Songs of the Heart - 14. Chapter 14 - Epilogue

This chapter is dedicated to my Aunt Ivan who passed away this morning. She overcame a n abusive drunk husband (my grandma's brother) who committed suicide , Alzheimer's disease, and raised wonderful family. Your light nd wonderful spirit will be deeply missed in this world.

Ladies and gentlemen it’s my honor to introduce Mr. Brady & Nessay Jordan-Rodriguez!”

That was our cue to enter the room, our hands interlocked, my head resting on my cowboy’s shoulder. I don’t think life could get any better than marrying the man you love. Well except the little bit news I had to share with him, but that was for later on tonight. We were both dressed to the nines in our tuxedos. Our friends and family all around us. When we entered my eyes locked onto my mom’s, it took a lot of sweet talking and begging for her to forgive Brady. [It probably didn’t hurt when he made a huge donation in her name to several of her favorite charities. She was the only other person who knew my secret, and she had damn near crushed my ribs after I told her.

Next I found Ty and Jared holding hands and grinning like loons at us. They were almost at the stage of getting married themselves. Ty had told me he thought Jared was going to be popping the question any day now. Moving my eyes to Mitch I could see a deep sadness in his eyes. Odin had been recalled by his bosses and sent on a mission, something about children being kidnapped. That was a couple months ago, and none of us have heard a thing since. Multiple times we had gone to Odin’s house, only to find everything gone and the home locked up tighter than Fort Knox. I hoped that Mitch could find a solution to his heart ache, Brady had let me know they were starting to worry he was finding alcohol to be best solution.

Moving out onto the dance floor we got into position for our first dance as husbands Brady had let me pick out the song, he could care less what I chose as long as I was in his arms and ready to kiss him.

“Ladies and gentleman, now is the time for our couples first dance, here to perform a hit song “From the Ground Up” from a few years ago . . . Dan + Shay !!!!!!!!” The guys had their own guitars and started to play the opening chords.

My mouth fell open as I stared into Brady’s eyes, he just grinned. Not sure how he managed it but this made our day so much more special. I closed my eyes and leaned my head in snuggling into his chest as his arms wrapped around me and we began swaying side to side.

Grandma and grandpa painted a picture of sixty-five years

And one little house

More than a memory

More than saying I do

Kiss you goodnight's and I love you's

Me and you baby, walk in the footsteps

Build our own family

One day at a time

Ten little toes, a painted pink room

Our beautiful baby looks just like you

And we'll build this love from the ground up

Now 'til forever it's all of me, all of you

Just take my hand

And I'll be the man your dad hoped that I'd be

And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad

We'll give all that we have

And we'll build this love from the ground up

This life will go by

In the blink of an eye

But I wouldn't wanna spend it without you by my side

The cloud are gonna roll

The earth's gonna shake

But I'll be your shelter through the wind and the rain

And we'll build this love from the ground up

Now 'til forever it's all of me, all of you

Just take my hand

And I'll be the man your dad hoped that I'd be

And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad

We'll give all that we have

And we'll build this love from the ground up

Someday we'll wake up

With thousands of pictures

Sixty-five years in this little house

I won't trade for nothing, the life that we built

I'll kiss you goodnight and say I love you still

And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad

We'll give all that we have

And we'll build this love from the ground up

From the ground up

The song slowly came to a close as our guests, roughly eighty five family and friends, raised their glasses and tapped them with a piece of silverware calling for a kiss. I felt my cowboy take a step back, then his hand come to my chin and tilt my head back and lean down to plant a soft slow kiss on my lips. The crowd around us cheered and clapped as I let myself get fall deeper into the kiss. Finally Brady stepped away breaking it and moved over by the DJ and hugged and shook Dan and Shay’s hands. Bending down he picked up his own guitar and began to lightly play warming up as I moved back to the middle of the dance floor.

“Ladies and gentleman we now encourage the mother of Mr. Jordan-Rodriguez to come to the dance floor for the mother and son dance!”

My mom was such an amazing woman, who went out of the way to help people. I knew Brady had a surprise for the both of us, I wasn’t sure I could focus on it. My mom approached and I reached out and hugged smaller frame to mine. This five feet three inch dynamo was a huge support, and I would have been lost without her. I had just begun to break the hug when Brady decided to start to sing, I looked up to see Micah and Jared had joined him.

You taught me everything

Everything you've given me

I'll always keep it inside

You're the driving force in my life, yeah

There isn't anything

Or anyone that I could be

And it just wouldn't feel right

If I didn't have you by my side

You were there for me to love and care for me

When skies were gray

Whenever I was down

You were always there to comfort me

And no one else can be

What you have been to me you will always be

You will always be the girl

In my life for all times

Mama, Mama you know I love you

(You know I love you)

Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart

Your love is like tears from the stars, yes it is

Mama I just want you to know lovin' you is like food to my soul

Yes it is, yes it is, oh, yes it is, yes it is, yes it is oh

You're always there for me

Have always been around for me even when I was bad

You showed me right from my wrong

Yes you did

And you took up for me

When everyone was downin' me

You always did understand

You gave me strength to go on

There were so many times

Looking back when I was so afraid

And then you'd come to me and say to me

I can face anything

And no one else can do

What you have done for me

You'll always be, you will always be

The girl in my life, ooh oh

Mama, Mama you know I love you

(You know I love you, you know I love you)

Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart, (You are)

Your love is like tears from the stars

(Your love is like tears from the stars)

Mama I just want you to know (Mama I just want you to know)

Lovin' you is like food to my soul

Never gonna go a day without you

Fills me up just thinkin' about you

I'll never go a day without my mama

Mama, Mama you know I love you

Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart

Your love is like tears from the stars

(Your love is like tears from the stars)

Mama I just want you to know lovin' you is like food to my soul

Lovin' you is like food to my soul, oh yeah

You are the food to my soul, yes you are

By the end of the song my mom and I had tears streaming down both of our faces. It has been amazing performance from my man and friends. My mom and I separated and smiled at each other. It was now my turn to surprise my man, and I had a doozy. My mom moved off the floor as the DJ was getting ready to start up the songs for the crowd to dance to. I held up my hand wiggled a finger at Brady. He excused himself from some of the guests and came over to me grinning. I reached into my back pocket and pulled out a folded up piece of paper and handed it to Brady. He gave me a curious look before reading it. I watched his eyes get bigger and bigger, than he let out a huge yell that had everybody focus on us. He wrapped his arms around me and began to spin us around. Our guests began to give us curious looks. Finally putting me down Brady fell to his knees his head dropping forward and began to cry. People started to come in I just smiled and waved them off. Clearing my throat I turned and faced the crowd.
“We have an exciting announcement, in nine months time an adoption will be finalized. March of next we will be fathers to a beautiful little girl.”

It felt like the city of Heartsville erupted in cheers! I sank to my knees and rested my forehead against Brady’s as the crowd came swarming into us. I gently cupped his chin so we could lock eyes, and I saw he was sobbing, leaning down I give him a kiss and wipe the tears from his eyes.

Sometimes the past is the past, and sometimes the past is our future.

Great story and a nice solid ending.  However, it is also a partial set-up for the next story since Van Jordan appears to be on the loose an Brady and Nessay now have a baby girl on the way. What do you say, is there another 10-12 chapter mini-epic in that brain of yours? I'd love to see another saga.  Keep up the great writing and I'll keep on reading.

Condolences for your loss.  And thanks for a great ride during this story.  I like the way Nessay’s friends and Brady’s band mates have all paired up.  Loved the wedding and the new family member joining Brady and Nessay. Looking forward to book two. And dreading the return of Van Jordan in book 3.

I gave a pretty big hint in the epilogue who Van Jordan's next target is :)
