Life's Unexpected Surprises - 3. Chapter 1.3 - Elijah Holmes Act 1 - September

Elijah Holmes is about to enter a new adventure. His mother has recently married a new man with his own son. Brothers, Elijah and Breston are preparing to move to a new town. But first a little nerding!

“Welcome to Anime Revolution, what's your name young man?”

“Elijah Holmes, sir.” I was meeting Isaac Rieu, the artist for Blades of Eternity. It's one of my favorite Graphic Novels. I love how it is drawn like a Japanese manga, but it's North American.

So, like I said my name is Elijah Holmes. I'm just 13 years old, turning 14 in a couple of months. I have brown hair and bronze eyes. My hair has gotten a little longer than I normally like it. But it's fine; I'll get it cut soon.

Isaac smiled. “Hello Elijah, enjoying the convention?” Oh ya, I'm in Vancouver at the Anime Revolution convention. Isaac is almost always at this convention; he lives up north and can only make it to this one usually.

“Yes sir, I'm here with my step-brother Breston.” Breston peaked out from behind me. Our parents got married at the beginning of the summer. We've known each other for a few years, but we're legally brothers now.

“Hello, sir.” Breston has blonde hair and blue eyes and is a year older than me. He's a pretty cool older brother. “It's an honor to meet you. I've bought every volume of Blades, and its spin-offs.”

“Well thank you for supporting the official release, Breston.” He's so cool up close. Isaac's red hair looks so awesome and perfectly set aside from his face.

Oh... I'm kinda gay... very very gay. It's actually how Brestonand I started to bond. Just before his dad proposed to my mom, we sorta slept together. We don't talk about it anymore, but I guess since we're brothers now that would be weird.

“I have a bunch of collectibles.” I tried to keep up with the conversation.

Isaac giggled. “Well thank you, Elijah. I don't have much time, so how about we take a picture together.” Breston and my eyes glittered.

The photographer took a quick picture of us and printed it out. Isaac signed it for us, and we were on our way to the next thing. We walked around taking pictures of all the cosplayers and some other famous people.

Breston lead us towards the food. “I'm kinda hungry, how about you?”

I shrugged. “I'm okay, but if you're hungry, we can get some food.”

“Can you believe that we're gonna live in the same town as Isaac Rieu?” Oh ya... we're moving to the hometown of Isaac. Maybe I'll see him around town. “It's going to be so cool seeing him every once in a while.”

I shrugged. “Seeing him more often will lose the value in seeing him.” Breston looked like he agreed. Then Breston's phone went off. “Is it mom?”

“Ya you're mom is waiting for us outside.” Breston paid for his food before we headed out of the convention center. It was only a couple of minutes before we found Mom walking up. “Hey.”

Mom smiled. “How was the anime thing?”

I rolled my eyes at my mom. “It was fun; we met Isaac Rieu.”

“The artist you like a lot?” I nodded profusely. “Was it everything you hoped it would be?”

I had a bounce in my step as we made our way to the car. “Ya, he was super chill and really friendly. I can't believe we are moving to the same town as him!” Mom just nodded in agreement. The amount of times Breston and I have talked about it; mom is kinda tired of it.

Over the next couple of days, the whole family finished packing everything up. My room was pretty easy I don't have a whole lot of stuff in my room. Mom was always strict when it came to using a computer and video game use. My room just consists of my bed and desk basically. Oh, and my blades collectibles.

The day before we were going to head out Breston came up to my room's door. “Ready for the great move?”

I shrugged. “I guess. I don't really wanna move, but I get why we gotta.”

“Ya, dad has a good job lined up there, and you're mom already has a teaching job too. They are set; we just gotta get into a rhythm and meet some new friends. Until then we can hang out.” Breston was right; we'll get used to it all, but I still don't like it.

I threw myself back onto my bed looking up at the ceiling. “I like this place... I've lived here since I can remember.”

Breston shrugged. “I've moved around a lot, so there isn't much for me to hold on to anywhere.” Ya, that's right mom was the reason Brandon, Breston's dad, stopped moving around. “I just hope that this is the last move we do.”

“I agree with you. Moving sucks.”

He chuckled and rolled his eyes. “Says the kid who's only moved once.” I waved him off. “Anyways, I'm heading off to bed. Hopefully, it's not too bad tomorrow.”

“Good night Breston.”

I took a look around at what won't be my room tomorrow. I've grown up in this room; it's been painted to my liking a couple of times. This is MY room... and now I have to leave it behind.

As I began being nostalgic about my room, there was a knock on my door. Brandon was standing at the door. “Hey buddy, how are things?”

I got up from lying on my bed to talk with him. “Things are okay, just thinking about the move...”

Brandon nodded before coming into my room. “What are you thinking about specifically?”

“Just that I've lived here all my life and now I'm leaving it behind.” There wasn't any intention to point blame at him, but it kinda felt like I did. “I didn't mean for that to sound like I blamed you.”

“Don't worry bud; I didn't take it that way. I hope you and Breston don't get too overwhelmed by everything. We'll be in the new house in just a couple of days.” He ruffled up my hair; I pushed him off. “Get to sleep; it's an early morning tomorrow.”

“I was planning on it. Good night Brandon.”

Brandon grabbed the door as he was heading out. “See you tomorrow morning Elijah.” I gave him one last smile before my door closed.

“I guess there's no better time to go to bed,” I spoke to myself. I stripped down to my boxers and slipped under my covers. Suddenly my eyelids felt really heavy and then I was out like a light.

You know those kinds of sleep where you don't dream anything. It's just black, and then you wake up, and its hours upon hours later. That's the kind of sleep I had. It was so quick that I didn't think I actually fell asleep.

Today is the day I guess... Time to start a new life somewhere else.

Chapter End.

That's chapter 1 as a whole.
Each Character will have their own chapter until chapter 5 when all the POVs enter the same point. Right now they are kinda very scattered about.
