Musings of a Messed Up Mind - 13. No Joy To The World

Christmas heartbreak

No Joy To The World

We decorate the Christmas tree
Coloured lights abound
Glass baubles we hang
Don’t forget the candy canes

You pull me close and smile
O’er head you hold mistletoe
And smiling - kiss me unfettered
We retire awaiting Christmas morn

I hear you sleep – as I lay
Afraid you will leave me
As new days dawn
Not enough for you any longer

Sadness creeps in like fog.
Though you reassure me
I cannot believe anyone
would want the wreck that is me

Christmas morn dawns sweetly
We love together but I am alone
Your heart is with another
I can see it in your eyes

A very sad poem Tim, sad thoughts.

Sadness is always amplified by the joyous feelings the season promises
Sadness, loneliness, isolation become too difficult to bear during this 'happy' time

Well described, Tim!

"No Joy" does a good description of how I usually feel around the holidays. Considering I never particularly enjoyed poetry in literature classes or did well with it in writing classes, I always enjoy yours.

Poignant, and often to true that joy is missing for so many especially during the holidays.
But there is an underlying fear in these words of not being good enough to be wanted, loved, cherished ... doubts of self-worth. The poem is well-written but I do not like those words coming from you.

There is happiness in this poem but it is tempered by sadness and doubt. But is the doubt the real truth or is it a product of the early morning hours when it is quiet and there is time to think too much?

I'm inclined to believe it is the latter and not the former. Sometimes good things seem too impossible, so we doubt them...it's hard to take that leap of faith and give trust a chance. Be brave and the rewards will be great. :)

Such a beautiful poem. Evocative. It leads us beautifully, until the last two lines leaves us bereft. The fear and insecurity of it is palpable. Musings is your reality, so this poem frightens me. Once again you show the ability to trigger all kinds of emotions. I hope you are okay, my friend. Gary... I'm here if you need me... xoxo

Tim - sad echoes of melancholy airs haunt my brain as I read this. How very sad to feel unworthy, unlovable. It only serves to create and widen the distance between yourself and the person you love, and the feelings just happen - they're so hard to put away. I know about that. This poem make me remember my own bitter moments of self-exile. Beautifully written. Thank you.

It's a very despondent poem, Tim. I hope it's another example from your imagination, as opposed to a reflection of your personal life.
It's beautifully constructed - as all your verse seems to be - and also emotionally touching. I always love it when you post a new poem! Thank you

Hey dugh.. stuff happens, sometimes I slip back into old feelings, old ways, I shouldn't be there for long though. It's why I write poetry ... to get those feelings out.
