Songs of the Heart - 13. Chapter 13 - it's Your Love
It had been a year since that awful night, a night that to this day I still had nightmares about. How close things came to a bad ending at the hands of an evil man. Of course last year's festival was canceled, but some anonymous donor had sent the city a check for a million dollars. The town was a buzz this year for the festival, where I was nervous to the point of puking.
It had been a long year for me filled with rehab, apologies, pain and most of all love and happiness. My father’s bullet had gone through my shoulder, if the agents hadn’t arrived when they had I would've lost my life. I still fought with momentary weakness in my left arm. I wonder if my father knew how close he came to ending me. Nessay won’t tell me much about what was said after I passed out from pain.
Jeremy, the agent I entrusted Nessay to, survived as well. To our knowledge he was at his home in Houston regrouping. Odin had told us about his company, about how Defender was a private security firm that specialized and contracted with the government for missions it didn’t want recorded. My father should be so lucky, Odin himself was hours away from putting him down with a bullet just for abusing children. Nessay’s and Odin’s friendship had taken a while to rebuild, but with Ty’s help their were going as strong as they were before. Only thing we now worried about when he was sent away on assignment, we were looking forward to the day he retired from the field. I think I had a certain band mate that was looking forward to that as well.
Ty and Jared had only grown closer, though they still refused to admit they were in a serious relationship. Both had long ago stopped going out with anyone else, and more often than not when we're in town Jared could be found sleeping in Ty’s bed. I really had enjoyed getting to know the smaller bundle of energy. I understood completely why Nessay had found him such a great friend.
Our band was doing wonderfully, as was the bar. Thankfully Nessay had hired a new manager and decided to travel with the band. Nothing beat performing in front of a crowd then spending the night in the arms of my love. We had been touring for the last couple months, and our songs were even more popular. I had a very blessed and very fulfilled life, there was only one thing that would it better and that would happen tonight at the festival.

“You guys have been so amazing tonight, we can’t thank you enough for all of your love and support!”
The festival had always been well attended, but the numbers were only in the low thousands at most. With everything that happened last fall, our tickets skyrocketed for this year. We had to move it to a field outside of town. Now it looked like a huge Woodstock-like concert.
“Now ladies and gent we only have a couple more songs for you tonight than we will be heading back out onto the road. Before we start the next song I wanna bring out someone important to me. Let me all introduce you to Nessay Rodriguez my boyfriend!”
The crowd went wild with clapping and cheers as my boyfriend made his way onto the stage. It was funny watching him shuffle his feet, I mean he tended bar in front of several people but he was almost stuck in place by being in front of a crowd like this. Though he had gotten a lot better since we started to work on doing this duet together.
“We have a special treat for all of you so we hope you enjoy it!”
The opening beats of our song began to play, I let my eyes find his and the music flow through me. Taking a big breathe, I opened up and let my love flow from me.

Watching Nessay as he took a big breath like I did and let his beautiful voice join mine. Hands were up everywhere in the crowd swaying side to side with the song.

My Nessay was an amazing man, especially since I knew my idea of a duet had scared the crap out of him. I am hoping the fans reactions would encourage him to sing more.

We let the closing beats of the song play as I came a few steps across the stage and grabbed his hands into my mine. Leaning down I steal a quick kiss, chuckling as his cheeks inflame. Now for the big surprise, here goes nothing.
“Now all I have surprise for my boyfriend and I hope you all enjoy it! Hopefully I get the answer that we want at the end!”
The band slowly began to transition into the surprise song. They had given me tons of grief over how much I had made them practice this, but this had to be perfect. I couldn’t risk it being anything less.

It was at this point I slowly dropped to a knee, staring straight into Nessay’s eyes letting him see my love. I could see tears and surprise in his eyes.

The boys let the music fade softly, as I reached into my pocket and pulled out a soft velvet box. Inside was a plain black hills silver ring. On the inside of the ring, was the inscripition, “love for all of eternity” Taking a deep breathe, I locked my eyes onto his. Popping the box lid I showed Nessay the ring. ]
“Nessay Juan Rodriguez will you marry me?”
A quick nod yes then I was tackled backwards with kisses being planted all over my face. I could hear the crowd cheering and my band mates laughing. Fireworks began to go off far above our heads signaling the end of the festival, and the beginning of a new life for the both of us.

“Guards were doing a routine check when they noticed his cell was empty, he is believed to be armed and dangerous. If you see this man please contact 911 immediately and do not confront him!”
