*Sneak Peek* A Sci-Fi Or Western Choose Your Own Adventure Story

Recommended Posts

I can't even believe that I'm even thinking about starting this. It will be a huge undertaking, but I think it would be fun to write and read. I used to love reading choose your own adventure books when I was a kid, even though I normally ended up dying about 3-4 chapters into the story.

Let me know what y'all think.

I dont know what these are... is it like a campfire story, where people add a chapter?

No, if you try to read the book's chapter in chronological order, it will make absolutely no sense. At the end of each chapter, the main character is given two choices. If you make choice A (ie help Ben escape the planet) then you go to Chapter 6 and start reading. If you make choice B (search for a safe house on planet instead) go to Chapter 3 and start reading. If you make too many wrong choices, the character dies or something as bad. If you make the right choices, the character gets their "Happily Ever After."

I used to get so mad because I would normally be dead within 3 chapters. Then I would start over and make different choices. It's different adventures within one story, and you get to choose which adventure the character goes on.

Okay ... so your're writing this?

First, I need to outline everything. That way I know which paths lead to the end. Right now, though, it's just an idea, but it's taken deep roots.

Sounds like a challenge my friend.

Used to love reading this type of books as a kid. The Time Traveler series was pretty good, and they were told from a perspective of you are the protagonist. I would read a story of this type, and agree on "Why choose one genre, do both as a mix!"

we used to love these books as children, but I'm not sure how you'd make the leap from short scenes to a full blown novel. But it could be fun. Planning, planning, and more planning is probably the key.

Good luck.

And yeah, totally mix your sci-fi and western. It's the world's greatest genre.
