Still You Want Me - 3. Chapter 3 - Date Night

* * COLIN * *

It’s date night. Until tonight, this hasn’t been a recurring theme in my life, but it’s happening, regardless.

Oh, my god. Okay, it’s happening.

I can’t help but smile. If Charlie were here, he’d understand the reference. Imagining Michael Scott running around the office in a panic during a fake fire is cracking me up, it so closely represents my life right now. I mean, I don’t normally spend a lot of time on appearance, but I’ve been pacing like a madman, my bed is full of clothes that haven’t made the cut and I’m still standing in my boxers.

I finally settle on a pair of tight dark-grey jeans, black V-neck, and a dark, olive-green sweater.

Honestly? I still don’t feel good about it. I stare at myself in the mirror. Nondescript, that’s what I see staring back. I run gel through my thick brown hair, hoping it won’t get out of control later. I adjust my shirt and sweater, trying hard to make everything’s presentable.

Shit. I almost forgot deodorant, again. Get it together, Colin.

Since I don’t live far from the restaurant and I don’t want to pay for parking, I grab a blazer and decide to walk.

Dating hasn’t been a wildly successful adventure for me in the past, so I’m feeling very nervous. I know the fresh air, and a few minutes alone, will be beneficial to my mental health.

Portland is beautiful in the evenings. I love the hustle and bustle of downtown and all of the different people coexisting so close together. The weather is cool and dry, making the walk enjoyable and helping to keep clammy hands and sweaty armpits at bay.

I reach the lobby a few minutes early. I don’t want to be one of those people who plays on their phone all of the time, so I decide to read the fliers hanging on the bulletin boards in the lobby.

That’s what I’m doing when I sense someone is approaching me. I turn around and I’m instantly paralyzed. Standing before me is every gay man’s walking wet dream.

Everything about him is bigger than me: he’s a few inches taller; he has beautiful, wide shoulders; arms that are sculpted with precision; blonde hair; blue eyes; and perfect teeth. His navy sweater is deliciously tight and shows off his tapered waist.

Oh, the fantasies.

I’m going to have his babies.

“Wow, you’re beautiful.”

Oh, god. I can’t believe I said that to him. Wait, I didn’t say it. He said it to me. That’s an interesting turn of events.

“I’m sorry, Colin, that was inappropriate. I wasn’t expecting...this.” He gestures to all of me and I laugh.

I laugh awkwardly. “I think you’re delirious with hunger. I should get you upstairs before I have to throw you back.” I nod for him to lead the way to the elevator. I notice his small waist leads to a perfect, muscular ass and thighs.

Oh, so many inappropriate thoughts.

The elevator’s full of people so we don’t say much. We do, however, share a lot of goofy smiles and quick glances which make me feel giddy and nervous. At least he isn’t looking at me as if he’s regretting this blind date. As we approach the hostess, Jesse and I each hold two fingers up and speak to her simultaneously.

“Two for Kroft.”

“Two for Clarke.”

His blue eyes are sparkling with laughter and the hostess laughs with us.

“What you guys did is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week. I can honestly say I’ve never had this happen. Which is it? Two for Kroft or Clarke?”

Jesse doesn't miss a beat. “How about one of each?”

I smile. He’s cute and funny. She walks us to a window table. This view will never get old and Jesse is surprised.

“Wow.” He stares at the panoramic view of the city. “This is incredible. How have I never eaten here before? I don’t care what the food’s like, this view is amazing.”

His blonde hair looks freshly cut, short on the sides, but longer on top. He has it styled back and it looks amazing, I imagine his morning bedhead is incredibly sexy. I could stare at him all night, but I don’t think it’d be appropriate, so I try to start a conversation with him as it’ll be less awkward.

“Tell me about yourself.”

He looks at me with his sultry narrow blue eyes. “Oh, man. That’s such a loaded question. Think about it, there are no parameters to guide me. I could talk about anything. I could start with something normal, such as my birthdays, or talk for hours about the way the cut on my leg healed, or tell you about every hangnail I’ve ever had. You need to give me some direction here.” His lip curls, revealing a mischievous side. He’s smart, funny, and he just broke the ice.

“You’re right, I’ve never thought about it like that. Let’s start with the generics: college, job, family, and three things you’re looking forward to during the next year.”

Our waiter arrives, explains the specials, and takes our order.

“Okay. College, job, family, and three things I’m looking forward to…” He think carefully for a moment. “I’m from Seattle so I stayed in state and went to the University of Washington. I majored in business, with a minor in public relations. After graduating, I obtained a great job with Nike. I help make Nike look awesome by giving away money, goods, and services. I also plan lots of events for Nike and I get to meet amazing people. Those are all things I love to do anyway, but now I’m getting paid for doing it. My family. Well, my parents are Joe and Jackie Kroft. I have three older sisters (Jill, Jamie, and Jane), and two younger sisters (Joy and Jenna).”

I don’t know what expression my face has, but he notices it and laughs.

“Yeah, I know. Try living it. It wasn’t easy, but now that we’re older, it’s a lot more fun. My parents were very busy, if you know what I mean. I’m twenty-seven, my oldest sister is thirty-one, and my youngest sister is twenty-three. The J thing is ridiculous. I’ll never do that to my kids,” he laughs.

