Cozy Contemplations - 17. Chapter 17 Imminent Arrival

Winter is coming... some Tankas to celebrate. :)

Cozy Contemplations

Chapter 17 Imminent Arrival

Ode to Buckthorn

Black berries abound

Squishing unavoidable

As laden branches

Slowly lighten their bounty

Along my peppered walkway

Ceasefire

Temporarily

A truce is implemented

As nature retreats

Pruner and mower retired

Until spring glory bursts forth

Haunting

Sudden stream of air

Careens indecisively

Through silent forest

Magnifying eeriness

As it sets me shivering

Harbinger

The smell of fall rain

Is so different from spring’s

Infused with decay

Declaring and reminding

All living things have their time

Slippers

Condensation drips

And a cloud forms from warm breath

Fogging the window

Suggesting it’s time for wool

And firing up the furnace

The sporadic chill of fall has descended. It's my favorite time of year.

These made me chilly and wanting a sweater and slippers. I also want to get out and walk the forest looking at the changing leaves.  Beautiful images, my friend

Pretty amazing set. I looked back to the first poetry prompt and see you tried Tanka out way back when, but these are mature and perfectly crafted. Together, they are like an intimate walk in an autumnal landscape full of memories and wishes for the future. Thanks for sharing with us.

You are so talented Headstall. I like all 4 of your contemplations if you ask me which one spoke to my heart, I have to say two of them:
Ceasefire and Harbinger.
But all four of them are very good.  In life, you have to make choices and this evening I chose these two. I always look to see if there is a new story or contemplations.

These are great evocations of the changing seasons...but you pen them in the midst of a physical torment brought on by the gods, and my not getting a flu shot yet.  I may be seeing daylight at the end of the tunnel...I hope.  :)

For those who may have read 1066 And All That...not quite 'obit surfeiti palfreyorum'.  I think that's close.

You make my knees ache with these too--or it could be dread of the impending arrival of the Frost Giants.

Snippets of autumn. The only thing missing was the tang of smoke from burning leaves ... and a mug if spiced cider.

I loved these Tankas. Each speaks of the seasons to me; the scent of the changes in the earth and the ripeness of harvest. Beautiful. Very beautiful.

Thanks, Parker
