Cozy Contemplations - 6. Chapter 6 Life is Short

An upbeat collection... looking ahead.

Cozy Contemplations

Chapter 6 Life is Short

Message for Me

This is a day for nurture

Though sun does hide away

Smile towards the future

And let your dreams hold sway

Not all sowed seeds will grow

And death will stalk the vine

But nature has its flow

As a grape becomes the wine

Life is Short

The scent of lilac

Mixed with apple blossom

Beckons

Through the open window

Speaking silent words

Come

Enjoy us while you can

Before our beauty is marred

And our days to awe

Are over

We’re here right now

As are you

Life is short

Watch

As fat bees suckle

On blooms of lavender

And white

Life is short

And we are but one small part

Of the wonders around you

Don’t waste

Our opportunity to connect

Life is short

We are here for your pleasure

To brighten your day

And soothe your soul

Life is short

Don’t hide away

You can shed tears outside too

Come

Life is short

We will give you comfort

And peace

Our scents will wrap around you

Like a mother’s hug

And we will share with you

Our time on this earth

For life is short

Promise

If you feel alone

Take my hand

If you hurt

I'll share your pain

If you cry

Use my shoulder

If darkness comes

Call to me

And if you fall

Take my hand

Yes, take my hand

If you need me

I'll be there

I promise

Shedding

Sometimes we get stuck

In messy mental muck

We forget what really matters

Because of all the splatters

The best way to manage hurt

Is to not get mired in dirt

Expel our mind’s detritus

So it has no chance to blight us

The world is our own oyster

There should be no need for cloister

Be thankful for our gifts

And minimize life’s rifts

There comes a time to cleanse

And be aware of how time wends

Embrace forever who we are

And keep wishing on that star

Thank you for reading. Comment if you like. I hope you see the beauty that is life... sometimes it gets hidden by the messes....

These are as lovely as the first time I read them (although I see you did add to one).  I think my favourite is Promise, because I've been fortunate enough to be touched by your concern and leaned on your shoulder more than once.  Your strength and heart got me through.

Life is Short makes me think of flowers and birds calling to you through an open window to come out and play with them, and enjoy the beauty of the day.  It makes me want to walk through a field of wild flowers and listen to the bees buzzing as they fly around on errands for their queen.

With Shedding the part that still sticks with me is The best way to manage hurt  Is to not get mired in dirt.  So hard to do, but so freeing if you can manage it

How could I not love these? They are as beautiful as the world you write about. Message for Me is very powerful, and I especially like the final line. Promise makes me envy the one to who you wrote it, for you are as constant as the spring. Indeed the glorious transient spring is on full display in Life is Short. You remind me that life, like the spring, is meant to be loved for its own sake while we have it. And I think I want to frame the first stanza of Shedding. Wonderful!

I was trying to think of what to say about these...the warmth and reassurance  and the companion sense that we need to be careful not to waste neither time nor appreciation for what we have; we are here for only a short time, and it's too brief to be dominated by recriminations for our own or others' actions.  Call me a displaced hippie, but I'll keep my rose-colored glasses nicely polished and think the best of my fellow men.

All this comes from the thought that hit me as I opened this comment: Skinnydragon reinforced the 'life is short' philosophy, and nothing we can do will bring us one more day or hour however much we might want it.  Do your best, for yourself and for others.

I need to wear those rose-colored glasses sometimes too... I don't like to look at ugliness... I prefer that faith in our fellow man. This collection is about savoring what is important, and chucking away what isn't. Easily said, not so easily done. Ah, skinny... I still shed tears at our loss of someone so special. You may have had to think about what to say, but you ended up hitting a number of nails on the head. Maybe it's our generation, but you and I see the world in similar fashion... thanks, sweet man... cheers... Gary... xoxoxoxo

Thanks, Aviana. For some reason it felt right to put these all together. There is introspection in each of them, with Life is Short also about being in the moment :) . Message is probably my favorite for it's form and words, but Shedding has the most effect on me. I love hearing your perceptions when you read my poetry... cheers, my friend... Gary....

These are all so lovely.  I felt enlivened and energetic just reading them.  I had no favorite, but did want to comment on the beautiful images of nature you created in Life Is Short.

Thanks, Terry. Great words to hear. Nature can often repair my soul when it gets tattered by life. I loved being brought back to this little collection. I needed them on this fine, sunny day.
