Ah... I forgot I was supposed to start a topic for this story so people can ask questions or discuss things I'm writing. I try to inform my writing in this piece with canon from the comic books, even though it is set in the Movie-verse. Or, at least, one possible permutation of it. I guess it is somewhat AU now because of DoFP, but if we subscribe to an infinite universes cosmology, then perhaps this is just another future of the original timeline.

And now to post what I originally wanted to say and needed a place to say it:

I've noticed just looking at the view counter that it seems people have missed reading chapter 5. It's my fault because I messed up something in the publishing system with chapter 5, so it never appeared in the update list, and it looks like people are skipping from 4 to 6.  That must be a huge turn-off because chapter 5 explains why John is suddenly at Xavier's in chapter 6... I put a head-note in to try and circumvent some of that, but I think it was too late. Hopefully people will have mercy and like the story enough to keep reading. Sigh.

Ugh, sometimes I hate the publishing interface. I accidentally published a chapter that wasn't supposed to go live for several weeks, so now I've had to unpublish it. That means when it goes live again when it should actually fit, it won't show up in the 'new stuff' feed. I guess I'll have to just put up an alert here and maybe a personal status update too. It serves me right for editing a chapter at 2 am, but goddamn it that's the only time I have to do this stuff sometimes!

I really wish the site's technical crew could change the editing interface so that it by default only publishes an edited chapter if it is already published, and keeps a chapter that is pre-published still set to go live at the originally specified date. I'm not sure if that is a difficult thing to do, but there has to be some way of making this simpler. I'm not totally green on publishing on this site now, but it's frustrating that I keep making these silly mistakes because of an interface design flaw. All that said, I appreciate that the interface that we do get is way better than what is offered by other publishing sites, and I appreciate all the hard work the admin team does to keep this ship afloat. It's kept me happy for years as a reader and now as a writer too, and I would be remiss to not qualify any criticisms with that context.

Anyway, the (real) next chapter of Running for Home will be posted Sunday morning as usual.

Cheers.

I hope everyone enjoys this week's chapter. It got modified a bit from it's original form when I started posting, after some prompting from Cia. Overall, it has a lot more depth and it was extremely satisfying once I finished the revisions.

Be alert next week - the chapter will go up but will not appear in the story feed. I will try to 'update' it so those of you following me or the story will receive some sort of notification. You can expect it to be up and available to read on Sunday morning as usual. I'll post some reminders, too. (I'm not desperate, I'm really not lol)

No problem, we'll find it. And I avoided the issue with chapter 5 by binge-reading after you posted chapter 12. ;)

Loved chapter 13 and I even managed to leave a review. :D

Oh, and not knowing the universe beforehand doesn't prevent me from enjoying the story.

Chapter 14 of Running for Home is up, but won't show in the stories feed because of my muck up with the pre-publishing setup once again. I'll get the hang of this eventually. Expect things back to normal next week. We get to see some introspective John this week, and the soft intro of two more characters.

Glad you enjoyed it that much! John has such a distinct voice and outlook on life in my mind, he mostly just writes himself and I transcribe it for you lovelies. :P

Next chapter out in... oh! A little over 11 minutes from now!

I was going to mention this when I saw your review - it was amusing to me becausd that would have irritated him beyond belief. There are only three people in the world that have ever had permission to call him Johnny - his paternal grandfather, Jubilee, and Bobby. We don't know anything about his grandfather yet, though maybe he will make an appearance some time when John writes about his family. Bobby definitely has lost any rights to use it, so I guess that leaves us with Jubilee.

I hope everyone is enjoying the direction things are going with this story. Next week's chapter isn't going to be particularly rough, but after that John's going to start going on another emotional rollercoaster ride. Life's never simple, eh?

I wish I could like the New Year's Eve chapter a thousand times. running-around-smiley-emoticon.gif

It was so awesome, just perfect.   :worship:

I'm not going to say anything for fear of spoilers, but one of the things I liked most was St. John saying honesty was the right choice to make.

I'm glad you liked it. It was a beast to write, in a good sort of way. There were so many different emotions I needed to cover, and getting the stilted, tentative and vulnerable conversation they had at the end right took some work. I'm still not sure that it is completely right, but it was coming from a place where they were both overwhelmed even if they knew what they wanted at the base of it all.
