GA Writing Prompts - 72. Magical Holiday

Magical Holiday

I heard a noise and looked around, but the hallway was empty. I had no idea who had placed the box in the corridor. I carried the present into the kitchen where I was baking cookies for Christmas. The box shook in my hands. I heard another sound, definitely coming from the box. There was something inside. I unwrapped the box and opened it and then stared at a tiny creature, distrusting my eyes. The being spread its wings and flew out of the box and around in the kitchen and finally sat down near a plate with cookies.

“Can I have this cookie, please?” the tiny being asked, pointing with a tiny finger at a cutout cookie formed like a heart.

I nodded automatically. “Sure,” I said as if this was the most normal thing in the world.

The being seized the cookie and took a bite. The cookie looked big in its tiny hands. I wiped my forehead and for a moment closed my eyes. Pre-Christmas stress. I was hallucinating. The image, however, didn’t disappear. The being took another bite. I sat down in a chair and stared at the creature. It was about the size of my hand. Body, head and limps were little but well-proportioned. It was dressed in green trousers and shirt. Golden hair framed its face and it looked at me from tiny blue eyes.

“It tastes good,” the little creature said with a smile.

I smiled in return and gave a nod. The creature placed the cookie on the plate, spread its wings and flew up in the air. It waved goodbye and then flew out of the kitchen into the corridor. I looked at the cookie and saw the marks that the tiny teeth had left. No hallucinations. No symptoms of pre-Christmas stress. A tiny fairy had come out of the box with no name on it but a gift tag saying:

I loved it.  You are very good at giving a lot of information in few words.  I"d have been questioning my sanity too.  Merry Christmas!

All I can say is more. Curious as to who would leave a fairy in a box? Where did he go? Interesting twist on a tired holiday tradition of cookie baking. Nice job Dolores.

Well done! I’d make a suggestion? Sure that you aren’t aware. The image at the end is not labeled for your blind readers. Add a description of image in chapter notes. Not sure what it says. Merry Christmas.

Hmm, now I wonder if the fairy was in the box voluntarily or not, and who would leave a gift like this. And will the fairy make a home now it's been offered food ? Sort of a reverse don't eat in the court of fairy thing.

 freepik     You don't wanna know what Danes would interpret this as. :lmao:
