I wrote this story a little while back and an older, less polished version was originally posted on another site. I've gotten requests from a couple of people to post Stepping Out in Faith here in GA, which I'm happy to do since it's now got several new and improved scenes. My worry is that it's heavy on the religion. Would people be interested in diving into something like this?

Andy opened his eyes, fully awake with no lingering tiredness or wishing he could turn over and fall back asleep. He couldn’t remember the last time he slept so well or felt so rested.

 

Then he realized why.

 

He was using Marcus as a pillow—head on Marcus’ shoulder, arms and legs wrapped around Marcus as if he was afraid the other man would run away while he slept.

Marcus was still snoring softly, curls in disarray and falling all over the place in a giant mop. Andy brushed the soft curls back, and trailed the tips of his fingers along Marcus’ temple.

 

He ran his palm across Marcus’ cheek and grinned at how much he liked the scraping stubble. Andy remembered the feeling from last night when Marcus kissed his way across Andy’s body and then down in that intimate spot with that sensitive skin. Andy blushed at the memory.

 

He snuggled closer to Marcus; he was reluctant to leave the safe cocoon of the bed and Marcus’ arms. He breathed deep the scent of Marcus, potent after a night of love making.

 

Andy caught himself in mid-thought. He had assuming it was love making. And now that he thought about it, it was love making for him. It certainly was more than just meaningless sex with some stranger. But was it just meaningless sex for Marcus?

 

Andy didn’t want to think that it could be. Marcus had shown him more compassion, care and tenderness than anyone he had ever met in his entire life. Why would he do that if Marcus was just looking for someone to sleep with? He could have anyone he wanted, why would he bother with Andy unless it meant more than just some physical release.

 

He gazed at Marcus’ profile, serene during sleep and, without thinking, Andy sent up an unspoken prayer that this was more than just convenient sex for Marcus, that Marcus felt as deeply about whatever this was between them as Andy did.

 

He caught himself again. What was he thinking, praying about something like this? He had no right to be asking the Lord for anything of this sort. He was a priest; he’s supposed to be chaste. And homosexuality is wrong. This was sinful on so many levels.

 

The heaviness of guilt crashed down on Andy as he pushed away from Marcus, looking for the time: five am. Andy panicked and scrambled out of bed in search of his clothes.

Hudson, I actually read this story on that site! :D Unlike here on GA, I'm not all that active over there as a member, so I'll say something here: that story is amazing and you should definitely post it here! :yes:

 

Now on religion, I'll say up-front; I am irreligious, but I won't avoid a story just because it deals with religion. :) Furthermore, there are many stories on GA that deal with religion, so I see no reason why you shouldn't post it on here.

Hudson,  I agree with Drew completely.  I view religion as something that is deeply personal and means many different things to different people.  Myself, I don't believe in any organized religion. However, I like to think there is something for us after the end on this earth.  I do not fault anyone for their beliefs, I only fault them if they try to shove them down sombody elses throat.  Religion in a story is simply a facet of that story.  If it becomes a sermon to the reader then I simply close that book and go back to the library.  With that said,  Post your work and some will love it and some will hate it, just like all others.  I will give it a try as lomg as it has a happy ending.

Personally, I love your writing, so I'd be willing (and eager) to read just about anything you write, Hudson. Religious topics don't scare me, so long as they're not pushing an agenda.

Ok, Post it!!!!   I am a sucker for any story that has boys/men and a happy ending.  Life seems to be to mean to many, so a happy ending is hope in writing :heart:.

I'm one of those people who wanted to steal you and Stepping over to GA.  I felt you did a great job representing religion--yes, there is a very vocal negative group within organized religion, but there's also an upside.  You featured both sides of the argument within your tale, and I think readers will enjoy that.

Ha funny you say that! I wanted to target him too.. I lost my nerve and he showed up here.. So yay!
