Welcome to the second edition of The GAzette!

Welcome to the second edition of The GAzette, your monthly source for news, gossip and information for everything at Gay Authors.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who contacted me and the other newsletter staff members to offer their congratulations and comments after the last edition.

Your feedback was greatly appreciated by everyone here at The GAzette.  A lot of hard work goes into the production of this newsletter, so hearing from you, our readers, is always a welcome reward for all the effort.

This month's edition is packed full of news, reviews and articles of interest to everyone.  We have a special feature to mark the much-anticipated Fall 2006 Anthology, interviews with a prominent member of the site and a much-loved author, gossip from our roving reporter and much, much more, so sit back, relax and enjoy.

Announcing the Arrival of the GA Mentoring Program!

Gay Authors is proud to announce a new Mentoring Program aimed at helping writers and poets.

A panel of mentors has been set up to answer all of your questions, providing you with advice and support to help you develop your writing and expand on your skills. This is your opportunity to get help from some of the best writers at Gay Authors, to ask them questions and pick up some useful tips.

Some of the biggest names at GA have offered their time to help both new and veteran writers. To take advantage of this unique opportunity, please contact Vance (VLista) or Kevin (AFriendlyFace) today to enroll in the program. More information can be found in the official announcement on the forum.

The Gay Authors Quarterly Anthologies

THE FALL STORY ANTHOLOGY is now online!

How many ways can a story be written around a Halloween theme? Romance, mystery, fantasy, comedy, tragedy and several with a twist at the end ... the Fall Anthology includes stories by Viv, Jack Scribe, Luc, RHawes16, Davey, Lugh, NickolasJames, Camy, Dezlboi, C James, Graeme, Erez Adam Galmor, DarkShadow, birdsofafeather and more.

After you've read the stories, make sure to visit the Discussion Forums to discuss the stories and give your feedback and appreciation to the writers.

WINTER ANTHOLOGY - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Call for Submissions for the Winter Story Anthology has been posted in the Anthology forum. The theme, as chosen by the GA membership, is "BLIZZARD", and the submission deadline will be December 15, with a projected "online" date around New Year's.

There have been a few changes in the submissions guidelines, so make sure to check them out if you're planning to participate. The anthology is open to all GA members; you don't need to be an official GA "author" to submit a story.

Ye Olde Fairytales Retold Anthology

Once upon a Tyme, the Great Wizard Myr called forth across the land:

"Heare ye, heare ye, the realm of GayAuthors shall, by proclamation, haveth a Fairytales Anthology. Sharpen thee thine quills, presseth thee thine parchments, and retell thee thine tales of the enchanted realms!"

Yes, folks, GA is having a special "Fairytales Retold (to a Gay Theme)" Anthology! All you have to do is put a new spin (and a gay theme) on a traditional Fairytale, Fable, or Folk Tale.

For information on the rules and guidelines, as well as the submission date, please see the official announcement
posted in the forums.

New Authors

Gay Authors is proud to announce the addition of two new authors to our literary family.

Authors Rec and Tiffani Chin have agreed to join the GA team, bringing with them new work for all you story-hungry readers!

At present, their sites are under construction, but it is hoped that both will be online before the end of November, so keep a watchful eye for the official announcements.

Rec, author of Jake's Hand, GA member and editor, will become our latest Hosted Author.

Tiffani Chin, author of the fabulous Jumping Over My Mountain will be joining the site as a new Shared Hosted Author.

CALLING ALL NON-FICTION WRITERS!
(and Readers, too)

Have you ever visited our eFiction section, as either a writer or a reader, and wished there were a similar place where GA members could post their non-fiction writing?

Your wishes have been granted... GA is proud to announce the new ARTICLES AT GAY AUTHORS.

Everyone is welcome to post their non-fiction writing, whether it be a brief informational post, your favorite recipe, a review of the latest music CD, a writing tip you'd like to share, or a full-length essay. We've also created a special Non-Fiction Readers' Discussion Forum.

At present, categories for Member-written Articles include Book Reviews, Movie Reviews, Story Reviews, Music Reviews, Food, Travel, Coming Out Stories, Teen Support/Teen Issues, For Editors, For Writers, and LGBT Issues.

If you have an idea for another category, just let us know.

To access the Articles section from the forum pages, just click on "Articles" on the menu bar at the top of the page or follow this link.

Author Chats...Your Chance To Talk To Your Favourite Author

Last month The GAzette brought you highlights from the Author Chat with Viv.  It was intended to be a one-off feature designed to interest members in attending the chat sessions, but following the feedback received regarding the piece we have decided to make it a regular feature in the newsletter.

The latest author chat took place with hosted author LittleBuddhaTW on Sunday, October 8th.  Here are some of the highlights from that chat:

Chatter 1: How did you come up with the characters in "Someday Out of the Blue"?
LittleBuddhaTW: Ryan was loosely based on a real person as was Tatyana. Connor, Toby, Cody, the twins et al were entirely made up.
Chatter 1: Tatyana was real? WOW!
Chatter 2: She was my favorite character!
Chatter 3: I thought she seemed too real to be completely made up.
LittleBuddhaTW: Yes, and the real Tatyana was just as nutty as in the story. I got an email from her a few weeks ago; she’s one of the first people I came out to.

LittleBuddha on how SOOTB evolved from the original storyline: Toby was actually the one who was supposed to die originally.
Chatter 1: I thought so.
Chatter 2: Wow! Good thing you changed it or you’d have been lynched by your fans. <laughing>
Chatter 3: <laughing> I know I wouldn’t have talked to him anymore.
LittleBuddhaTW: I ended up liking Toby too much…couldn’t let him die.
Chatter 2: Good thing for Toby he was so endearing. Did you change much else in the storyline?
LittleBuddhaTW: No, the ultimate outcome was the same.
Chatter 2: <laughing> Just a different body in the coffin huh?
LittleBuddhaTW: <laughing> Yeah, basically.

Chatter 1: What’s your new story ["My Elusive Drug"] going to be about?
LittleBuddhaTW: Well drug abuse will be a major theme, as can be guessed from the title.
Chatter 1: Oh, I was thinking it was symbolic.
LittleBuddhaTW: Both actually.

Chatter 1: Is there any hope of a sequel of SOOTB featuring Toby and Cody.
LittleBuddhaTW: Yes, it’s on the drawing board. It will feature Toby; I’m not so sure about Cody though.

*These selections have been reformatted from their original versions.  Every effort was made to retain the original content*

Due to the temporary closure of Live Chat, the Author Chat with Nick James had to be cancelled.  A new date will be announced sometime this month, so keep watching for it!
