Newsletter Game: Pride Month Headline!

Sorry guys! With all that's going on this month, I totally forgot to start this. I also decided to keep it here in Games & Forum instead of putting in the Lounge, though it might get more traffic there, it makes more sense here where we've done the other games. So... who's up for some more writing fun? How about a Headline Game?!

 

Happy Gay Pride Month, everyone! How are you celebrating? Does your city do a parade? Special event weekends? Ban celebrations? *boo hiss* Or are you not quite ready for the crowds? Well, how about GA celebrates together with a new game? Very loose rules with this game, just have some fun with it. You're going to google "Gay Pride" and then click on the (News) option. Then DON'T click on the results! All you're going to do is use one of the headlines that catches your eye to create a scenario and write from there. Any length, any genre is fine, but the theme is sort of obvious, lol. You can share your headline in the game topic, talk about your story/writing, but don't do a full reveal to anyone but your editing team so we can all enjoy them later! Fine print: Deadline is June 28th. Post story/chapter unpublished with no date. Send link to Cia via PM. Story release will happen with July 1st newsletter.

I almost went with one called: "Opinion: I have no faith in PRIDE." However, while I liked the headline, I thought it may get too political.

There are a few that caught my eye, but I feared the same thing as you.  I was semi-wary of this one as well, since it doesn't actually reference Pride in the headline, but I think it's a fascinating concept.

That's great! That's really what I'm trying to do with these newsletter challenges, to make writing a game. All too often we get swept up in the demands of writing. This deadline or that deadline, even the self-imposed ones, or the long, serial story plot and characters to remember and write, editing again and again, or even just the expectation that our writing mean something. But, no, sometimes writing can and should just be something that's light and fun. No expectations, no pressure, you do it or don't, you succeed or you don't (and maybe not succeeding is the point?) and you have fellow authors who are doing it with you. 

 

I always say writing is a craft and an art. And sometimes, art should just be about expression. I'm glad you got to express yourself!

Certainly my stories for your games have taken me in all sorts of directions I wouldn't otherwise have taken. I look at it as giving my imagination a workout, or letting it off the leash. My writing would be more monochrome without them.