“That’s insane, I can’t even image…”

He throws his hand up, cutting me off. “I haven’t finished, yet. You have to wait your turn.”

He’s teasing me and I like it.

“Three things I’m looking forward to. Well, this fall, I’m going to Brazil for two weeks, the next season of This Is Us should be a real tear jerker, and don’t judge me, but this date with you.” I think he’s being sincere, which makes my skin flush. Thank God I have my mom's Greek genes and not my dad’s pale-white complexion. He’s crossing his arms with his elbows on the table, leaning slightly forward, and is completely focused on me. “And you?”

“I grew up here, in Portland, but I went to Columbia University on the East Coast. I have a master’s in both business and marketing and a minor in accounting. I’m an associate in the marketing department at Clark-Co.”

He rolls his eyes. Obviously, Colin.

“I love marketing because there’s so much strategy involved and so many ways to think outside of the box. Nothing is impossible. Things change so fast, we constantly need to adapt and I love that challenge. My parents live here in Portland, obviously. I have no siblings, so having six kids is something I can’t wrap my brain around. To be honest, I’m a little jealous because, during most of my childhood, I’d wished I had siblings.” I sip my water without breaking eye contact. He’s so attractive I don’t want to look away. “Three things I’m looking forward too…”

Suddenly, I feel a hand squeeze my shoulder.

“Hey.”

I look up and see Charles hovering over me, flanked by another blonde who’d be considered a twink. I’m not expecting to run into anyone I know while on a blind date. There’s something awkward about introducing your blind date to your friends. What if the date doesn’t work out? I’d rather crash and burn and not get asked about it on Monday. I introduce them anyway because I don’t have a choice.

Charles introduces me to Ryan, who works on the same floor as we do, but in a different department. At first, I think they might be on a date, but it turns out Ryan has a boyfriend that will most likely be meeting them soon.

Besides saying hello to Jesse and introducing Ryan and I, Charles doesn’t say a whole lot. He mainly observes us and is quick to leave when they realize their hostess is waiting for them. It’s for the best because I don’t want my blind date to turn into a group thing.

I want him for myself.

“Sorry, about that, Jesse. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to see anyone I know.”

He assures me it’s no big deal. The rest of the evening is easy. Conversation is light and fun, dinner is delicious and the view is amazing.

Portland looks good, too.

The bill comes and I’m not sure how to proceed. We both made reservations which means we both intended to pay for dinner. I figure I should be direct.

“How do you want to do this?”

“Am I wrong to assume we were both planning on paying for dinner?”

I nod in agreement while smiling at the situation.

“Well, I was thinking. Maybe you could pay for tonight?”

“Absolutely,” I say, not opposed to paying but worried it could be come a habit.

“It’s just, well, I’d really like to go out with you, again.” Omg, He’s nervous. “I thought, if you know I’m going to pay next time, you’ll feel more inspired to agree to a second date?” He smiles, but it’s obvious he’s worried I might say no.

Me, say no to him? Ha.

“I’d go on a second date with you even if you didn’t pay.” I instantly regret saying that. For one, it makes me look desperate. Also, I don’t want to open the door to any thought of me being okay with always paying. I’m super frustrated with myself.

He exhales the breath he’s been holding and smiles. “Oh, good. If there’s any dates after next time, we can trade off. I like to keep things on a level playing field, if that’s okay?”

Yes. One hundred times, yes.

With that cleared up, I pay the bill. The night is young, it’s only eight o’clock, and I don’t want to go home, yet. It’s been a while since I’ve been out for pleasure and I’m enjoying my time with Jesse.

“Are you in a hurry to get home?”

He raises his brow. “It depends on where you’re going with this.”

“I’d like to go dancing.”

“Hell, yes. Do you have a specific place in mind?” He doesn’t hold back his excitement, which instantly fills me with joy.

“Yes and no.” He laughs before I continue. “There’s a club down the street. I think tonight’s theme is Throwback Bump N Grind. It’s stupid, I know, but I love dancing and I love throwbacks.”

“It’s not stupid at all, it sounds like a lot of fun. Shall we go?”

He wants to hang out with me. We grab our jackets and my legs almost give out when Jesse puts one hand on the small of my back. It’s both romantic and intimate, yet, totally innocent.

I notice Charles is still eating with Ryan and Ryan’s boyfriend, Quinn, and he glances up as we’re leaving, so I smile and wave goodbye.

* * CHARLES * *

Well, this is brutal. I don’t want to stare at them all night, I swear, but I need to see what’s happening. Quinn lightly kicks my leg under the table.

“Charles, stop. You’re being so obvious.”

I glance at Colin’s table. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Quinn leans forward and quietly yells at me. “Seriously. You need to pull yourself together. You’ve been staring over there all evening and your face is so full of contempt, it’s starting to affect my mood.”

I roll my eyes before Quinn continues while swirling his wine around in its glass.

“I know you pride yourself with your easy come, easy go love life, but it’s okay to like someone.”

“I don’t like him. I didn’t even know he was gay until today.”

