Bill W - No Way! A short story about gays in history.

Recommended Posts

I was inspired after perusing a thread in the Members Q & A Forum, so I did some research on the subject of Homosexuality in History. Although there are probably more scholarly works and publications on this topic, I thought you might find this enjoyable and informative.

I’d love to hear your reactions to this, so please feel free to expand upon this topic.

This was a very informative read. I learned a lot, and it made me think of others. Dusty Springfield was one of my favorite singers, and Rupert EVerett made some great movies. I know you could not touch on all, but as I said, I am sure many here will feel like they have not wasted their day once they read your story, because they will probably gain new knowledge also. Thank!

Bill,

What an interesting journey through our gay past.

I'm wondering, though, where you got your information on Marie-Antoinette. I've studied French History (mostly pre-Revolutionary) extensively, and haven't run across anything credible that says she had a sexual relationship with a woman. It would not have been easy for her to have affairs (despite what some salacious biographers would have us believe) because she lived her life under a virtual microscope.

On the other hand, you may want to add Louis XIII to your list, who was probably bisexual, but definitely had his male lovers. The most infamous gay man of the era was Monsieur (Phillipe d'Orleans), the brother of Louis XIV. He was the flamer of the generation, and sometimes even dressed up as a woman and made his lovers escort him to balls. Focused on jewelry, clothes, and palaces, he was considered a dilettante and a fop, but created the marvel that was St. Cloud Palace, and left behind a massive estate. His son became Regent of France after the death of Louis XIV.

Mark, I spent days going over various informations about gays in history and found information that said Marie- Antoinette in a couple of different places. It said that she had sexual affairs with some of her court ladies. This may have been that Louis XVI was not overly affectionate and it was said their sex life was lacking, so Marie turned to one of the few options she had available to her.

Mark, here's one place she's listed, but I read more details elsewhere, just can't locate it yet.
