northie
That's cause there are no black dots! There are - at the edges of your vision some of the dots appear black. When you move your eyes to 'see' them, they disappear. That's why, as Drew says, it's impossible to do. 2 Link to comment
Kitt
Enlarge the pic and follow the lines. While they may appear black at normal size and appear to move, enlargement shows they are all white. Link to comment

Site Moderator Reader1810 Posted June 21, 2016 Site Moderator Share Posted June 21, 2016 Technically not an optical illusion, but I've always liked M.C. Esher's work, such as this one: My eldest brother (uh oh, just realized he is the same age as you. Coincidence? I think not.) got this poster as a teenager and he still has it. He has another one by the same artist but I don't remember what it looks like. 1 Link to comment

Site Administrator wildone Posted June 21, 2016 Site Administrator Share Posted June 21, 2016 Ooh! I can't stop looking at this one! What ate these two supposed to be? As in, when you look at them what do you see? All I see is like looking down a funnel. Nothing moving nothing shifting. The only one that stood out to me was the shifting non existent black dots. Ive never seen what most others see in these 1 Link to comment

Have you maybe colored contact lenses or some kind of parachromatism? I can't see the difference between some green and blue hues, but I passed the test required for driving. Thanks Drew. I read glittery's post about this and I think she had figured it out. I think you meant northie :-) Link to comment

You might let your eyes go out of focus a bit and you might see the effect. Its kind of neat when you do. Link to comment