This is half true and Ryan corrects me. “You do like him and you’re frustrated because you’ve been in the dark for two weeks. Now that you know, you should do something about it.”

“Am I the only one that see’s blondie god over there? They’ve been ogling each other all night.”

“Who knows, maybe there's no chemistry between them.”

“It’s not a big deal. He’s only a friend who I think is funny, sweet, authentic, and cute.”

What am I trying to convince them of again?

Quinn rolls his eyes. “No. Colin isn’t cute, he’s hot. Those eyes. Sheesh, his lashes are so thick and long, they’re like natural eyeliner. His body is lean and hard and his boyish charm makes him instantly approachable. He’s so innocent, it hurts.” Quinn’s eyes are suddenly glossy from thinking about Colin.

“Maybe, but he’s only a friend.”

Ryan and Quinn simultaneously reply. “You’re an idiot.

I see Colin and Jesse get up and notice Jesse has his hand on Colin’s lower back as they leave. Gah.

“You know what will make things better? Bump N Grind night down at the Roof Drop. Frank is DJ'ing so the music's going to have tons of old school stuff. You can find a hot little thing, get freaky on the floor, and then take him home and finish him off.”

Hmm, having someone to make me forget about Colin, the date he’s on, all the smiling and laughing, and the way Jesse was touching Colin when they left isn’t the worst idea They’ve ever heard.

Two drinks later, we’re making our way to the Roof Drop. The place is pretty packed when we arrive, the music’s loud, and the light show is insane. A table miraculously becomes free so Ryan and Quinn snatch it while I buy us a round of drinks and take a few minutes to scope the place out. I need a good lay of the land so I can get a feel for what’s happening and I see a handful of potential options. Tonight might be okay, after all.

The song Culo (by Pitbull) is playing. I sit the drinks down at the table and continue scoping out the bar when I notice Quinn is gawking toward the dance floor behind me. “Holy shit.”

It doesn’t take Ryan long to see what has Quinn’s attention.

“Oh, shit. That’s hot as fuck. Charles, I think we found something hot on the dance floor.”

I’m curious so I turn around. It takes me a minute, because the dance floor is packed, then I see it. “Oh, shit...”

There’s nothing else to say. I wish the sentence, “Colin and Jesse are dancing”, was as innocent as it sounds, but it isn’t.

“Charles, I’m not trying to be insensitive or anything, but they definitely have chemistry. I bet the sex is going to be amazing,” Quinn speaks out.

Fuck you, Quinn.

He looks at me and continues.

“Three things: One, Colin’s body is like liquid fire. Damn, that white boy can move; two, we’re currently watching the prerequisite for sex, really really hot sex, and three, you’re an idiot.”

Ryan can't peel his eyes away, either. “How did you not know he’s gay?”

“I don’t know. He didn’t correct me when we talked about dating, so it was easy to assume he’s straight.”

I’m about to tell them Colin knows I’m gay, but didn’t say anything to me, never looked at me with lust, and never tried to make an advance toward me. The one person I actually like, apparently has zero interest in me, but I decide against sharing that bit of information.

I need a medic for this crash and burn.

I don’t want to watch, but I continue to stare as Colin, with his back against Blondie’s chest, does some sort of erotic rain dance. There isn’t one part of his body that’s not at work, moving in a perfect, seductive, and musical rhythm. Blondie has his palms flat on Colin’s lower hips, making sure Colin’s perfect round ass is pressed tightly to his crotch.

I realize this is the first time I’ve seen Colin dressed in anything other than work clothes. He’s wearing a black, V-neck shirt and dark-grey pants. Everything is so tight, I’m finally able to see a glimpse of the nice body I always assumed he has. I don’t need to assume anymore. Nothing about him is overly bulky, but his arms are nicely toned and his stomach is tight and flat.

Jesse’s wearing a white V-neck that doesn’t hide anything. This guy is a living, breathing, and walking Adonis. I can see every muscle rippling through his shirt as he dances. His light features and light clothes contrast against Colin's dark features and dark clothes, making them a frustratingly perfect pair.

I can’t help but feel a spike of jealousy as they continue to dance with a perfect, seductive, rhythm which is making everyone else on the floor look like amateurs. Ryan and Quinn are fixated on my nightmare.

“I’m boning up from only watching them,” Quinn says out of nowhere.

I look away. “I can’t watch anymore, it’s just too…”

“Hot and erotic?” Ryan interrupts. Followed by Quinn. “Sexy and boner inducing?”

My friends are so helpful. Not.

“I was going to say frustrating, but thanks for the adjectives.”

Ryan doesn’t take his eyes off of them. “All I know is, you have to get out there. If you don’t step in soon, they’re going to be a thing and you’re going to be left outside in the rain.”

I finish my drink as I look around and realize everyone else is staring at the duo, also, then I mumble. “I need another.”

They don’t hear me because they’re too focused on Blondie and his bump toy. I go to the bar and I’m sure they don’t even know I’m gone. “Double Bourbon on the rocks.” The bartender nods and gets to work as I see a cutie sitting at the bar. He’s not my usual type, but I’m desperate for some company, so I approach him in a direct manner that usually turns guys on.

“I’m Charles.”

