timmy's poetry - 59. Chapter 59 Space

Here are three space themed poems.

Is there enough room here?

Can you turn around?

Everywhere there are people

There’s no aloneness in these crowds

We left our ravaged world behind and we knew we’d never hear

If our Earth would survive.

Would the ones that we hold dear?

We move through time and space, at speeds we cannot comprehend

Looking for a place for roots, a new beginning with no end.

Though we are together in this, we are still each of us alone

Ahead of us is a life of new chances; it’s a future unknown

In the days before our ten year sleep, I gaze out of my windows

Everything is so clear, in the crisp coldness of the cosmos

Right now we are earthbound

Though our voices will soon resound

As we escape our earthly binding

And we travel to worlds new found

Behind us the Earth is blurring

You, my love are now a groundling

I’m far from your embraces

Life is difficult knowing you’re waiting

Soon we’ll enter our long kept comas

We will dream of summer and cool grasses

Our time together has now flown

But I will forever feel your last kisses

Space is a void full of the unknown

We hurtle through it with no touchstone

It’s overwhelming now, the heartache

I feel so terribly alone

Today we were brought awake

We know there is no mistake

It’s time to begin our review

We will leave the ship at daybreak

I shouldn’t think so often about you

So final was our sad adieu

But the future and my duty

Will make our sacrifice of value

Our first steps we will make boldly

Old mistakes we accept gravely

There is no turning back from this

This responsibility we take humbly

Farewell now, you who I miss

Always I will treasure your final kiss

Life here, we will make right

And of you, one day, I’ll no longer reminisce.

very nice, tim!

the middle two lines of the first one...well i hate crowds, they are my kryptonite, i can feel the press of many bodies, and can hear the din of all those voices, makes me shudder a bit

the second one could be the opening sequence of a space movie, the lonely space explorer, looking out the window, the camera pans out and there are more people but

Though we are together in this, we are still each of us alone

Ahead of us is a life of new chances; it’s a future unknown

and the third one, what a choice to have to make, to go to a new place, but leave a loved one behind!

that last stanza is just heartbreaking!  especially the last line....

Farewell now, you who I miss

Always I will treasure your final kiss

Life here, we will make right

And of you, one day, I’ll no longer reminisce.

nicely done!

(full disclosure....yes, i'm tim's beta reader, but i did not see these before he posted them here.)

Thanks molly ... i appreciate it.  glad you enjoyed them,  i am both sorry and glad that the first one gave you the creeps.

Duty, love,  loneliness, adventure, new worlds and old and overcrowding. All these make for three wonderful poems. Well done, boy.

Three lovely poems tim. I like that they lean into each other. Variations on a theme.

Very well done...

An interesting departure from your usual work and yet not so different. The space theme is a change but the way you embrace is very much tim. Love, longing, separation are common threads among the cloth you weave. Nicely done.

you did an excellent job stepping out of your comfort zone to compose poems about what lies out there in the universe, as opposed to man's struggles here on earth. And yet, these poems evoke some of those same struggles: fighting for survival, fighting for something to call your own, fighting for love, seeking something brighter in the world than what we've been given. Despair and hope. Loss and gain. Great poems, tim.

(On a side note, I happened to be listening to this song when I read these poems, and it was extremely apropos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJD1pV5JKng.)
