Sumeru - 12. Chapter 12

BREAKING NEWS — Missing spaceship Shiva coming home after more than five years in space

NASA officials announced today that they received a message from missing spaceship Shiva. The spaceship took off on August 8, 2068, and reached its target, star system X104 in the constellation of Scorpius five months later. After a one-month exploration of the star system, located 25,000 light years from Earth, the spaceship landed on exoplanet X104C7, also called Terra or Earth 2 in the public domain, a rock planet orbiting the sun in the habitable zone and, according to extensive research, a second Earth. NASA received a final message from the ship after touch-down on the planet. Commander Ross reported a successful landing, but then the ship and the crew were never heard of again. Despite intensive analysis of received data and transmissions, NASA was unable to figure out what happened with the ship and the crew. On October 23, 2070, NASA suspended the search until new information was gained. News on the ship got rare thereafter, but the ship and the crew were never forgotten. Several internet blogs kept discussing the incident and news outlets all over the world regularly published a story about the unfortunate fate of the ship and the crew.

NASA said they kept watching and listening into space, although no efforts were made to actively search for the ship. Robert Mead, department head, said it would have been irresponsible and too big a risk to send another ship to the far away star system. Spaceship Shiva could have gone down on the planet, but it could likewise have gone lost on its way back home. “We simply don’t know,” Mr Mead said. “They had a problem with the communication system, but maybe they managed to launch the craft and set course on Earth. They could have gone lost anywhere. 25,000 light years is quite a distance. We simply couldn’t search everywhere in space.”

The incident threw NASA’s space programs back. Many argued that warp technologies were not thoroughly researched and the ship had been sent through half the galaxy with a purely conceived and understood technology. Financial support for the warp program was drastically cut down. NASA concentrated on exploring the solar system instead. The programs focused on investigating space in front of the door.

NASA did not officially elaborate on the message they received from the ship today, but Mr Mead said to our reporter that they had received a message from Commander Ross and not an automated ship transmission that had been sent off by the ship’s computer. The message was short. Mr Mead said that Commander Ross’s messages were always precise and to the point. According to Mr Mead, Commander Ross transmitted: ‘Commander John Ross on spaceship Shiva. Ground control Earth, do you hear me? We’re coming home.’ Mr Mead said the message was transmitted from the edge of the solar system after the ship had dropped back into real space. The arrival time at Earth is unclear as yet. NASA needs more data for exact flight calculations. According to Mr Mead, it should, however, be only a matter of days for the ship to arrive at Earth.

Greetings from Sumeru

The day had been long. John sat down on his bed. His head was spinning. The speech of the president, the talks with people, shaking hands, hands patting on his shoulder, questions and answers, so many questions asked, so many answers not given. Some answers would never get out. They had trained their brains. For the greater good. The time was not ripe for the truth.

John sighed. He didn’t feel he lied when he told a lie. He was entirely aware of what he said and he was able to make his own judgment. He wasn’t brainwashed. They had not changed his brain, just had prompted it to tell a couple of lies in answer to possibly dangerous questions. He had complied with the treatment. The others had too. Safety first. The time was not ripe for the truth.

They had not changed his memory or added or deleted anything. John remembered everything and he knew it was true. It was hard to explain. He felt a bit as if he had two brains in his head. Two brains that worked together and actually worked quite good.

The aliens had let them go, had even helped them with the trip. They had transported the ship to the edge of the solar system and had activated a different time thread. They had transported the ship almost six years into the future. The time difference could be explained by time dilation. Earth scientists had claimed their warp drive was able to negate the effect of time dilation. Now they analyzed if their calculations were wrong or if the entire time dilation concept wasn’t correct.

John lay back on his bed. He was in a single hotel room, a hotel suite, a very luxurious hotel. He had practically one floor to himself. Security was in the corridors. He wondered if he was being monitored. Not that it bothered him much. After hours of meetings and talks with the president and many more famous and important persons, he was meanwhile used to security watching each of his steps. He had gotten used to the monitoring activities on Sumeru and it had not been difficult to adapt to Earth’s.

