Missing Story...?

I'm looking for a story that I once read and would like to again. Problem is I don't know the title or author. Here's what I remember:

 

The main character was a teenage boy who had been in an accident that gave him dysphasia (sp). His conversations were made by using TV ads/shows. In my head he sung everything but that may/may not have been the case. The accident may have involved his mom. And his best guy friend didn't give up on him. 

 

Any help or direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

I have read a story something like that.  You are not alone in wondering about that story. I hoope someone can inform both of us where we might find it.

It's not quite what you've described (Jake's aphasia uses mainly song lyrics) but could it be Dabeagle's Long Day?

You know what's funny about this to me.... Every time I see a thread where someone is looking for an old story, I look. Not because there is a chance I'll remember a story - I can't remember what I had for breakfast. But I always hope it's one of mine. Yay! It's one of mine!
