GA has changed my life

Recommended Posts

I believe that was one of the reasons GA was started and why many of us started writing, to help others avoid the same mistakes we had made.  I'm glad to see that others, including yourself, have benefitted in the process.  As others pick up the mantle and keep this going, who knows how many others we may help.

Robert says it so well! Except for the length of time, and the partner thing of course. I don't think many of the folks on here swing my way! :P Still, I have a much richer life and finally told my family I'm bi, sold some stories, made a ton of friends I'd otherwise never have known... all because my voracious appetite for something to read led to me trying something new, MM fiction. Who knew what would happen from clicking one tiny link?

I wholeheartedly agree.  This place has been a community I have searched for for a long time.  Before I came here, even my friends that I saw in person all the time, didn't know the real me.  Maybe it's because of the anonymity or whatever, but I actually feel...okay being the weird intellectual who seriously loves gay fiction.  Lol.  This place has done a lot for me and I wouldn't trade this community for the world.

It's funny how this community influenced me enough to tell my family that I was Bi.  I can so relate to Cia.  Love my hubby and kiddo, but now I can enjoy life to the fullest, being myself.  Thanks guys for paving the way for me after 52 years.  Awesome friends and folks.

I think GA is a wonderful place. I have met so many awesome people here, well, unfortunately not in person, but still...there are so many terrific people on here, administrators, moderators, authors, techs, the list goes on and on. Everyone has always made me feel welcome and they are so accomodating when I ask all my stupid questions.

I work with a few authors on another site, but I'm not involved with that site like I am at GA. I think of everyone on here as one big, friendly family, and you can never have enough family, right? Or is that friends? lol J/K

So Scotty, welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy your stay! =)

If it weren't for GA I wouldn't have met Cia, da luv of my life.

Oh, you know she is married and if she doesn't kill you, there is other members in her house that will :P

GA is awesome. Posting here has brought back my confidence in my writing. I feel like I belong, and that's a pretty awesome feeling I don't get very often. <3

Thorn, you're a terrific writer and you should never doubt that. I always look forward to reading your stories! They are well-written, the characters are fleshed out, the dialogue flows, and the stories are never boring. :)  Every time I see an update I do a little happy dance! lol Although, I admit, I haven't read your Harry P. story. I think I had enough of HP from reading all the books, sorry. And of course seeing all the movies. But if I had my choice I would always go with original stories on here.

Well, I figured since I'm writing it anyway and it's M/M, and since there is a Harry Potter section, I might as well put it on here too. :P Thanks for all your encouragement! I love your reviews. You're a wonderful human being!

I have always liked reading M/M stories, and I have read stories on a few other sites.. But GA is so much more than stories !  I remember when I was new here and I found the "last post win" in games and humor - I didn't dare to post in it at first afraid that I was gonna intrude or something :P I have met so many wonderful people here and I probably spend too much time here - but I love GA !!

Did you have an interest in reading and writing before you came here, scotty? The reason I ask is that if the level of skill I saw on display in your writing is something you've cultivated almost entirely over only three months, that's some impressive momentum and mojo you've got there and a real testament to the power of this site (and your madskillz of course).

I've only been coming here for a little over a month and interacting with the community for a lot less than that. I've been impressed with how this community is managed. I wonder if -- I may being saying something that's as obvious to a gay person as pictures of Charles Manson with the words "MY IDOL" scribbled in red plastered across the wall of a bed room of a prime suspect in a serial murder case is to a detective -- the advent of the Internets has been a godsend to the LGBT community everywhere. I imagine it really helps to be able to get support from people when the world outside your window seems it like just wants unload bird doo on you. An anonymity is great when you're not sure you want people to know all the gory details yet.

However, as we all know, the Internet has a real dark side to it and that's where the strict and fair rules this place uses to keep things appropriate, safe, welcoming and friendly to all come into sharp relief. Every really good community must have some clear-headed leaders who can sift the right from the wrong and guide people to collect more rights into it than wrongs. And that's what this community, I think, excels at.

May there be many more success stories like scotty and some of the other posters in this thread as this site forges on into the future!

I have been interested in writing and reading for a long time, but 3 months ago was when I decided to focus mainly on gay fiction. So my writing has developed over 3 moths but mainly in the gay fiction genre. but I have written different fiction on other sites.

I found myself almost wishing that I'd found GA back in '02 when I first started posting stories online (I had a different username back then), but then I realised that I've been gone from every community, forum and story archive I was a part of then for like six years, and that the person I posted as back then doesn't really exist anymore. So I'm glad I found GA now, because if I had done so back then I wouldn't be here anymore, probably. I went through a long creative dry spell as far as my writing is concerned, which didn't start to pick up again until a couple of years ago. Now I'm back in the game, and it was exactly the right time to find you guys.

writing has always been a part of my life. i have been writing poems since i was 15, like a secret code to encrypt my feelings from the world... i used to ask my friends to review, and i guess i started writing them so often, it felt really unfair to ask them for their opinions all the time. i started writing short prose, to articulate my messy feelings. writing became my way to cope. and recently i got into writing some fictional prose on my tumblr but it was never well received. i decided to come on GA and share with everybody what I wanted to write. The feedback I've gotten is incredible, and it's only made me want to write more. And through chat and all the reviews, I've gotten to know some really cool people!

And I was always one of those people who were skeptical about meeting people online.

So I'd definitely say GA has changed my life.

Welcome and congrats, Scotty.  GA is a great place and I'm so happy you found it and it has helped you with finding self acceptance.  We all need that no matter who we are or who want to be. Remember that you're an amazing person because you're unique - a one of a kind human being in this world who deserves  to be safe, happy, healthy and loved. Surround yourself with friends and family who love you for you and ignore those who won't - they don't matter.  Good luck with you're writing and I look forward to reading one of your completed stories.

all your feedback and comment are very much appreciated.

Yours,

scotty 94

I'm glad you are feeling better Scotty.

However- never forget that there are people out there that wish us ill.

Enjoy your life but remember to keep your eyes open and watch your back.