He looks up and smiles. He has blue eyes and nice features. He’ll do. I wonder if I can get him to dance?

“Do you like dancing…?” I pause, waiting for him to add his name.

He smiles and quickly finishes his drink as the song Candy Shop (by 50 Cent) starts playing. “James, and I didn’t come to sit at the bar all night.”

I throw down some cash, grab my drink, and nod for the cutie to follow me. I drop my drink off at the table, but before I can go to the dance floor, Ryan grabs my shirt and pulls me in.

“Charles, be careful. You’ve had a lot to drink tonight and the choices you make from this point forward are going to prove to Colin what kind of man you are. Don’t do anything stupid.”

Yeah, well, he’s already made his decision.

* * *

James is a good dancer. He’s not awkward and he doesn’t try too hard. Every time I catch a glimpse of Colin and Jesse, I feel the urge to get closer and grind harder with James. I doubt Colin knows I’m here, but that doesn’t stop the grind off in my head.

I want him to be jealous. Gawd, I sound like a fifteen-year-old girl.

50 Cent turns to Usher then to Ludacris and so on. It’s not long before things start heating up between us. We’re facing each other and connecting at every possible point, particularly the erections we’re not trying to hide. I nip his earlobe and get a nice reaction. A nip turns to a lick and the next thing I know, we’re devouring each other and trying to make babies on the dance floor. James has fire in his eyes and motions toward the back of the room.

“I need to use the restroom. Would you like to come with me?”

I lean forward and claim his lips, again. His lips are soft, yet, strong and he always knows exactly when to back off and when to press forward. I’m looking forward to this trip to the bathroom.

Finally, he breaks our kiss and leads me off of the floor. My hands are all over his body while I use my mouth to ravage his neck, his jaw, and finally his ear. He’s butter against my ministrations.

As we’re walking into the bathroom, Colin is coming out. So many questions go through my head.

Am I glad he sees me with James? Am I making a mistake? Should I tell Colin the truth about my feelings? What is the truth? Should I tell Colin to kiss my ass because he knew I was gay and didn’t want me? Do I want to make him jealous? Do I ditch James?

I try to play it super cool because I’m fine, everything’s fine. There’s nothing going on between Colin and me so I have nothing to hide or feel ashamed about. Right?

“Hey, dude.” Hey dude? Why the fuck did I say that? “Are you stalking me? Twice in one night is really weird.”

Oh, jeez, can I please shut up now.

He’s smiling or smirking, I can’t tell because everything is overwhelming. “Jesse and I decided to go dancing before calling it a night.”

“Cool. Ryan and Quinn are out there if you want to join us.”

Please join us and ditch Blondie.

Colin looks at me and then glances down. I straighten up so he can check me out. I’m only kidding, he’s not checking me out. He’s looking at the guy I’m hanging all over.

Shit.

I let go of the guy like a hot potato.

“This is…” Shit. What’s this guy’s name? I don’t know how long I’ve been standing here, looking like I’m trying to catch flies, before the guy finally intervenes.

“Sorry, I have Charles a little preoccupied. My name is James.”

Smooth.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Colin.”

There’s an uncomfortable silence when no one knows what to do or say. I’m hoping James decides I’m not what he’s expecting and leaves, but that’s not usually my luck. Finally, Colin breaks the silence.

“Well, I can see you guys are busy, so I’m going to go.” He points to the dance floor with both pointer fingers and leaves.

Fuck.

* * COLIN * *

“Hey, guess who I ran into when I was leaving the bathroom?”

Jesse laughs and looks around. “I can’t possibly know. The only people we know in common are our moms. Are they here?”

There he goes, teasing me, again.

“Don’t make me look stupid on our first date,” I pout. I love being flirty with this beautiful blonde man.

He moves his hands down my arms and pulls me closer. “You look like a lot of things tonight, but stupid isn’t one of them. Who’d you see in the bathroom?” He’s doing that thing, again, where I’m the only person he sees.

“Charles, my colleague. You met him at dinner tonight. I think he’s currently getting lucky.”

He raises his eyebrow and nods his head in approval before I continue.

“Anyway, Ryan and Quinn have a big table over there and we’re invited to join them, if we want? I know that’s weird on a first date, but I wouldn’t mind sitting down.”

“No, it’s not weird at all.” He grabs our drinks and gestures for me to proceed to the table.

Ryan smiles when he sees me approaching.

“I saw Charles and he said we could join you guys? Is that okay?”

They move down to make room for us. “Absolutely. It’s the least we can do for tonight’s main attraction,” Ryan answers, immediately. “Colin, Jesse, this is my boyfriend, Quinn. Quinn, this is the hottest duo to ever grace the dance floor of this fine establishment and the reason we’ve been sporting a hard-on for the last ninety minutes.”

Jesse howls with laughter and replies. “That’s the best introduction anyone has ever given me. I’m honored and undeserving.”

Ryan disagrees. “No, you’re absolutely deserving. You guys were killing it out there. We haven’t had a chance to dance because there’s no way we can compare. We’d look like a couple of newborn horses trying to find our legs compared to the two of you.”

Jesse laughs at the compliment and I blush.

