Cozy Contemplations - 16. Chapter 16 Anticipation

I love this time of year.

Cozy Contemplations

Chapter 16 Anticipation

The Scent of What's to Come

Nostrils flare at the scent of fall

As early dawn brings the clarion call

Of massing geese preparing for flight

Filling the sky with a glorious sight

I'm the snowbird who sticks around

Waiting for them to return to ground

A blanket of white will soon be here

Marking the passing of one more year

A time of renewal for our mother

As we all prepare to greet another

That wonderful time before the inevitable grumbles that winter brings :)

Autumn is s season I like, though we're having an atypical one so far. We do get some of your geese, in fact, many seem to stay all year round now. The scents and sights you're describing are more October here, rather than now. They are wonderful. As is your poem. No surprise there. :P

It's amazing how the seasons, beginnings or endings, unfold. I felt the first hints of fall at dawn this morning, but now it feels like a midsummer day. Nothing much makes me happier than an Indian summer... with all those incredible colors, the morning chill, and the afternoon warmth. I feel it coming :)... I hope I'm right. Thanks, my friend

It's hard to say what season I like the most...Spring is okay with the lilacs and daffodils and burgeoning leaves, but Summer can be a humid hell of oppressive heat as it goes on.  I guess we can skip Winter, since I'm no longer as fond of snowball fights from icy forts in the front yard and I no longer own a sled.  That only leaves Fall, a magical time of colored leaves, warm days and cool evening...and that slightly smoky tang in the air even though no one is burning leaves anywhere near.

School always seems to mark the end of fun for kids, but for those of us who enjoy reading it marked the start of a new adventure and the possibility of new friends.  Can't forget Hallowe'en candy, or the growing expectations of a warm cup of soup or cocoa when you come in after snatching a few last hours of Indian Summer.  All the best things from our childhoods seems gathered in one shining season of excitement--bring it on, O Wheel of Time--I need one last hurrah before Winter clamps down on my joints and a date with the Tylenol bottle!  :)

I just love this, CG! It's how I feel too... oh how I loved snow forts and snowball fights, sleds and toboggans... but yeah, those don't go well with old joints, nor does the cold :) .  Hence the anticipation for what is coming next in the wheel of time... thank you, my friend

You made me miss fall in all its glory.  Living south of you, fall marks the arrival of geese who arrived to spend the winter.

Canada Geese are returning. There is a pair already in the pond down the road. I love the fall... I love the warm days and cool evenings, with no flies to bother the horse. I am always in awe of all the colors surrounding me when fall is in its bloom. Still, I am intent on spring's arrival at the moment. :)  Thanks, buddy.
