Eloquence From the Heart - 6. Heartbreak

title a work in progress, been trying to figure out a fitting title for a while. Edit: just a quick update. This was written many years ago after someone I thought had loved me cheated on be behind my back. I just finally had the courage and the peace of heart to read it without crying, and knew it was time to share this with others.

I stare out into the rain

Arms open to embrace the wind

As the moisture touches my face

It mixes with tears for what had been

As I think of days long gone

I remember the happier times

The strength of your arms holding on

And the taste of your lips on mine

But the tears that now grace my cheek

Are the tears that you placed here

Through the torture, past the pain

You remain in memories that I hold dear

My heart is still in your iron grip

You hold my soul with claws of steel

And with each beat of an aching heart

I wonder if your love was real

For how could a love that felt so right

Have gone so wrong so fast

Now I must try my hardest

To erase you from my past.

But your touch made me wild

And your kiss drove me insane

I know deep down because of this

My heart can never love the same

So as I stare into the night

And watch the sun grace the skies

I let go of the pain from my past

Allowing newfound freedom to rise

Thank you for sharing this. It is deeply felt, utterly genuine. It is a grief that someone caused you pain. As @dughlas said, you help us see past the wall of hurt into a better place. And I completely agree with @Mikiesboy : do join Live-Poets as a great place to share and comment. Thanks again.

The emotions portrayed in this poem were very powerful that I can see what is happening. From the very first paragraph I see a woman embracing the sadness by mixing her tears with the rain. Heart broken. Yet never wanted to show the pain. And in the very last stanza I see the same Woman who is confident to let go of the past with the setting sun. Very beautiful and vivid images. Even though some reflecting the sadness and some confusion and some realisation and finally bravery. I can totally understand this feeling, Heartbreak. Such nice poem. :hug:

I think many of us can relate to this, Wings. It progresses wonderfully, and is beautifully phrased. I'm not surprised it received acclaim. Cheers... Gary....