Quinn puts his hand up and begs, like a child does for five more minutes before bedtime, for Jesse’s help. “I want lessons. Teach me your ways.”

“Give me ten minutes and I’ll take you out there, as long as it’s okay with Ryan.”

“Sure, as long as I get lessons, also, and he ends the night with me.”

Ryan wraps his arm around Quinn and pulls him in for a kiss. We rehydrate and rest while listening to Ryan and Quinn banter back and forth. They’re fun and I like them.

Finally, Quinn has had enough and looks to Jesse. “You guys have monopolized the dance floor all night and I’m ready for my turn. You’ve had time to finish your water and rest, now get your ass up and dance with me.”

“Yes, Sir.” Jesse gives a mock salute. He tosses back the last drink of his water and lets Quinn pull him onto the dance floor, leaving Ryan and I laughing in their wake. Ryan is about to say something when Charles makes his return to the table.

“Where’s Blondie?”

Ryan and I simultaneously point toward the dance floor. Jesse is using his hands to show Quinn how to move, then he lets go so Quinn can try on his own.

I tease Charles. “Where’s he whose name you couldn’t remember?”

“Oh, God.” Charles covers his face, laughing. “That wasn’t my finest moment. I can’t believe I forgot the guy’s name. I’m such an ass.”

Ryan lifts his glass and cheers. “That you are.”

Charles flips him off and then composes himself. “Besides, I’m here with my friends tonight.” He returns his attention to the dance floor.

Ryan smirks. “I’m sure he gave you a nice parting gift before he left.”

Without taking his eyes off of the dance floor, Charles flips him off. I laugh as the banter between them is too funny. We sit in silence for a few minutes just watching Quinn and Jesse as they dance. Well, actually, I’m only watching Jesse.

“He’s good.” Charles comments, to no one in particular, while swirling his drink in lazy circles. Then he looks at me. “I mean, I already knew you’d be good, but you’re very, very good.”

I can’t help but blush. “That must be why Ryan and Quinn were literally begging Jesse for private lessons. No one was acknowledging my skills.” I glare at Ryan, who throws his hands up in surrender.

“Woah. It’s nothing personal against you. You’re very attractive, but Jesse is Chris Hemsworth’s doppelgänger and Hemsworth is our celebrity free-pass card, so yeah, we’re going to bump and grind with Jesse.”

“Oh, so I’m not hot enough for you, either?” I wipe a faux tear from my eye and flick it to the side.

Ryan laughs, he points at Charles. “Oh, shut up. Take this blondie out to the dance floor. He needs some technique lessons. He only knows how to dance with the intention of it ending in sex, but there’s so much more to dancing than that.”

Charles throws a napkin at him. “You’re an ass, Ryan. There’s nothing wrong with my dancing.”

Ryan shrugs, feigning indifference. “Say what you will, Charles, but I’m right and you’re wrong.”

Charles takes the bait. “Fine. I’ll prove it to you.” He holds his hand out to me, “Let’s dance.”

I look at Ryan, who’s smiling. He played Charles like cheap fiddle. We make it to the dance floor as the song Milkshake (by Kelis) starts playing. “Are they serious?”

We’re both laughing as we start dancing. Although it’s not my favorite song, it’s incredibly catchy and I can’t help but sing. I drape one arm over Charles’ shoulder and start imitating Kelis as I move my body to the music.

Charles puts his hand on my hip, but we still have more space between us than any other duo on the dance floor and we’re laughing and having a good time. My youth pastor from high school would be proud that we have room for Jesus between us.

I let go of him and start solo dancing. I’m rolling my hips and shaking my milkshake. I look back at him and notice he’s a simple white boy doing a glorified two step. I stand back and watch him for a second before I begin teasing him. “What are you doing? Is this how you dance with all the guys? No wonder James was dragging you to the bathroom, anything to get you off the dance floor.”

He looks uncomfortable under my scrutiny.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Colin?”

“I’m surveying the damage.”

He stops dancing, now we’re both standing motionless on the dance floor. “I can’t dance while you stare at me like that.”

“No, Charles, you can’t dance, period. Is this how you are in bed? Is this the real reason James bailed on you?”

He flips me off in return, but with a giant smile on his face. The DJ starts playing Freek-a-leek (by Petey Pablo). This’ll do. It has a basic beat to build on. “Okay, come here, Charlie.” I bounce my shoulders to the beat and he follows my lead. “I’m going to show you the basics.”

He already knows the basic two step, so I’m going to let him keep it until he’s ready to advance. I start moving my legs as I watch him, watch me move. I look up and notice two smiling brunettes, along with several other couples, dancing next to us and watching me teach Charles how to dance.

I point at Charles. “He’s learning how to dance for the first time. He’s never been to the club before.”

They laugh and give Charles a thumbs up for his good work and everyone else smiles, also, but he scowls, embarrassed from all of the attention.

“You’re a jerk.”

“Hey, pay attention to the dancing, now the hips and the upper body.”

He’s mimicking everything I’m doing and he’s doing a pretty good job of learning. You can tell he’s becoming more comfortable with the moves and he already looks ten times better than he did a few minutes ago.

“Okay, try this.” I add a hip dip and pop my ass on the way up.

