It Was A Rescue Day - 5. Bent But Not Broken

this is the last one

The loose organic floor covering in his cell made Bobby sneeze. His eyes were nearly swollen shut, but he couldn't tell if it was from the allergic reaction or the beating he got when he arrived.

His nose felt broken, or maybe it just hurt like the rest of his face. He wasn’t sure, but at least he could breathe through his mouth. Well, he could if he moved the gagging device they had shoved between his teeth and over his tongue when they had wrestled him into these clothes.

The gag didn’t so much force his mouth open or even closed, but his tongue down. He could bite on it or open his mouth further if he wanted, it just expanded or contracted, either way, his tongue stayed down and he was unable to speak. It made it hard to swallow, too, as he had to nearly suck the thing to swallow properly.

What a mess. He didn’t know where he was or where they had taken Puck. They had been passed off twice before ending here. The first time had been when the crew on the ship had turned them over to the buyer who hid his features. Money exchanged hands. It was a simple business arrangement. That alien had not spoken to the crew. But once they were away from the ship that rule did not apply to his captives.

Bobby was forced to change into a strange stretchy unitard looking thing. The suit had wrist and ankle cuffs that when activated would suddenly force his hands or feet together. They could also repel each other, forcing his limbs apart. But Bobby hated the collar the most. When activated, he couldn't speak. He was silenced. Bobby hated that the most.

That captor allowed Bobby to tend to Puck. He also didn't force Puck into any of the symbols of captivity. Bobby figured it was because Puck was so sick; which made him wonder why someone would pay for a sick slave. If only it was as simple as someone looking for slaves. Great rescue party he'd been for Puck.

Their hair coloring varied in hue from indigo to the lightest of blue. Most of them had alabaster skin, although some went a few tones darker, none looked really tanned. Their facial structure was very near human, showing some possible common ancestry.

Bobby worry became panic when they were traded to four large males who looked related to, but different from, the previous set. These had predominately purple skin. The police paperwork mentioned purple aliens. Puck's infection came from those purple people. Fear sent his mind racing in a dozen directions at once. What if they infected him? What would happen to Amberly? To Brianna and their baby? Panic gripped him and he lashed out.

They beat him.

The beatings continued at random intervals in the cell with a floor he was allergic to. They were particularly brutal when someone of rank, he assumed, would be in the cell watching. When they raped him, Bobby screamed. There was no sound.

Then it stopped.

Light and shadow filtered between Bobby’s swollen eyelids, but focusing on details was beyond his ability. He knew the general layout of his cell and that he lay in the furthest corner from the door. He knew he was alone. These were the important things.

He couldn’t breathe too deeply. Was it due to the seepage from his nose or the fact his face hurt? Didn't matter, but at least the sneezing stopped about the same time they started pummeling him. He was sure the two weren’t related, but the condition was not exclusive in his mind.

His body was one massive, throbbing ache, hurting in places it never should. Bobby’s limbs had been bent at awkward angles, his muscles stretched impossibly far, and his colon probed entirely too deep. Bobby couldn’t remember ever suffering like this when Amberly made love to him. He drew his knees up and wept. There was no sound.

He didn’t stop.

How long they left him alone in his cell he couldn't tell, but he knew he wouldn’t survive another rape or beating. When someone opened the door, he pulled himself into a ball, hoping to protect himself, groaning as he did. The effort sent pain lancing through his body. Death would have been a welcome, but he was determined to live, if only to save Puck.

Shouting – loud at first, but then soft murmurs crowded close. Gentle hands stroked him as the voice crooned. It sounded reassuring although he couldn’t understand a word. Fingers removed the gag, collar, and cuffs. He felt the material of his covering rip the rest of the way, or maybe it was cut. Either way it was off and he was rolled onto something softer.

He groaned again.

They were talking to him, around him, about him. He tried to make his mouth work, but it hurt. More shouts. He felt more than saw the tension around him. Had thy found Puck? He hoped so or else everything he suffered had been in vain. When he was able to move his head, several of the aliens had gone.

One of them stood in his line of sight.

It took Bobby a few moments to realize the alien was speaking to him and longer to comprehend he could almost understand him. He held what looked like a hypodermic needle in his hand. Whatever they were going to give him, he hoped it would hurt him, not that he would feel it anymore. Did they even know he was human?

“Who? You called?”

“Robert Atoll.” Bobby slurred the words. “Where’s Puck?”

“He rests.” The voice was soothing as the world went fuzzy.

The next time he woke could have sworn he heard Brianna’s voice demanding to be let in, or else. A smile finally crossed his face as he sank into oblivion.

Sooooooo... Bobby and puck were the two 'prisoners' that Rix had heard abt... And the whole ruse of his, to 'arrest' Amberly and brianna from the hotel was to get them there! huh! well done! :P

I love how strong bobby is... the way he thinks that he had to live to protect puck, even if he was in so much pain that he'd rather die. :) (leaving behind Amberly and Brianna)

But, didnt we hear at one point that one of the prisoners were dead? :o whoa! well.. PuCk cannot be dead, now, can he?

Grrrr.. Cant wait for the next one now! When it it coming, btw? the Antho?

LOL. You are very good at ending a story and yet leaving it so open for your next one to come. It's a great way to get readers to continue and read your work, a true boon to an author. I love how you give us answers and questions all at the same time, and I even have an in as your beta and still never quite know what you are going to have the characters doing. This is one of my fav's of the 'It Was A..." series.

Wow, so that is awful tricksy of you - So when Rix was told one of them was in bad shape - we thought it was Puck, but now we see it was Bobby - I have this sad feeling Bobby is the one they said died - now of course that might be a ruse too - show me the body eh?

But I feel reasonable sure it wasn't Puck because Rix would have known it. Me thinks the King had a dose of bad information. But now we have to wait ... and wait .... and wait until you decide to wrap this up. :P

I have to admit that when I read the first book in this series, I wasn't sure if I'd continue onto the other ones. I waited a few days and than finally just dived into It was a Holy Day, and all I can say is that I'm glad I did. I loved the pacing of the second story, and to be honest, I would have been content if the whole series had started with It Was a Holy Day.

That being said, That was how I felt when I started reading the series. Now that I've gotten to this latest chapter, I can really appreciate your writing style. The information given before, has really started coming together, and is quickly creating a larger picture, that I, as a reader, find increasingly entertaining.

I can't wait to see what happens to Puck, and his charming purple alien, or Bobby with his sweet Amberly and his no nonsense Brianna, and even Kismet and his Taloric. I almost want to say I can't wait for the next installment, but I can be patient. But I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for something new from you.

Thank you. I mean I just don't know what else to say. Heh. I can't wait to see what happens to Puck either, although I think things are going to get even more interesting before then.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the review. Happy Reading!

Okay so we knew they were in the cage and had been tortured. If I remember correctly we had been told that Puck had been killed. This shows he hadn't been, thank goodness. Wouldn't have wanted to see his "partner" go insane from Puck being killed or what Puck's family would do if he had been. You are tricky as hell but the time lines are what was throwing me. Great job as usual, Lugh. Can't wait till your next "Day".

giggles

sure of yourself are you? Herm, ok. Dances. I got some people saying Puck is alive. Some saying Puck is dead. And a couple bodies in the dungeon... well we know who is NOT dead... now don't we?

Keep reading. Keep writing. Love the reviews.

That was heart-wrenching. Something like that I expected to have happen to Bobby in the cell, but really I tried to avoid thinking about it while reading Holy Day. Crap. Well, it could have been worse. At least now he is in the hands of the good guys.

**Sad and happy, in more levels than one.**

Thank you for this story Lugh. I do  your Hanover-saga.
