My First - And Perhaps Last - Blog

Timothy M.

How to write a blog? I've no idea, since this is my first try. I've looked at a few blogs written by other GA members, and I don't think I could come up with anything remotely resembling the interesting, funny or cool entries of other people.
In any case I don't have much to say, and I certainly don't expect anyone to pay a lot of attention. Except my GA friends who're kind, supportive and wonderful. You know who you are. ;)

My main reason for creating a blog and making an entry is to compile a list of the reviews I've written for the site blog Featured Story. This will make it easier for me to find them, mainly when I want to enjoy reading the nice comments they got. Apart from having the chance to draw attention to stories I admire, one of the best things about writing reviews is the feedback. I'm grateful for every single reply and like I got for those story reviews.

I can recommend writing reviews for the blog, and Renee Stevens is always happy to receive them. I suggest reading her description of How to before you take the plunge.

Great idea, Tim.  Nice way to re-feature the stories you've reviewed.  (and you did just fine with the Blog ;) )

Tim, I have just added these stories to my "To-Read" list  and like Val said, you did a fantastic job on your first blog

In fact my only complaint about the story is the same thing I feel about a small box of exquisite chocolate: it finished too soon and I crave more. If you do decide to read Percy’s delightful 2012-anthology piece, please add a review begging for another chapter. If enough of us ask, he may relent and tell the next part of this special story. If not, I shall have to be content with admiring this delightful short story whenever I read it, as well as Percy's other masterpieces in this genre.

I just read Savory, Bitter and Sweet  :D Tim, I agree with you, this story needs to continue :)

Very nice, Tim. *pats Tim on shoulder* I'm sure there will be more eventually. Think of all the things you could rant about here... :P

Thanks, Drew, I'm glad to hear that :D  and even more now I know you read the reviews in order to find out whether the stories were actually something you might want to read.

Eventually is the key word here, since I do plan to write more reviews. Other than that...

Read a couple of these but the others are new to me. Because you think enough of them I'll add them to my list.

Thanks for doing this, it's a great way to bring attention to stories we might not have read.

Thanks for your trust, my friend. I'm not sure they are all suitable for your gentle soul, but at least the reviews may give you an idea.

Thank you, Tim, for mentioning Judas Tree.

For those wanting to see some more awesome reviews by our intrepid and droll Dane, I direct you to those he recently left for Destiny. Many of them, especially for the latter chapters, are near-masterpieces of the reviewer's art. I feel honored to have been the recipient of them.

Thanks for all your amazing support

A great list Tim! I need to do some reading, I see.

btw don't listen to those other guys, you blog well ;)

I hope you mean reading of the blog reviews as well as the stories themselves. ;) I'd love to get more feedback on the reviews.

 What other guys? So far I only got encouraging noises about my TIMID blog. But one entry doesn't make a blog, lol.

Now that we can add story reviews to Completed stories, I'm thinking about copying my blog reviews to the stories themselves. Maybe in slightly shorter or amended versions. Any objections or comments?

I think you should start reviewing (complete stories) more, and posting them in regular Blog posts, not just the featured stories blog but here too!

That's a great idea, Kitt. :2thumbs: Especially now Renee has a Review Team to keep her supplied with blog reviews. Now we have the new Review feature for Completed stories I've been planning to write some for my favorite stories, but I hadn't thought about posting them here too. But it would be a good way to keep track of the ones I have done, and also give readers a place to see them all listed, if they are interested in knowing which stories I recommend.

It's fine.  Just don't put the same review in two places.  Google gets really snotty about "duplicate content".  You can write a long review on the blog.  Then when you write the story review, make it shorter and include a link to the longer review.  It'll make a nice little blog insert into the post.  Also link the story in your blog.. like below. (just paste the link and it auto formats)

That's good advice, Myr. I'll make sure to change and shorten the reviews when added to the story and link to the longer blog review. And inserting the new format links to stories I review also works well.

And I can't edit anyone else's comments anymore, so thanks for fixing that too.

A good way to avoid duplicate content would be one (longererer) review with links in the other possible locations.