“Oh, god. Okay, I’ll try.”

I’m sure he’s doing his best.

“Oh, no. Charles, that was terrible.” I’m dying of laughter at this point. It’s late in the evening and the whole dance floor is so sexually charged, they’re practically participating in a giant orgy. Yet, Charlie and I are laughing hysterically. “Try it like this.” I break down the move and he tries, again, with more success. We continue dancing as Charlie applies all of his concentration and we find our own rhythm and style.

I spot Jesse, Quinn, and Ryan about thirty feet away and I’m glad to see they’re having a good time. Jesse has a huge smile as he watches me. I gesture toward Charlie, who’s not paying attention to anything, and point my thumbs down while mouthing, he’s terrible. Jesse starts laughing and waves me off. Salt Shaker (by the Ying Yang Twins) starts playing.

“Do you want to try dancing together to this song and see if you can manage?”

We’d been primarily dancing in the same proximity, but not together, as we did for Milkshake.

“Do you think I’m ready?” he teases. Asshole.

“No, but we’ll make it work.”

I turn so I’m behind him with his back toward my chest. We aren’t touching, but we are definitely dancing together with a little less room for Jesus.

“Okay, ready?”

He nods in response. I put my hands on his hips so I can guide him so as to make sure we’re staying in rhythm. There’s nothing worse than dancing off rhythm with your partner. Once I’m confident we’re on the same page, I put my hand on his stomach and lightly pull him against my chest, making sure his upper body is working as hard as his hips while he skillfully follows my lead.

Halfway through the song, I realize Charles doesn’t need my help anymore, we’re dancing together like two veterans. Suddenly, he spins around so he’s dancing behind me. He drops so low I can feel his face graze against my ass as he starts skimming his hands down my sides in the most provocative way.

I hear a loud roar of wolf whistles and look up to find everyone smiling at us because they’re impressed with Charles’ sudden improvement and movement.

Yeah, okay, now we’re talking. Encouraged by Charles’ advancements and the crowd’s attention, I start moving and rolling my hips, shaking and gyrating when the song calls for it. I even bump his groin a few times for good measure. I can tell the song is about to finish, so I turn around and see him smiling at me.

“Well, now, the white boy can dance.”

He smiles. “Only because I had the best teacher.”

I give my most innocent smile. “Flattery will not get you anywhere with me.”

“Colin, why do you have to break my heart?” He breaks his faux air heart and I laugh. He’s so adorable.

“How about one more song, Charles, then a break?”

Pony (by Ginuwine) fades in. I look at Charles and he smiles as I put my hand on his chest and laugh.

“Oh, shit. They don’t mess around. Okay, show me what you’ve learned.”

Charlie turns me around so his hand is pressed on my lower stomach and he’s pulling me flush against him. Sorry, Jesus, there’s no room for you anymore. He puts his other hand on my hip and starts moving us to the music, while grinding his groin against my ass, as he whispers into my ear.

“Okay, if you say so.” I can’t be sure, but I think he’s challenging me to a dance off so I slightly turn my head toward him. “Is that how you want to do this?”

Challenge accepted.

We continue to move our hips together and I push back. I reach behind his head and lightly graze my fingers down the sensitive part of his neck. I’m surprised when I feel movement in his pants. Bingo. Game. Set. Match.

I innocently graze my fingers along his neck while my ass and hips move as seductively as possible. Charles’ lips near my ear.

“Hey, you’re cheating.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

I’m glad he can’t see me smile, although I’m sure he can hear it on my voice. I look around the floor, but I don’t see any of the guys, so I casually glance at our table and find all three of them staring at us. Ryan is definitely holding back a laugh and Jesse gives me two thumbs up.

I lean my head back, exposing my neck, and rest it gently against Charles. I take one more pass at his neck with my figure tips and notice he’s definitely boning up.

I feel his fingers across my lower belly, which is exposed because my arm is extended up around his neck. He starts at my belly button and slowly moves outwards towards my hips, tracing the band of my boxer briefs. This is an erogenous zone for me. Instantly, my breath hitches and I involuntarily squeeze his neck, it’s gentle but obvious.

Shit.

I can hear his breath quicken as he, ever so slightly, leans forward so his mouth and nose brush the curve of my neck. Damnit, I really set myself up for that one.

He’s rock hard and I’m not far behind. This seductive dancing is sending heat throughout my body. I’m vaguely aware why Charles might be so popular. Despite my current state of arousal, I still declare myself in the lead at this point. Charlie dips his fingers under the elastic bands of my boxer briefs.

Shit.

I start laughing. “Who’s cheating now, you son-of-a-bitch?”

Charlie over-exaggerates his innocence. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Bastard.

There’s about twenty seconds left of the song, so I disengage my arm from his neck, lean forward, and grind my ass back (hard). This changes the whole view for Charles as he runs his hand down my spine and I hear him groan Checkmate.

The song finishes, I face Charlie, and reach for his hand. “Good game, Charles.” His smile fills the whole room as he laughs and I point to his bulge. “You might want to adjust that before we go back.”

He looks down at my bulge. “What about you?”