Sumeru. The Asuras, the Devas, Azrael, Tamiel, Naamah. John guessed he would never see them again. His head was spinning. He was wide awake. He was certain he would never go to sleep, but then he drifted off and dreamed of an hour-glass shaped space base that was spinning in space.

Someone, Naamah, said in a clear voice: “Congratulations on the successful flight. A perfect landing. Well done, commander. Best wishes from Sumeru.” John looked out of the cockpit window. Spaceship Shiva was passing by the hourglass-shaped space base Sumeru. “Thank you, Naamah. Greeting to your friends,” John said in his dream, and then checked on the ship’s communication system and sent a message to ground control Earth.

John turned in his sleep.

From the Indragatha:

And the gods assembled in their great hall
A council was held on Sumeru
And the gods said: Let’s invite the hero
And praise his great deed in the hall

And all the gods cheered: So be it!
Let’s take Shiva to the home of the gods
Where the light of wisdom shines
And forever lightens the dark

And they asked Shiva to enter his ship
And set out from Earth to Sumeru
They told him to sail his ship with care
To not get lost in the void of the dark

And when Shiva arrived at Mount Meru
He was stunned by the beauty of it
In the center of the world there was
The dwelling of the shining gods

And the gods assembled in their great hall
And they cheered on the hero Shiva
Great was your deed! Triple City fell!
And Shiva bowed to the seat of the gods

NASA Internal Paper, May 27, 2074

First analysis of the ship’s data and interrogation of the crew points to an unexplained warp effect upon initiation of the warp drive.

Spaceship Shiva took off from exoplanet X104C7 and proceeded to orbit. No problems occurred during the launch. The ship set course on the edge of the star system X104 and, according to data analysis and crew reports, reached the edge in the calculated flight time. No failures occurred.

The warp drive was initiated after leaving the star system. The data show that a failure occurred and the crew reported they sensed a vibration that the men found hard to explain. We must conclude that the warp drive suffered a malfunction and time dilation occurred as a result. The computer clocks, however, continued to work properly and showed the previous time and date. The crew learned of the time dilation effect only when communicating with ground control after establishing contact upon entering the solar system.

The effect must be carefully studied. Warp technologies should not be used until the effect can be explained in full detail.

The warp effect had no serious effect on the crew. The men report a sense of time flowing fast and slow at the same time, but otherwise they show no impairments. The men will undergo careful medical and psychological examinations, of course.

First analysis of the ship’s data confirmed that debris from a broken up planet orbits the sun of star system X104. There is no Dyson ring around the sun. The data confirms, however, that exoplanet X104C7 is an earth-like planet in the habitable zone of the star. The crew detected life forms on the planet, plants and a small animal. They found, however, no traces of an extraterrestrial civilization.

Exoplanet X104C7 may remain a possible target for future space missions. As long as warp technology is not a safe technology, further space trips to the exoplanet are canceled. The exoplanet is located 25,000 light years from Earth, too far away to perform space trips with a technology that is in its earliest stage.

NASA will concentrate on the Alpha Centauri system in the coming years. The system, roughly four light years from Earth, is a promising target for further space missions and research.

The truth is out there!          image

Hey folks,

We’ve discussed spaceship Shiva, its unexpected return and the mystery trip for a couple of months now. I personally think this is a cover-up of some sort. We sure can go on discussing the topic, but I thought, for once, I’ll post something different, an article I had written a long time ago but have never found the time to publish. It’s about the Hollow Moon Theory.

The Hollow Moon Theory proposes that Earth's Moon is either totally hollow or otherwise contains a substantial interior space. Hades in Greek mythology and other early religious concepts of an underworld, such as the Christian Hell, contributed to the ideas of the Earth being hollow and supported the Hollow Moon Theory.

