timmy's poetry - 24. Gone

Sometimes we have to say goodbye

Gone

Nothing lasts forever, time carries us forward and away

Those heady days of love and friendship fall behind us

And I’m left wondering if there is any more we’ll ever say

Part of me is sorry, but there’s so many things that carry blame

Hot words spoken until the river dried, and only the silt remains

We want things as they were, but there’s no way it can be the same

Remember the past with fondness in a soft and loving glow

Because it’s surely been swept away, leaving the beach pristine

Our footprints of togetherness washed away by time’s flow

Thanks for reading ...

tim, having stood on that beach more than once, your words transport me back there. in doing so i find the heart wrenching grief has been replaced with lingering sadness for the loss and a smile for the fond memories. thank you

Your thoughts are wonderfully expressed in these words.

As always, nicely done, tim. :)

The metaphor of dried up rivers and arid watercourses and beaches erased in the tides all reinforce the notions of change and emptiness. I can see the beach, and the sere, dry river. Melancholy and beautiful.

Beautiful metaphors. Wonderful as usual.

your words touch deep, as always. Such farewells are never easy, but remembering the positive moments with fondness helps ease the transition a little. Still, saying goodbye is one of the hardest acts in life. your references to silt and sand and the tide washing away shared footprints really brings the sentiment home on an organic level. Beautifully done, tim.  Cheers - Mac

tim--

Such sad, sweet words of goodbye

I understand the longing of what was, before whatever happened to blight it.

You do have a way with words.  Thank you, again, for sharing your talent with us!

The beach metaphor here is really great. Things get washed away, like impressions in the sand, but maybe that's for the best. The sea absolves all things in equanimity.

There's a sense of achieving peace here.

Great poem!

Thank you AC .. it's sad thing.. thanks for reading it xo

Thank you Mac. As you say, Goodbyes are difficulty. It's too bad sometimes that memories aren't so easily washed away.. but some you want to hold onto.  It felt good to write this, to say goodbye after recent events. Part me has much regret.
