tim's Bits and Pieces - 10. Tommy's Poems

poems written for a story character: Tommy Crouch

1. our garden

snapdragons nip and tiger lilies growl

while roses grow thorns to protect

poppies blow and bow in the languor

invited by the torridness of summer

insects float by or buzz with determination

in our garden overgrown with neglect

but Mother does not want or need

the scratchings of human ingenuity

2. on Love

So many poems are written about love

Why?

Because we don’t understand

To love you must have faith

For it is not a tangible thing

We only know that it feels good

Love is a drug that comes with no price

Is that right though?

Cuz when it ends it sure ain’t free

3. for Tarek:

You saved me and gave me life

Resurrected this broken man

I love you for all you’ve given

And the life that you’ve chosen to share

                          _____

Thanks for reading. These will be included in a future story which is currently under construction.

Excellent tim! Your second poem on love nearly knocked me out of my chair. Those last three lines are powerfully true.

It's an interesting (and perhapts not consciously planned?) approach to a story and I wish you that everything will come together nicely.

I'm not very good with flowers but of course I looked up the words that I didn't know; I'm not very good at thinking in images either. Does it make sense when I say that you create emotional landscapes? All the best xo

Love all of them, but I’m lingering on the first because you wrote about tiger lilies, which are right up there on my list of faves.

Nicely done, rim. :)

PS: Didn’t know what snapdragons looked like, so I looked them. Gorgeous, they are.

our Garden filled me with smiles and made me happy. on Love spoke to me we clarity and truth. Those last lines were awesome. for Tarek evokes images of selfless love, reminding me of the poem preceding it, and of the rebirth one finds in a garden. Taken together, these are a terrific trio.

thanks Parker ... hopefully i can finish the story ...

My tiger lilies are in bloom at the moment. When I was a child we would carefully pick the individual blossoms from snap dragons to put one our fingers as puppets. You gave me back some of my memories. Thank you.

my mum grew tigers and all sorts of other lillies, her garden was a wild place but beautiful.  thanks dugh xo
