Finally!!! A staging of Cavalli that explores some of the awesome sensuality in every bar of his incredible stage music. This vid is tantamount to soft porn ;)

This is amazing. Were  they even allowed to imagine this in the seventeenth century? Incredible.

OH YES! Sometime I'll post scenes from Calisto. So many sex scenes - including Jupiter seducing Calisto disguised as Diana. Also, one of the nymphs was written for a male tenor to perform; he's hot for Mercury.

@Lux Apollo This one's for you, Lux :) I'm not sure the performance is the best, but some of the arias are really interesting, like the first one. Let me know what you think.

Nicola Fago, Cantate a Ariette, circa 1695

@Parker Owens For you, this awesome recording of Josef Hoffman performing the Liszt piano transcription for Wagner Tannhäuser overture. It was recorded in 1915, but comes to life with each new unscrowling. Hope you like it (the playing starting at min 5:40 is fascinating....)

And one for myself :) This is the central ensemble from Paisiello's I Pittagorici, 1799. It's a really convincing performance - makes one remember why Paisiello was considered the world's greatest stage composer for most of Mozart's lifetime.

Thanks for sharing this AC. I was unaware of this composer's existence! And he was one of Jomelli's teachers, too. The music is definitely of quality, and a decent variety of gesture and idiom explored in the set. Fairly restrained harmonically, though there were a few interesting moments in some of the recitative. I wish I spoke Italian, because I feel like I'm definitely missing half the story just enjoying the music without understanding the speech. Very enjoyable, though.

A really nice performance too! Thanks for posting this. I'm one of those guys who still thinks of Bo Derick and the movie 10 when I hear this.... Played it on TV when I was a kid....okay, when I was a teenager ;)
