Chapter 4 is out.

It was late at night, or early in the morning, depending on your point of view. It was 3:30 am, and the house was still. The light from the bathroom was on, the door partially closed, and bathed Rob’s bedroom in a sliver of light and shadow. There was enough shadowy darkness to sleep by, and enough light to keep the demons at bay. Or so Rob hoped. It was a fitful sleep he was in, and a nightmare had gripped him. He tossed and turned, and called out in his sleep.

 

The door opened, and Adam ran in. He was breathing heavy; panting with worry. He sat at the edge of the bed, grabbed Rob’s shoulders, and shook him. “Rob… WAKE UP! Come on, wake up, son! WAKE UP, ROB!”

 

Rob awoke with a start and thrashed around incoherently. In the brief melee, Rob hit Adam in the jaw with his fist. “Settle down son! Calm down… easy now.”

 

Rob panted, “Dad… I… I’m… sorry…”

 

“Shhhh… it’s alright son… relax… deep breaths… yes, like that… a couple more.”

 

Rob did as instructed, rolled away from Adam.

 

“Would you like to talk about it?” Adam rubbed his son’s exposed back, as he sat on the edge of the bed. “Must have been a really bad dream. I was in my room when I heard you across the house.”

 

“I… I… was dreaming of Mom, you, and foster care. How she didn’t tell me she was sick, until right before she spiraled downward. You knew she died of ovarian cancer? Doctors said that it was stage four when they found it. That there wasn’t anything they could do… it was too late. Then my Granny and Gramps didn’t want me, and my Aunt said I should be sterilized and forced into a re-education camp…” Rob’s silent tears left lines that shone in the sliver of light from the bathroom.

 

“Then the beating at the group home… it hurt, so much… worse than when the rebar pinned me in the car. And… and… I came here, but they took me away from you…” He paused as he sniffled. “I don’t know how… but I ended up with a handgun… and I kept saying… ‘It’ll be fine soon, just pull the trigger’… I had the gun pressed against the side of my head… I don’t know where that is coming from.”

 

Adam sat and continued rubbing his son’s back. He was silent as Rob spoke. Holy shit… that was one Hell of a night terror. He’s having thoughts of suicide, and … damn… we really need to get to that shrink today. “Son, I’m here for you. I can understand the pain you’re in. If you think you can wait until morning, when we go see the therapist, we’ll wait. Or if you want to talk to someone now, the hospital has emergency psychologists who man the crisis line of Tampa Bay. They may recommend waiting till later, or they may recommend I take you to a crisis center. Either way, know I love you, and I’ll do whatever it takes to help you.”

You know what's fun. When your two editors. @Kitt and @Mikiesboy both return their edited versions of the doc to you, and each have highlighted the part of the Sauceless Pizza, and said "Yummy." Also, they both mentioned that chapter 5 would get some strong reactions. They were both right! lol

Story Update for fans of My Son. Chapter 6 as previously mentioned is now in the editing process. I've been working on Chapter 7 for the past couple of days, looking at all the loose ends that I need to tie up. Surprisingly, not that many. Chapter 6 is titled "Friends in Low Places," and Chapter 7 is called "Retribution." You may have noticed that chapter titles were a theme for the tone of the chapter itself.

 

Well, when Chapter 7 is published, it will be the end of the first installment. But it will not be the end for the characters themselves. I had only planned to do one chapter, but instead, I've created a family and a storyline I would like to see more of. I'm also planning to combined a couple of other stories into the My Son world. One that is currently published here on GA, and another one that I had sitting on a shelf. Though with that one, I'm going to need to strip out the SciFi elements.

 

Thanks to everyone that has read the story, and for the suggestions. They will be used in Book 2.

Jill Bolton – Doctor who works at Tampa General Hospital, ER attending and Surgeon, mother of Chandon Bolton. 40y/o.

Date of Birth: 06/01/1977

Description: 5’6”, Black Hair, Green Eyes, and Olive Skin color.

 

Chandon Bolton – Student at H. B. Plant HS, GSA Club President. 16y/o.

Date of Birth: 11/25/2001.

Description: 5'9" medium build, with olive skin coloring, hazel eyes, and tight curly black hair. Grecian descendant.

 

Brayon Hopper – Student at H.B. Plant HS, disowned by parents for being gay, lives with Chandon and Jill, is Chandon’s boyfriend. Hockey Player and Baseball Player. 16y/o.

Date of Birth: 11/25/2001

Description: 5'11" with an athletic build, pale skin, green eyes, and red hair. Irish descendant.

Adam Smith – Retired Multi-millionaire, business owner, graduate of M.I.T., Doctorate Degree in Engineering with a concentration in Medicine and Medical. (Double Doctorate). 38y/o

Date of Birth: 2/25/1980.

Description: Adam stood six-foot-two-inches and was built like a lumberjack. Powerful chest and arms, and well-defined legs, brown curly hair, and sea green eyes. Hairy across chest, arms, and legs.

 

Robert Turner – Adam’s son. Student at H.B. Plant HS, was originally from Boston, MA. Was assaulted in foster care in MA. Plays Hockey and Lacrosse. 16y/o.

Date of Birth: 11/25/2001.

Description: Robert was Adam's spitting image. Same hair, and similar build, but was a little shorter at five-foot-ten-inches. He had his mother’s eyes of crystal blue though. Has a nasty looking scare on his left shoulder blade, and a tribal-designed tattoo of a Phoenix in flight on his right shoulder and right side of his chest. The tattoo can be covered by a shirt.

 

Duncan Isen – Adam’s best friend, and later becomes his husband. Stay at home Dad. Has a degree in the culinary arts, and is a skilled chef. Family owns a cleaning business that he has inherited. Bisexual and has an ex-wife named Cheryl. 37y/o.

Date of Birth: 04/10/1981

Description: The man was tall and slender and appeared to be the same age as his father, with a mop of curly black hair and sea green eyes.

 

Giles O’Sullivan – GSA Vice-President at H.B. Plant HS. Hockey Player. Rob’s boyfriend. 16y/o.

Date of Birth: 11/30/2001

Description: He looked to be the same age and height as Rob, with bushy shoulder length dirty blond hair and a copper sun-tan over an athletic frame.

TC3 – A Few Days in the Life of Jeremy Isen

Jeremy Isen – Student at H.B. Plant HS, Photo-journalist, Martial Arts enthusiast, Asexual(?). 15y/o.

Date of Birth: 8/1/2002.

Description: Jeremy stood 5’2”, he hadn’t hit his final growth spurt. He wasn’t fat but had some muscle mass to him from his Jeet Kune Do training. He kept his brown hair cut short, and his brown eyes were always taking in his surroundings.

Have you proof read these descriptions as there are some mistakes 

and the comments don’t make sense?

Robert was born November 2018? I thought that this story is set in the present time? 

Duncan was the same age as his father, huh? 

Robert was whose spitting image?

The rest of the description of Robert is not making sense at the moment. 

I would suggest that you read through everyone’s descriptions as some of them also don’t make sense.

Typo. He was born 11/25/2001, the same day as Brayon and Chandon.

Duncan and Adam are a year apart and were best friends in High School and the BSA. They are not father and son.

Let's relive a scene from last year. The night the Lightning beat the Bruins, to go on to Round Three. Adam loved it, Rob not so much. Duncan loved being there with his two men.
