Moggy's Mutterings - 22. Prisons

1.

The shadows in your eyes,
Talk of pain, hurt, betrayal.
Shadows haunt your movement.
Mouth smiles, never reaching your eyes.
So many fooled.
You sing.
You laugh.
No one looks at the bars covering your heart.
Are they there to keep you in? Or others out.
2.
I used keep my thoughts, feelings and dreams imprisoned.
If I let them out, people might not like me anymore,
and me is all I have.
Releasing the voice to what’s inside me,
may lose me some people in my life,
but those who matter,
will accept all of me, bars included.

You've done it again. I know we're not on the same level when it comes to poetry, but damn every time I read your words they strike me in the heart! 'and me is all I have.'  So simple, but so powerful.

Sometimes to make our way out of the darkness, we have to jump head first into it, swim around in it, but don't drown in it. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's how this poem makes me feel.

A powerful set of poems. The second one really resonates with - self-editing in case someone likes me less for being honest and open.

thanks. you make perfect sense, although i tend to go feet  1st(since birth:gikkle:) i decide awhile ago when i heard a line in a song about living lies. i didn't live a lie, more like i lived in boxes, and no one knew all my boxes. i stopped. that was eye-opening for sure