The Moon is less dense than the Earth and this is taken as evidence for the Moon to be hollow. The moon's mean density is 3.3 gm/cm3, whereas the Earth's is 5.5. In 1970, Michael Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov stated that the Moon was a spaceship created by unknown beings. Their hypothesis is based on large lunar craters, generally assumed to be formed from a meteor impact, that have flat or even convex bottoms and are generally too shallow. Vasin and Shcherbakov stated that the moon was a natural space body that had been converted into an artificial structure by alien engineers who melted the original solid core, deposited the molten lava on the lunar surface, and created an inner lunar space protected by an artificial shell below the outer shell that we know as the lunar surface. The aliens then placed the gigantic object in orbit around the Earth for reasons that we can only speculate about. Vasin and Shcherbakov say that the moon consists of a natural rocky outer layer that is only about five miles thick and an inner shell that is up to twenty miles thick. Below the inner shell is a cavity that could contain an atmosphere to support alien life.

Seismometers on the Moon recorded moonquakes between 1972 and 1977. The Moon was described as ‘ringing like a bell’ during some of these quakes, especifically the shallow ones. In 1969 the Apollo 12 astronauts sent their Lunar Module crashing into the Moon after returning to the command craft. The module struck with a force of one ton of TNT. The shock waves built up to a peak in eight minutes and continued for nearly an hour. The information gained from studying the artificial moonquakes led to reconsideration of the previous theories about the lunar interior. The rapid build-up to the peak and the prolonged reverberations were puzzling because nothing of the like happens when an object hits the Earth.

The debate about the origin of the moon goes on and proponents of the Hollow Moon Theory say that a natural origin is hard to explain. They say that much points to an artificial and alien technological origin. The claim is supported by ufologists who say that UFO fleets were sighted over the moon and these sightings point to a massive underground hangar for spacecraft in the moon.

What do you think, folks? Was the moon built by an alien civilization with science and technology much more advanced than ours? Is the moon a hollowed-out artificial structure containing an underground base serving also as the interior of a gigantic UFO spaceship? Does an alien space base orbit the Earth?

Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers

The truth is out there!

The Asuras

“How about we start all over again?” Naamah asked.

He reached out his hand and Azrael took it.

“We said it was a war between Asuras and Devas and the humans played no role in it. We have not changed our view to the present day and this is why the war has never really ended. We should have taken more interest in the humans. Instead we wanted to rule over them. Asuras wanted dominion, rule over the humans as kings. And the Devas wanted to teach them, rule over the knowledge the humans gained, but this is just another form of dominion. And now the humans came to Sumeru to change our views and ways,” Naamah said.

“The cosmos is bigger than any civilization. The cosmos rules all our ways,” Azrael said.

“We must rethink the concept of sending a teacher to a young civilization,” Naamah said. “It worked in the early days, but it won’t work with an advanced civilization.”

“Yes,” Azrael said. “We must listen to the cosmos. The cosmos is our teacher after all.”

“The ways of the world have changed. We must strike a new path,” Naamah said.

“We can only learn by experience. The way is the goal, after all, but sometimes walking is hard,” Azrael said with a smirk.

“Sounds like a simple thing to do,” Naamah said. “How about we log in to the archives and edit the records so that Asuras history will finally fit the truth?”

Azrael nodded. “We can do this for a start,” he said.

From the Indragatha:

And this asked Shiva before he left Sumeru: What is truth, father?

And his father said: Truth is an element of nature. Imagine you stand on a cliff in a storm. Below is the ocean, the heavy waves rolling on the shore, crashing on the shore like thunder. Above, lightning is parting the sky, dark, heavy clouds are piling up, and the thunder above is competing with the raging waters’ roar and thunder. Such is truth, a raw energy questioning your very existence. Humans have cultured the lands and mastered the seas. They think they rule over nature. Until they face the rawness of nature. Mind you, only few dare to face the wilderness, the unhewn, uncultured soul of nature. Seafarers are among them. Many set out into the unknown, but few come back and many are lost on their journey.”

Shiva asked: Will I come back to Sumeru?

His father said: You sailed the seas of heaven and you safely came into port. You will return to Sumeru, because, my son, you are a god.

