Moggy's Mutterings - 7. Fallout

I am the fallout in a war I was not in.
I wandered by, hoping to find a friend or two.
You all opened the door and bid me “come in”.
We laughed, we supported each other.
You let me be me. I found a home.
But, I had no clue of what was to come.
In a war between you and he,
sides were chosen, but not by me.
Harsh words, strong emotions were flung.
People I loved picked sides.
I was not there for the opening salvo,
nor in the middle when the battlefield was hot.
I wandered by, towards the end.
When he and you walked away, taking your sides.
Seeing the carnage, and no one to explain,
I stood there, confused, all my friends gone,
because I wouldn’t choose, leaving me.
I am the fallout in a war I was not in.

Divorce was the inspiration

Breakups are always hard on everyone, and being asked to choose sides doesn't make things easier.

I felt a child watching the disintegration of marriage long before I got to your chapter end note confirming it. I think you did a great job in placing the reader in the little one's position, and talk about what a lot of kids feel: guilt. Even though it's not their fault.

really well done

Didn't want put a like, as there are no things to like in that feeling. But wouldn't put a sad reaction, afraid you thought I didn't like your writings. So my only comment is how I like the way you beautifully described such sad feelings.
