Cozy Contemplations - 3. Jigsaw

Another contemplation as the world breaks around me. Life isn't tidy, but it doesn't mean we should accept the mess :)

Chapter 3 Jigsaw

Life is a puzzle when things don't fit

We twist the pieces and give them a hit

But circles can't be squares

So we're caught unawares

By sudden disruptions

And their volatile eruptions

Breaking us into pieces

When our certainty ceases

Still, we play with those unruly sections

And try to reestablish the connections

For we know the trick is to assuage

And not cower at fate's barrage

Knock the lint from our shoulders

And put aberrations into folders

Attempt to rework the pattern

Like the layered rings of Saturn

And accept there’ll always be flaws

For life doesn’t follow strict laws

And perfection is naught but a dream

Thanks for reading.

And perfection is naught but a dream.  So very, very true, yet how many people ruin their lives trying ...

Thanks for this, Gary. :)

Puzzles of all sorts - jigsaws, spatial puzzles, mathematical teasers - they challenge and prod the solver. And what of us, we who don't seem to fit the standard cutouts? Do we get pounded into place, or will we be allowed to be a non-standard part of the picture? I like the metaphor you propose. It is powerful and real. Beautifully done.

Thank you, kind sir

Way too many, northie... but there are also those who don't put real effort into the things they should... they want their cake and eat it too... life is about balance in the end... sorry... I do tend to go on :) Thanks, my friend

I always hated puzzles, too frustrating with my limited patience...and not enough reward.  An intellectual puzzle is different, and I can devote a lot of thought to those.

When those 3-D puzzles came out, I bought two, one of a Pyramid, and another I think was Parliament.  Never worked on them after looking at the pieces.  :)

Isn't there a Yul Brynner line from 'The King and I'--'it is a puzzlement.'

And perfection is naught but a dream  So true.  Many of us try so hard to twist and pretzel ourselves and others to try to achieve a perfection that doesn't exist.

We are good at expecting perfection from others, while never coming close ourselves... thank you for the support, my friend

So true 'perfection is a dream'!! Life is a puzzle and it's not always that we fit, sometimes we break, and try to fit in the space, n life doesn't follow strict rules...

Such a honest poem :)

I see you understood this exactly. We need to stop expecting perfection... in ourselves and in others. We will never be happy if we don't. 'Honest'  ... I like that, and I thank you, Aviana... cheers... Gary....

It seems in this poem you have captured my life.  When young my puzzles were easier to solve, but got very complex as i grew older.  It took me a while, but I finally realized the truth of your last two lines.

I'd forgotten about this one. I'm pleased you got the message. This one was fun for me, yet it has great meaning for those who struggle to force things that just won't go. We do our best and the satisfaction comes with knowing that.
