the end there was only one real choice.

There isn't a member at Gay Authors who doesn't know his name.  In addition to being the owner of the site he is also the author of Aryn, Nick Cringle and Harry Potter and the Parliament of Dreams, among others.  This month The GAzette brings you an exclusive interview with Myr...

GA: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me today.

Myr: You are quite welcome.

GA: So, assuming there is anyone out there who doesn't know who you are, please introduce yourself....

Myr: I go by Myr on the net. I'm the site admin/owner of Gay Authors.

GA: You were also interviewed in the original GA newsletter. Why are you so popular?

Myr: I suppose it is mostly because I run the site. I do have my own fans who are mostly irritated at me right now because of my glacial rate of story release. Between GA, work and school stuff, I have little time to write or little creativity left.

GA: Are you still able to write for yourself, even if not for public consumption?

Myr: I have had a few things I've been jotting down when I have time. Ideas for when I'm really able to sit down and write.

GA: Your fans will shoot me if I don't ask, so...when will that be? huh? huh?

Myr: Well, since I've had a lot of help step up for GA, I've had more time. I finished school in the summer... so later in the fall?

GA: Sounds good. At least it buys you some time before they release bloodhounds. How does it feel knowing there are people who really care to see your next chapter?

Myr: It is really flattering.

GA: It doesn't secretly freak you out at all? <laughing>

Myr: To be honest, writing a Harry Potter fanfiction was a calculated move when I started. There is a huge fanbase for Harry/Draco stories. I figured I'd post some stuff instead of keeping my writing to myself. The response... was shocking. I quickly posted some of the other original stuff I was writing and that was popular too. As for being secretly freaked out... I am when I have fans offering sex if I'd just post the next chapter.

GA: Ha! not tempted at all?

Myr: Sex with strangers? Not my cup of tea.

GA: Good answer. So, speaking of a popularity issue...what's changed since that last interview (over 2 years ago at this point)?

Myr: Gay Authors has grown astronomically.

GA: Wanna show me your stats?

Myr: Well... in about 2004 we were getting around 2 million hits per month.  we are now getting around 12 million.

GA: Wow. Why the tremendous growth?

Myr: I'd like to think that it is the combination of our great authors and our great community.

GA: No secret sacrifices to deities?

Myr: Nope. <lol>

GA: When you started GA in 2002, did you ever think it would be this big?

Myr: I had always hoped, but I never expected it to get as big as it has.

GA: When did you first say to yourself "Wow! There is something major going on here!"?

Myr: Last year when I realized that it was way too big for me to handle on my own.

GA: How do you feel about sharing responsibility for the site? Has it been hard?

Myr: It was hard at first. Gay Authors is my child. But now that I've seen some great work from the management teams, I feel very confident that GA is in good hands.

GA: Me too. But I'm biased. <laughing>

Myr: I think you might be, yes.

GA: Ok. Another 'bias' question - who's your favorite GA author (to read)?

Myr: Oh... there is no safe answer to that one.

GA: Ha! nope. I should have warned you this would be tough.

Myr: As you might have noticed, I've learned a bit of politics in the last couple of years too. <lol>

GA: It does seem that way. How about you give me a list of your 'must read' stories - either ongoing or completed?

Myr: Well, I love dkstories entire Do Over saga. Dio is a mastermind in hooking me to both his stories - Broken Pegasus Wings and Grey-Eyed Justice. I'm always happy to see another chapter of Comicality's Gone From Daylight. I was hooked from the beginning on Dom's The Log Way. dkstories new one, Dreams of Humanity, shows real promise.  I've read some previews of GhostRyder15's newest and I'm really looking forward to those. Between all those, that's at least a week of good reading. <Lol>

GA: I still remember when you told me about Drake's A Royal Thief! I didn't sleep that week at all.

Myr: Yup. If you write a good fantasy adventure story... you can pretty much hook me. There is not nearly enough gay fantasy stories. Well.. unless you count all those rich gay high school boys saving the cute poor ones. That's fantasy. <lol>

GA: Hahaha...you mean, that didn't happen to you? Why do you suppose there are fewer fantasy stories anyway?

Myr: Sci-fi/fantasy tends to be a smaller subset of people. However, these people tend to be far more devoted to their genre. I know if "gay" and "fantasy" are involved, I'll at least look at it and give it a chance to hook me. One of the reasons all my stories are in this genre is that it is easier to write for me. Science Fiction is too much like work though.

GA: To go a sci-fi route with you, would you want a do-over?

Myr: Yes. I wouldn't mind going back and making a couple of little changes in my life.  Nothing so earth-shaking as Davey in Do Over, though.

GA: So <spoiler warning> you don't want to cause World War III?

Myr: Look around, we're already there.

GA: Too true, sadly. So let's say you can ask something of yourself in twenty years from now. What would you ask?

Myr: "What would you change to make things better?"

GA: Smart call. Sort of like asking for an infinite amount of wishes.

Myr: That would always be my first wish. <Lol>

GA: I never doubted it for a second. <laughing> So, to wrap things up - what would you like to tell all our readers?

Myr: Thank you for making Gay Authors what it is. Together, we can make things better. Gay Authors is a place where I enjoy going to read good stories. Maybe it is time to try writing yourself? You never know what you can do until you try.

GA: Well said. And thank you for giving your time and effort to make GA what it is and for humoring me with this interview.

Myr: You are quite welcome.
