Cailen's Poem Archive - 18. Chapter 18: The Day Before Christmas

I felt that I needed to throw out a small disclaimer: I'm fine, Ace is fine. I was venting some frustration and this is what I got. We're okay so don't panic just enjoy the poem.

The Day Before Christmas

The snowflakes on the railing cling against the breeze

The snow falling from the heavens, covering the trees

With an open hand I reach on high and try to catch their grace

But as I reach out they melt away, and die without a trace

I glance around; I’m all alone wandering in the night

The streetlamp high above my head, cast stark the only light

I look out on the river’s edge and to the blackness deep

The wind calls out in sharp refrain and the cold within me creeps

I step out to the water’s edge, leaves crunch under my feet

The snow blows harder and is so heavy, turning into sleet

I look below and see myself a specter cloaked in black

The light behind and overhead cast shadows behind my back

With a sigh I reminisce of thoughts I buried past

Of love and hope and days of joy, memories that did not last

I know you’re gone you said ‘move on’ but I cannot escape the pain

So I’ll follow you into that dark oblivion and together we’ll remain

As if my body read my mind I lept into the air

The ground departed and wind swept back and snow against my hair

I see the end, the darkness deep coming ever close

This is the end I think of you, the one I cherished and cared for most

I felt the shock of a thousand knives stab against my skin

The ices stings against my body and the darkness settles in

I struggle vainly against the cold and I vanish in the night

I look up though the murky depths and still can see the light

I close my eyes a final time I hear you calling out my name

I missed your love your laugh and strength I could never be the same

You take my hand and lead me on, together once again

You lead me into the darkness together in the end
