To Mr. James Bond,

 

Yes, please do, send the power of the gods I require it. I spent all last night having to do algebra. By the point, I had concluded my assignments, my mind was spinning with all the problems that were required to be solved. Actually, my head is still paining me today at the amount of pages our math teacher lumbered us with. Do educators never take into account how much homework we get from several other teachers? They say they are busy correcting our exams on an occasional basis when they are at home on the weekends. Don't they have a life outside the classroom? Furthermore, when we don't have our coursework done in the off chance, they get all up-tight.

The "I don't have my paper corrected" doesn't work, and the worst part of it all is, seldom it is not intended. I have half a mind to say well if you were so goddam busy during the weekend, as not to return my exams papers on Monday. The one I completed on Friday, then don't expect me to have the assignment you gave me on Friday, to be finished for Monday. Bag that and ship it to all your other teacher friends.

The irony in the teachers' speech, "I had other students schoolwork to correct," is getting old, don't you say. I wish I could walk up to the occasional mentor and say, "I have other teachers homework to do." Ah… I'm indulging myself, as it would ever happen or I'd have the balls to pull off such an act.

And, no I have no Watson, I suppose I am at a loss as to having a partner in crime as so to speak. I don't think I would make a very good partner in crime. I am not cut out for all the running and climbing you see in the detective shows. I am content with a big bag of Cheetos and a TV, instead of all that physical exercise.

Plus, Sherlock may be the brains for the operation, but Watson is the dude who keeps track of everything, so you have to thank yourself for being a formidable secretary. I decided Sherlock because I spend a great deal of my time in reflection, reading books and well I guess I am a little geeky but not too much. I don't fit the iconic 1980s nerds or anything, so let's hope to say you don't meet the stereotypical jock trope from the 1980s.

Sorry to hear you are not as productive as you'd hoped. I wish it picks up for you and soon. I would come to one of the Basketball games if I knew who I was rooting for, but this is the beauty of being secretive here. Perhaps you'll never know. I might turn up, even though I have no inkling who you are or what you look like. I reckon if I did go, I'd have to be on the lookout for a guy who likes Basketball, who has a habit of not doing his school work and most certainly looks like a Watson. Okay, I got it, I've secured it in my mind palace for future analysis.

I do try to do sports, except it's not for me. I end up being more of a hassle for the team and the people in the group. Plus, there is a whole other fuss which makes me stupid on any court, field, or track. I occasionally try to do some swimming as it can be done in my own time and people don't get all up in your business about it. I like it when I shift through the water; it is soothing and relaxing. I can't quite explain it.

Good to know I made you smile, it's comforting to know I made you grin at least. I used to do band, but I dropped out, I wasn't excellent. I used to play Clarinet, and the teacher said I was great, but all around me, I knew people were talking about me and my crappy ability.

So, as I bring this letter to a close; I have a couple of questions.

 

1.) What instrument do you play in the band?

2.) And are you a movie or game enthusiast because you seem to have an interest? You mentioned a game the last time.

 

Anyway, I hope your next Basketball practice goes well. Please write back to me when you can.

Ps, what you say to being called Watson?

I have made a discovery.  What we are reading is one side of a two sided discussion and a person can pick up a lot of what the other person is saying, with in the responses. Also I have discovered that if I read the (letter) with more care I can pick up the other persons discusdion points much easier.  There are a couple ways people read, skim and content. Most people shift to content to read owners manuals where you really have to know what the writing says. Interesting writing style.  I like it. I was a bit confused early on but now I understand it and like it. In fact I like Sherlock and if I were the person he is writing to, I would like to meet him. I think he may be less geeky then he thinks he is. I am not sure that most geeks can express them selves as well as Sherlock can.  By the way I am a teacher and I agree with his teacher comments. I hope I fit into the good teacher category. At least that’s where I strive to be.  I look forward to the next entry and I hope they do meet. I have an internet friend I have been chatting with for close to 10 years. We have never met. On opposite coasts of the US. We may some day. Funny comment was made by my friend the other day. He said if we did meet, we would probably never leave the room to sight see. My thought was, love is an interesting thing. He can fall so much in love with me and it is only through words. We don’t Skype or video chat or send pictures back and forth all the time. We have but seldom. I see the characters in this story like that. I hope they meet.

Theoretically, I am just answering what the other character has said, plus adding some of what the current character is asking. I suppose if you are reading it, it will appear as a two-sided conversation within the one letter, with one person. A lot of people have a tendency to skim over content, and more frequently the likes of letters and manuals because people get sidetracked easily, they want to get to the bottom of the letter, to see what the point is as easy. Although I suppose, I prefer when I pay attention to what is being said in most body of texts, therefore, I am probably the reason as to make the reader, read more slowly trying to pick up on details. About four or five days ago, I was talking to my partner and I asked him if he could spot any of the subtle hints I have dropped so far, although he said no, so I was like "yay." Of course, I am evil so I spelled it out to him, he said it was a good idea, but he thanked me far from enthusiastically from me ruining it for him. I suppose Sherlock is a little bit of a brain box, he can be sarcastic and a little reserved, which I suppose is a nice effect. Perhaps Sherlock is geeky, or perhaps he is someone close to the protagonist, who knows... the question is do you really know the person who sits next to you in school, the assumption is probably not, even if they are a good friend, not that Sherlock is a friend, however. Just maybe I will let them meet, I'll see I have some notion in my head, and I have been thinking, how do I get them to meet, I guess time will tell.

 

The idea behind You & I is to grow a bond through strickly personalities, without knowing the identity of the other person, or what they look like. We are very special creatures, they say don't judge a person, nor judge a book by its cover, except we are all guilty of this. I too can relate to having a friend far distance, and having not skyped or anything like that; it comes down to the bond you develop, but as well as the mystery of the said person. Humans love suspense and question, once the question is gone, it loses its appeal.

You are developing their epistolary relationship nicely. Such writing is hard to carry off, yet it sounds natural to the readers ear. Or to mine, anyway.

Thank you, Parker; you have no idea how good it is to hear that. That the characters sound real enough for you to be able to empathize with what is on the page. I hope you enjoy the story as it goes on :)
