tim's Bits and Pieces - 5. Death: A Poet's Perception

I catch myself wondering

Will my pain ever end?

My body hurts and I am slowed

Neither pills nor cream have enough magic

Rest is no remedy, and I force myself up

Because to stop, is to die

And though it has tried many times

I find I am not ready for Death's embrace

Though there are times

When letting go would be welcome

Death we're told is dire and dark

A demon in black vestments

Would he be any more welcoming

If Death came to us in pink tulle and roses?

Green is the world after cool rain

In the cemetery too, trees are verdant

Each day I pass it, when I come from work

The cold wet stones hold glistening names

Of those who lie there in final repose

I wonder

Who, in life, were you?

Beneath your marker what remains?

Will I find your footprints on the world?

If not, what is life? More, why is it?

I prefer to visualize Death as Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black. Because he's far prettier than the grim reaper.

You know that I believe in an existence beyond this mortal coil. That doesn't mean I welcome death, my own or others but it gives me comfort.

I am saddened that you live with pain understanding some of your ordeal.

You are human tim, we think, sometimes too much. Be content there are many of us that have been gifted with the beauty of your soul. That is the what and the why. Not a prefect answer but than none of us is. Still ... Namasté little brother.

Good night tim....you know the rest

Edit: I considered it, but I decided to let my comment stand as it is. I meant what I said, and you know what I think of your poetic gems, so I don’t think I need to put it in words. ;)

:)  i'm good with that Reader, thanks... xoxo

Interesting topic choice, tim. Well written, but I know your mind. Death dressed in pink tulle? Does his scythe have a bow?  Seriously, I know this is on your mind a lot. You want to know what comes after...people hope and guess, but no one knows. Try to stop thinking about it boy. xo

i can try, Sir.  it's just something i've thought about for so many years...  xo

I swear to all the gods, and powers that be, that some days you're like laser focused directly into my noggin. Time for me to get a med adjustment, because old man Death on his pale horse was heavily in my thoughts today.

Fantastic poems, they were well written, and I saw the visuals you painted with your words.

well get to your doc then A!  dont mess around with that crap.... xoxo  and thank you!

I read this hours ago and had to process. You hit so close to home with pain and meds. Even the best days sometimes aren’t that great. It can be a prison, the pills a reminder, the pain a reminder, and the memories of what we used to be always a reminder.

If you’re writing this now, I know it’s hitting hard. Sending you hugs. Tomorrow is a promise of a happier day. Never stop believing. ❤️

i'm not depressed, jp.  death has been a constant in my thoughts since i was 15 .. can't seem to change that.  Thanks for reading and for caring.. xoxo

The answer to No. 2 is yes; the reaper coming at me in pink tulle and roses would be far scarier than in regular old black *shudders*

Yeah the pain i mention is physical, not mental. i try to be content, dugh ... but i'm not. there is too much wrong in the world for me to be content.  i know i cannot fix it, but i don't understand how people can just watch it, or read it and think it's okay. i also don't understand, how people think/are sure there is more.  believing in this 'more' after life seems to give them the freedom to hurt others freely because they are sure they'll get another chance at life?

as  far as i am concerned we get one ... and too many of us waste it fighting, or hurting others... when we should allow everyone to live the only life they've got.

Yours was an interesting look at what can be an unnerving topic. I chuckled at death in pink tulle, and I liked the comment about Brad Pitt. Maybe pi k would make death less fearsome.