Rob

Rob finished his article on Indian philosophies:
Worship of such devas is considered as mithyatva or wrong belief leading to bondage of karmas. Mithyatva is an important concept on false knowledge in Jainism. The state of wrong belief is manifested as a fundamental tendency to see things other than as they really are. Mithyatva is the one-sided or perverted world-view. The Jaina scholar Hemachandra defined mithyatva as belief in false divinities, false gurus and false scriptures. He decries the worship of devas:
“These heavenly beings tainted with attachment and passion; having women and weapons by their side, favor some and disfavor some; Such heavenly beings should not be worshipped by those who desire emancipation.”
Jainism believes that the universe and all its substances or entities are eternal. The universe has no beginning or end with respect to time. The universe runs on its own accord and by its own cosmic laws. All substances change their forms continuously and nothing can be destroyed or created in the universe. There is no need of someone to create or manage the affairs of the universe. There is no almighty god, no creator, survivor and destroyer of worlds.

Tamiel

Tamiel started his new book on Asuras history:
The Asuras were often described in ancient texts as malevolent beings who compete for power with the more benevolent Devas. The hostility between the two parties is the source of extensive legends, tales and literature. The Garadagatha, the Songs of Fate, for instance, are commonly referred to as the songs of the fallen gods. The imprisoned Asuras became the Lords of the Vault. Negative connotations are associated with the Asuras to the present day. However, there are more sides to every story and to every truth.
Anekāntavāda, many-sidedness, the ancient Asuras Jain Doctrine of Non-Absolutism, refers to the principles of pluralism and multiplicity of viewpoints, the notion that reality is perceived differently from diverse points of view, and that no single point of view is the complete truth, yet taken together they comprise the complete truth.

James

James could still hear the chirping of the tiny bird-like creatures. Thick bushes and trees with weird huge leaves and colored blossoms seamed the ancient alien runway. The sun was up. It was hot and the air was humid and smelled of decay. It was the typical feel and smell of the tropics. James looked at the yellow feather on his palm.

“This world is real,” he said.

THE END

WOW, the End???; I was just really getting into this story.  I had it so plotted out in the head where I thought the next few chapters were going to take us; tears and lamentations.  I really enjoyed this story and hope that you decide to do a book two or three to it...

Thank you :) How about you write your own story? Plotted chapters in our heads, that's what authors dream of. Jump another 30 years into the future, imagine your own characters and write down all that is in your head. The beginning and the ending of the story will come to you while you plunge into your own adventure. Good luck, if you decide to so. I'd certainly be curious to read your plot. Thanks again for reading and commenting.

I have to say that I agree with the others. It feels like there is more but it also was the end of the beginning. How all parties go on from now is the next part of the story. I enjoyed this very much. :great:

I really enjoyed this story. To me it was complete. I have no desire to read a sequel. I could stand to read further adventures of any of the main characters. I just think this tale was complete and a complete joy to read.

I found it interesting that for a large part of the story, I tried to determine who was good and who was evil. Of course I sided with the Kians against all other factions. Even near the end I was still trying to identify someone as less good or at least who was totally self-serving. I failed to even seriously dislike the Sumeru security forces. Although, I did manage to maintain a severe dislike for conspiracy theory bloggers. To me they often feed on ignorance, bigotry, distrust and hate. Besides, I worry they might just stumble upon the real truth of which only a select few of us are fully aware. Bwa, ha, ha.....

If the Cosmos conciously deems to interfere, isn't that a form of benevolent domination. Like letting a child run around with a complete sense of freedom in the yard but but restricted when he/she heads into the street. I am not saying that children should be allowed to play in the street anymore than sentient species should be allowed to destroy themselves or other sentient species. I'm just saying, being controlled by an unseen, benevelent force is still being controlled.

I will continue to enjoy my threatened, albeit, at the best of times, false sense of freedom until the cosmos brings around the next election cycle.

In this story there is hope beyond all reason and beyond all dieties. Thanks for that kind of "feel good" ending.

Many thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I'm happy you enjoyed the story. I spent a lot of time thinking about truth. What is truth? Is there an ultimate truth? Can it be found? Should it be revealed? Etc. I wrote a science fiction story in the end. People set out to find the truth and don't find what they expected to find. There are many truths. And sometimes a truth is just a belief.
