Spice Rack - 4. Discovery

Perhaps a new flavor? If I made mistakes, they are mine, and nobody else's.

Your face

writes a sad tale

of bitter disappointments

etched around your mouth and nose in

small type;

and yet

your eyes, alive with merriment,

regale me with stories

of pure delight

to come.

AC Benus and Asamvav111 were very helpful in making this collection come to fruition. They have my deep thanks. You are most welcome to leave a comment, if you like.

Bittersweet is a good flavor combination.  The bitter makes us appreciate the sweetness even more.  Yet another flavorful offering.  Nice job :)

You are so right: bitter offsets the sweet, forms it into something much more interesting to the taste. Thanks again for reading this.

The balance of bitter and sweet. Disappointment is the worst!

But maybe this time will be different. Or so the eyes have it. Thanks for reading this and for responding!

A life well lived is flavored by many things ... bitter ... sweet ... salty and sour. It is the proportions that provide the ultimate flavor.

That is beautifully put. You could set that thought to a poem, Dugh. Thanks for reading this, and responding to it.

Much like a spice that's bitter on its own, yet when added, enhances or awakens the flavour in a dish!

Another lovely offering Parker...

Thank you very much for the encouragement and kindness of reading and commenting on this. Your idea is quite right; certain flavors require a blending with others to be both rich and palatable.

The indomitable human spirit. It rises from defeat and disappointment again and again... it's why we rule the earth :) . Seriously, I see a lot of what you describe in so many, especially in our own communities... God bless those who keep trying... you made me think of my own Watcher series (shameless plug)... but really, the great loss, the grief and the pain, yet there is life in those eyes and they are ready to live and share themselves again... I love ... etched... in small type... such an apt and wonderful description... you tell a story in measured and meager words... well done, my friend... cheers... Gary....

Thank you, Gary. Your words mean a lot to me. Here indeed is the intense, bittersweet flavour of trying again, of risking despite one's fears. And of accepting that from another.

That constant struggle between hope and disappointment. The rewards are great for those who persevere and succeed. Some aren't so lucky...

No,  not everyone is lucky. But perhaps those in this poem are about to see their fortunes change. Thank you so much for reading and commenting on this.