I point to Jesse as I smile and adjust my pants. “Me? Well, I’m going to leave here with him and I get to blame you if I have to experience the walk-of-hypocritical-shame tomorrow morning.”

The guys at our table are whistling and whooping at us until we finally sit down. Jesse slides me a full glass of water and puts his arm around me as Quinn shouts.

“Hot freaking damn. I picked the wrong fucking teacher, that’s for sure.”

“Colin and Jesse versus Colin and Charles? Maybe Colin, Jesse, and Charles together?” Ryan says, seesawing his hands to figure out who the better couple is.

With a giant, sleazy smile, Ryan looks at the table for approval.

“Yes, please,” Quinn says. “I’ll pay an extra cover charge for that.”

I point to all of them. “I saw the three of you guys and the only one worth a damn, is this guy.” I reach up, grab Jesse’s chin, and give it a playful shake.

Jesse leans down to my ear. “Are you ready to leave?”

I nod.

“Ok, I’m going to use the restroom and I’ll be right back. Make sure you finish your water. You were working pretty hard out there.”

I look at him. He has no clue Charlie and I are only friends, so I’m worried I may have crossed a line. I see nothing except friendly teasing and lust. Yummy.

“Seriously, Colin, your boyfriend is amazing.”

I bite my lip at the thought of dating Jesse. “Well, he’s not my boyfriend, but thanks for the approval.”

“Yet…” Charlie adds.

“Yet?”

“He’s not your boyfriend…yet.”

He’s not looking directly at me; he’s watching the dance floor and sipping his water.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’d be more than happy if he wanted to date me, he’s a total ten, but I haven’t had any luck with this stuff in the past. I’ve never made it past date number four, so that’s my first goal.”

“Wait. You’ve never dated anyone longer than four dates,” Quinn yells.

Of course, Jesse chooses to return at this moment and tries to catch up with the conversation. “Who hasn’t dated anyone longer than four dates?”

Damnit.

“Nothing.” Please, everyone. Drop it.

Charles is laughing. “Colin hasn’t ever dated anyone longer than four dates before.”

Fucking Charles. I shoot him daggers, silently mouthing what the fuck? His eyes go wide and Quinn looks at me with surprise as he speaks a little too loudly.

“Wait. Are you a virgin?”

Fucking, Quinn. Yeah, I’m glaring at him, too, as I quickly reply. “No.”

Quinn doesn’t stop there. “How many times have you had sex? Once? Twice?”

Fucking Quinn. I’m done. “All right, I’m ready to go.”

Jesse puts his hand on my back and we start walking away. I turn around and see all three of them smiling. I look at Charles in the eyes, flip him the bird and mouth fuck you. This is the first time I’m not teasing or joking. I’m pissed. His face drops, again, as he realizes I’m angry at him.

* * CHARLES * *

Fuck, Colin stormed out.

“Oh, shit. How are you still alive? He murdered you with his eyes,” Quinn remarks.

Us, Quinn, he murdered us.” I don’t feel so good, I think I might be sick.

“Don’t worry about it. He’ll be fine by Monday,” Ryan says though he doesn’t look very confident. He’s trying to give me hope.

“You, think?” I spit back, sarcastically.

“We harassed him about his sex life, nay, lack of sex life, in front of Blondie God, during their first date. I’d be pissed too.”

Ugh. Why is my drink empty? I’m so upset with myself and the situation. We were having a really good time, but I blew it. “I’m going home. I don’t want to be here anymore.”

Ryan grabs my arm before I can leave. “Charles, I know you’re feeling discouraged right now, but be patient.” He squeezes my bicep to keep my attention. “You need to take the weekend off and really think about what you want. If you’re not ready to admit you want to make significant changes in your life and you’re falling in love with Colin, then you’ll need to let him go. You can’t get angry and jealous because he’s finding happiness if you’re not willing to do anything about it.”

I jerk my arm away. Colin’s angry at me and currently going home with the perfect man. “There’s no point.”

“Charles.”

I turn and face Ryan, even though I don’t want to talk to him anymore.

“Don’t live a life of regret.”

I give him a sarcastic thumbs up and I leave the club.

* * COLIN * *

Knowing Jesse is still parked at the restaurant, I offer to walk him to his car.

“Do you want me to drive you home?” He asks.

“No, that’s okay, I live close by.”

We walk toward his car for a few minutes in silence. I’m sure Jesse is totally freaked out by the comments Charles and Quinn had made. Their comments made me look ridiculously inexperienced and green. I won’t be surprised if there’s no second date.

“I had a really great time, Colin. This is probably one of the best first dates I’ve ever had.”

My face transforms into a look of disbelief. How is this even possible?

“It’s true,” he laughs.

I bow. “Well, thank you, kind sir.”

We’re near the parking garage and I don’t know if I should walk all of the way to his car or if we should say goodnight on the street. Jesse makes the decision when he stops at the garage exit, pulls out his phone, and starts fidgeting with it.

“Should we decide on a second date now or should we trade numbers?”

I smile. He’s adorable when he’s nervous. I’m reducing this hulking hot blonde to a pile of nerves. “I’d like to leave here knowing when I’ll see you, again.”

