To Defend Marriage, Act! - Operetta Libretto 2. Gilbert and Sullivan go to Washington

There are currently no reviews.

The spring of 2013. Reality TV takes over the 'Peoples' Court,' and camera crews vie for the best angles. While real couples, with real lives, are barred from entering the Chambers, corporate interests have 'free-speeched' their money around and bought a spectacular Reality event broadcast Live! from the Chambers themselves. Stay tuned.

What happens when satire runs a muck? It only proves that you can't make this stuff up.

User Feedback

This operetta was written before the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges.
So instead of reading it with a wrinkled brow I was able to read it with a smile on my face. For it is witty and humerous with just a bit of venom.
For me the highlight was not so much the ruling, but the coming out of Selvin by asking Jacky (with a borrowed ring) to marry him.

I have loved you for ten years,
And dreamed of the moment when
We stand in a church together,
And kith and kin see us married.

For Selvin the dream has come true. For many others, who had to wait far too long, it has become reality as well. Congratulations to all of them.

Oh, my friend - "witty and humerous with just a bit of venom." That sound like a perfect description of me! lol.

Your review had brought a great smile to my face, and I feel sure it will remain there for the next few hours at least.

Thank you!
