Musings of a Messed Up Mind - 28. Nightmares

gone for months .. brought back in a flash ... but i refuse ...

Nightmares can happen anytime, even when you’re awake

He’s always there in my head, like a ghost in the machine

I wake up in a cold, cold sweat, sit on the side and shake

Until from behind you whisper: you shouldn’t be awake

 

I crawl in to your arms then, where I feel I’m safe

You hold me close and tell me it’ll be okay

But they hold me hostage, memories hurt and chafe

You kiss me until I quiet and tell me that I’m safe

 

I can let this overwhelm me, so it stops today

Nothing good will come of letting it eat at me

He can come a-calling but I’ll tell him to go away

I’ve been so much better; the last day again, is today

I’m proud of your resolve to break the hold past events have on you. You deserve better than to be saddled with that. I know it, Mike knows it, and so does everyone else who knows and loves you.

thanks Reader .. wasn't a good night even with the sleeping pill.. it had been such a good week.. but i am gonna try.. Michael and i will go out this afternoon for a bit .. and i have stuff to do xoxo

Your last line is immensely telling and inspiring: the last day again, is today. 

 

There are times when I have wrestled hurts and memories and bad choices I have made. Your words will bring me strength when that happens. 

 

But I am also struck by the safety, trust and comfort you recognize in the arms that hold, and the heart that loves.

i've pushed these memories away a lot of times, Parker .. i can do it again

Without Michael though, i'm not so sure i could. He is my strength when i have none... like Reader said.. He is my boulder.

yep. those nightmares are relentless. they grab you and throw you into a dark pit, but i'm happy, grateful even, that Mike is there to break your fall and catch you. the world is a better place because you are in it.

I'm glad you have Mike to anchor you and provide the safety you need when the nightmares hit.  You not letting them win shows that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for.  Hugz  :hug:

I waited to comment. Thinking of what to say. Sometimes it’s not what’s said, but done. Michael Sir has the arms and words to blanket you. The security I know so well. However; I have virtual hugs and a good ear. I wish you a peaceful and contented sleep tonight, and going beyond. xoxo

the nightmares and flashbacks had been gone for so long.... but i hope i've stuffed them back away

How many years of this now Wolfie? Thirteen? It's tiresome ... but i've learned a few tricks along the way... thank you.. today i managed to get back onto my feet xoxo

it didnt start well ... but you and your birthday and you brilliant dance party.. helped so much .. and yes.. if we were together i think we'd have had a kumbaya moment... :)  xoxo

I haven't had to deal with them as long as you, but I agree, they are tiresome in so many ways.  Hopefully someday we both stop having them.

Nightmares are bad whatever the cause. This poem speaks to me of Hope and Love and Safety. So much said in so few words.