We talk about a few different options and decide to do lunch on Tuesday at Brew’d Awakening. I’m looking forward to seeing him, again. I notice he’s still fidgeting with his phone. I think he’s trying to find the courage to ask for my number so I help him.

“Why don’t I give you my number so you can contact me, if and when you want?” I like the fact he’s so nervous, it makes me feel surer of myself.

He smiles and hands me his phone. “Yes, thank you, Colin. I’m so terrible at this.” He lightly smacks his palm against his forehead.

“Oh, stop, I think it’s cute. It makes me feel good knowing I’m not the only nervous one here.” I finish entering my number and hand the phone back to him, but as he tries to grab it from me, I don’t let go. I stare intently at him. “Don’t forget to call me.”

He sheepishly smiles. “I’ll definitely be contacting you before Tuesday.”

We’re standing so close together, if a soft breeze came through, we’d probably end up in each other’s arms, but alas, there’s no breeze. We’re only staring at each other and I can see his blue eyes dancing with nervousness. I wonder what he sees in mine.

Jesse rocks from heel to toe like a small child. “I guess I’ll talk to you later?”

“That’s the plan.” Just kiss me already, you fool.

“Yes, of course, cool.” He’s so awkward and transparent, I can’t help but laugh to myself. He’s shifting nervously. Come on, Jesse, I’m not going to do all of the work here.

“Alright, well, I’m going to go, then.” I say the words, but I don’t move. I look at Jesse, challenging him to do something. I can tell he wants to move in, so bad, but there’s too much fear in his eyes. What the heck is he afraid of? There’d be a line of guys and girls, all of the way down the block, willing to do anything he wants. “Bye,” I bid him farewell, again. I so badly want him to kiss me and my body is aching for his touch in some way.

He simply stands there, looking disappointed. I shake my head with amusement. “Really, Jesse?”

He lightly bounces his fists against his legs in nervous frustration. “I know. I suck.”

I’m not frustrated or angry, but I’m not going to stand here all-night waiting for something to happen. “Okay, have a good evening. I’ll see you next week.”

“Wait. Colin—” he pulls me toward him and leans into me at the same time. “Oh, god, I just…”

Our foreheads brutally collide, causing him to stop talking and rub his head. I grab his neck and gently pull him forward until our lips are almost touching and I can feel his breath against my lips. I feel his strong arms slide around my waist, pulling me forward as he presses his lips to mine.

We hold the kiss for a few seconds before slowly pressing on. He squeezes my waist as he opens his mouth, inviting me along with him. I slowly slide my hands down his neck, over his shoulders, and ending their journey on the large plains of his chest.

I love the feeling of his muscles, his breath, and his heart all working simultaneously. After a few minutes, we release each other and he rests his forehead against mine while looking into my eyes. “Cool.”

I lean back and shoot him a questioning look. “Cool?”

He pulls me to him, again. “Yeah, cool.”

This time, his kiss has more fire behind it. I squeeze his muscles, trying to draw him closer as our mouths are desperate for each other. Jesse cups my face and advances forward, bringing our bodies flush together. It may be cold outside, but my body is consumed with his heat. I can feel our hardness’s collide as we grind together.

Jesse breaks our contact. “Cool.”

We both smile. “I’m really going to go now.” I pat his chest and push away from him gently.

“Me too.” But he doesn't move, he only stares at me while grinning and biting his lip with desire.

“Jesse, stop. I’m really leaving now.” I wave goodbye. I start walking backward so I can watch him. We‘re both trying not to laugh. Jesse finally waves at me. I turn around and start walking home. I glance back to find him still standing there, watching me. I remove one hand from my pocket and give him a small wave before returning my hand and continuing my walk home.

* * *

I lie down on the bed, after a quick shower, and my phone vibrates with a message from an unknown number.

[Unknown] I’m home and I’m looking forward to seeing you, again. Goodnight, Colin.

[Colin] Same Goodnight, Jesse.

[Unknown] Goodnight.

[Colin] You already said that.

[Unknown] Don’t make me look stupid.

[Colin] You look like a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them.

[Unknown] Don’t steal my line. I’m really going now. Goodnight, Colin.

[Colin] Don’t steal my line, Jesse. Goodnight.

[Unknown] Touché

Charles puts his hand on my hip, but we still have more space between us than any other duo on the dance floor and we’re laughing and having a good time. My youth pastor from high school would be proud that we have room for Jesus between us.

OMG! I had to stop reading, I was laughing so hard.   You caught me completely off guard. I had to comment immediately.  Back to the story, then another comment.

Totally agree mfa607! I’m on third read through on a grey rainy day here in Spain. Still after no rain for months, literally, it’s great to lie back and read a classic from mrs G.  She is the Boss!

Aww, you’re too sweet. I appreciate it.

In one of the many gratuitous insults my Spanish boss has shared over the years: “the trouble is you English are so false”. (Pots and kettles came to mind). But when I comment here on GA I really mean it.  I’ve had a tough few years and you authors have helped me so much to relax, smile and be motivated.   You are the BOSS.  XXX

Gads! It is so nice to read this first attempt at writing and know that @Mrsgnomie was evil before she hooked up with @kbois! Also to know that her writing was already polished!
